IT'S SUMMER CAMPING TIME! Ahem.

Fandom! It's summertime, break week is just around the corner, and the island's on summer vacation! What better time to have our yearly camping trip?

This time around, the island's happy to facilitate!

And that should fill you with dread.

On Saturday, June 25th the island will make contact with a passing planetoid. This tiny, tiny space rock has a small atmosphere generator buried in its nethers, which has allowed it to form green grass, azure water, and a whole broad range of bubblehuts scaling up the side of the small mountain that runs up from its peak - settling behind the preserve - down into the waters that'll stretch out beyond Fandom's dock.

So... Bubblehut Camping?

Indeed!

...How is this going to work?

Each bubblehut is comfortable and temperature-controlled due to the planetoid's just-the-right-side-of-summer warm rock. Each bubblehut has a small set of stairs neatly hewn into the rock leading up to it; everyone will be placed in groups of three bubblehuts with their own covelike mini-clearing to share. It houses two (2) students a piece. Each student will be given a mattress and a privacy curtain they can use to shield themselves from their roommate, though probably not the world. The planetoid has no day-night cycle to speak of, so while you are in your bubblehut, you will have 24/7, 360 degree views of THE UNIVERSE AT LARGE!

If this makes you uncomfortable, we suggest sheets - or choosing to pick one of the few underwater bubblehuts, safely ensconced in the small lake of the planetoid. The underwater huts are accessible via a small tunnel leading into the rock from the edge of the old camping grounds, and exist in larger bubbles to block out the water. The tunnels were built by aliens now long-gone, so they, too, are comfy and temperature-conditioned. There are flashy lights. It's fun.

Electricity is available. The aliens built a robust system in the rock, and the island has been so kind as to provide each outlet with a region-appropriate plug.

Restroom facilities are in a large cave in the center of the rock and provide space for all genders to indulge their sanitary needs in peace and privacy.

Campers will move in on the 25th of June and move back out on the 10th of July. They will find a small, cheery note that says 'WELCOME CAMPERS' in alien scribble on the front of their bubblehut entrances. No one knows why, though here and there, the remains of an alien lanyard can be found.

And finally, to give a very sketchy layout of what our set-up will look like for a random bubblehut trio:

So about sex...

Well, uh. If you want to do that kind of thing, we advise finding a way to hang up many, many sheets.

Or you could abscond to any of our usual camping privacy locations. Heh. 'Privacy':

  • The dorms (but please don't make a habit of going back there every night)
  • The preserve (if you don't mind teal deer watching)
  • The woods (if you don't mind the bugs watching)
  • The abandoned shack (created specifically for things that require privacy)
  • Serenity Cove and the beach (yay for sand in uncomfortable places)

Finally, for other potentially triggery issues, please make sure to cut and warn appropriately, and remember that at least two other sets of students can see what you're doing in your bubblehut, unless you block off their line of view.

And now! For the copypasta bits!

General Campground Facilities

The campground is located in the Preserve and is generally the same in set-up as in years past. It has a kitchen and dining hall, a small outdoor gymnasium, and a main campfire. There are plenty of secluded places for the secretive and romantic types.

The main campfire is free for everyone to enjoy whenever, provided it's not already being used for something else. The school and town are a short hike away (the Preserve is bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside). There is an abandoned shack a short walk away that's great for secret meetings for couples and the shoreline of the island isn't too far away either. There are clearings in the Preserve as well that can be modded as needed.

The gym area is available on site and should be used like the school gym. The kitchen and dining hall are readily available for use as well. The storage locker is for all sporting/workshop/other equipment that you might need.

What about the dorms/school/town?

When it comes to the dorms, it's fine to openly use the first floor and basement facilities as there's hope everyone does laundry at some point. However, the IC administration would be unhappy to hear of students going back to sleep (or do Other Things You Probably Don't Want To Be Public About Anyway) in their rooms on a regular basis, so try to be ICly sneaky about that type of thing. If you want your character to get in trouble for spending too much time in the dorms, OOCly let one of the admins know, and we'll set you up with an appropriate IC principal/VP/dean/security type.

The Danger Shop will still be accessible for workshops and the library will be open at the discretion of the librarian.

Town, of course, is business as usual.

What do I post where?

  • Workshops, regardless of the location, should be posted in [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh.

  • Campfire posts (whether the main campfire or a tent-campfire), any other use of the campground, bubblehut communal areas, Preserve, or public areas on school grounds should go in [livejournal.com profile] fandomhighdorms.

  • Anything set inside a bubblehut should go in the personal journal of one of the bubblehuttees, and those who don't live there should ICly be asking before entering.

Sign-Ups: How Do They Work?

Here's how they work: you have the option of being randomly assigned to a bubblehut on your own or you can sign up with a partner (someone you'd like to share a bubblehut with). Please also indicate if you want an underwater or a space bubblehut. We will then assign bubblehuts to people, and determine which bubblehut trio they'll be a part of. (Not dirty.)

Using the OCD thread below, sign up in pairs with one person commenting to the main thread and the other person commenting collapsey-style beneath the first person to verify that they do want to be partnered up. Think of it like signing into classes, only in sets of two.

Graduates will be put next door to other graduates on their own bubblehut level. It's only fair.

Bubblehut Sign-Up FAQ

What if my character ends up in a bubblehut with someone they don't like?

Have fun with it. Conflict is just as much fun to play with as everyone getting along. If it's real problem ICly, then remember it's only for two weeks! If there are OOC issues, though, talk to us and we'll see what we can work out.

Can we purposefully sign up a pair who don't like each other, and blame a "paperwork mixup"?

Absolutely, as long as you both agree to it.

Are these IC pairs or OOC pairs?

These are IC pairs that will have handwavily been turned in at the office unless you're planning on a paperwork mix-up.

Do I have to pair up with my dorm roommate?

Nope!

All of my character's friends have graduated/left/been eaten by drop-bears or I'm new so I don't have a partner for them or I don't want to be with anyone in particular. What do I do?

Nothing! If you don't sign up here, we will assign you to a bubblehut anyway. Everyone living in the dorms has to go to the bubblehuts. This sign-up post is really to give people the opportunity to cling to someone else if they want to rather than relying on the Random Number Generator gods.

What if my character's away and I'm coming back in the middle of break week?

Feel free to still sign-up! Your character will find a note instructing them to go to their hut waiting for them in their room when they return.

And what if my character's leaving in break week?

Also fine! Feel free to sign-up. Just make sure we're aware your character is leaving, so we can try to avoid leaving someone without a roommate.

Sign-ups will close at 11:59 pm Pacific time on Tuesday, June 21st.
