SUMMER (SECOND SESSION) 2019 WORKSHOP SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Second Session Summer 2019 Workshops! These sign-ups are for ALL students (but not graduated seniors, unless they're TAs.)!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. (Not you, recent grads.) Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve.

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern onFriday, June 28th and are IG knowledge by that weekend.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Games! You can't have them without competition. Fierce, fierce competition! In this class you will play a variety of games against your classmates for bragging rights, and possibly to learn sportsmanship. Games include board and sports, along with anything else we can come up with.

We're doing another round of these because we still haven't gotten to Risk or Sorry and that's a crime in some dimensions.


Note: no actual throats should be cut in this class. Because insurance and school boards.

You might have noticed that things have been a little... random, this summer. This class is going to aim to respond to that on a week-by-week basis, addressing whatever needs we might have in the moment and students' individual strengths in order to hopefully make the week go as smoothly as possible. Odds are good that we'll cover at least some basic first-aid or self-defense. Weeks where there are no dire, pressing needs might have a recreational day instead. We're playing this one by ear, folks.

MON: Period 3: Lecter: International Cuisine and Grocery Run

Since the island seems to have taken it upon herself to keep us guessing, we're going to spend class time using portals to go across worlds and eat good food and bring back supplies for as many as we can. We'll be visiting excellent restaurants and grocery stores in countries across Earth and possibly other places (suggestions welcome).

TUESDAY

TUES: Period 1: Blackstone & Diaz: Weapons 101

The world of weaponry is vast and fun and exciting, and, sometimes, it can be a little overwhelming to know just where to begin! But this course is here to help! This very introductory class will spend each week learning about a different type of weapon - what makes them unique, how they came to be, what they can be used for, and how to actually use them - all from the knowledge and perspective of an expert at making them and an expert at using them.

TUES: Period 2: Stark & Rogers: Wilderness Adventures (Now With More Indoor Things)

Have you ever wanted to know how to find your way through the woods without a compass? Tell poison ivy from...not poison ivy? Eat beans over a campfire and tell dirty jokes Participate in wholesome outdoor activities? Steve and Tony are...probably not the people who should be teaching you this, but here we are! We're also spending way more time than we'd planned in the Danger Shop, so that's probably only a good thing.

TUES: Period 3: Aphra: 2 Plan 2 Fire

THUR: Period 1: Smith: Retro Recipes: This Sh*t is Bananas

Ahhh, the mighty banana. Sweet, exotic, delicious, good source of potassium...and versatile! Especially, apparently, if you're a cook in the '60s and '70s, where one could apparently find this infamous yellow fruit in a variety of truly unexpected places...or simply used in unexpected ways. So come embark on a truly head-scratching journey this summer through a variety of ACTUAL LEGIT RECIPES THAT PEOPLE MADE AND ATE...all of them featuring our good friend, the BANANA!

THUR: Period 2: Wiggin: Even More Practical Philosophy

At its heart, philosophy isn't about Plato, Nietzsche, or Hegel. It's about thinking about the greater frameworks of our worlds and our lives. Practical Philosophy strives to unite personal experiences with greater thought. Class participation not optional: discussion, challenge and argument are what make us think. And thinking's what we're about.

Compete in dumb, stupid, over-the-top challenges based on a real live actual TV show, just like last session, only this time, it's Students vs. Teachers. Because how many other chances are you going to get to hit your teachers with a giant foam Q-Tip or run them over with a giant metal cage ball, anyway?

But then again, how many other chances are THEY gonna get to do the same to you?

FRI: Period 2: Constantine: Gods & Monsters: Divine Trickery

Anansi, Hermes, Loki, Set... in Fandom, you might meet any one of them. Or any one of any versions of them. Sometimes all at the same time. Because this fucking island.

FRI: Period 3: Carlysle & Wilson: Recreational and Alternative Misuses of Gadgets: Electric Boogaloo

How to do simple things, but more complicated and pointless! It's like life hacks, but they don't work and you'll probably break everything involved!

COMMUNITY CENTER CLASS

This class is offered for all characters--townies, teachers, and students--to take. Because it's more casual, it's not essential to sign up for it here to attend, but it's nice to give the players an idea of participation levels.

THURS: Octavian: Modern Earth Entertainment

Another evening a week when we'll be watching movies from Earth, plus maybe branching out into television or other such things.

NPC Classes

Nerds.

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
