Random Event: Sunday, September 5: Fandom's Birthday!
As you may have noticed from the calendar, the game's anniversary is coming up on September 5, and it's a big one: our Sweet 16.
We will now pause and reflect on the passage of time.
*Ever the Same plays*
Okay! Naturally, we can't let something so monumental go by in a normal way and so the island will be having a Super Sweet 16 Party!
Yes, like the MTV show from the early 2000s.
Um. I didn't watch that show OR I refuse to admit I have. What does a Super Sweet 16 Party entail?
We're so glad you asked! A Super Sweet 16 Party involves a completely over-the-top themed party, an amazing outfit (or just giant: one girl got a dress so huge she had to stand on a ten-foot-tall mechanical platform to wear it), an incredible guest star (think Justin Timberlake or Pharrell Williams), and, of course being gifted THE CAR, which, unlike my own memories, is never a used Saturn. Ninety percent of the episodes involved some sort of entitled hissyfit over the car being not entirely correct, despite being a Porsche. Weirdly, none of these young people were catapulted into the sun.
Your Very Special Day could also include a hot air balloon ride, arriving to your party in a carriage or helicopter, or being accompanied by a dozen shirtless cowboys.
The island will be providing a dance, an outfit, and a car-type vehicle for each resident. Well, you have to share the dance, but everything else is individual.
....right. So what's the catch?
If you have a student: In the spirit of the game when we first began, this event will center the students. This will be a Soap Opera Weekend/gremlin-bite type event for them: each will wake up convinced that it is Their Special Day. They can wax poetic to a camera that isn't there about their themed party that evening, the kind of car/hoverbike/space ship (depending on their canon) they are getting, the stars they have invited, how much better than Alexis' party this will be, etc.
It doesn't matter what their actual age is: on September 5th, every student believes they are turning 16. They will then project their delusions onto the actual gifts the island has provided: a generic dance being played by the Caritas Zombies, a regular party outfit in their closet, and a blinged-up personalized golf cart that is great for zipping around the school lawn but not super practical for all of the steps.
If you have an adult (ie: someone not taking classes at the school this semester): You wake up entirely normal! The island has also provided party clothes for you: an outfit that would fit you when you were 16 years old, in the trend of the era when you were a teenager. You have also been provided a car waiting for you in the causeway parking lot: a sensible Honda Accord for each of you!
What Cait and Sidon will do with sensible Honda Accords is a problem for another day. The sensible cars AND the slightly less sensible golf carts will stick around after the event is over. Questions, comments, wailing and gnashing of teeth about how we've been playing this for SIXTEEN YEARS?! Comment away.
