Upcoming fluff plot -- followed by an optional drama plot!
Trees are budding! Flowers are flowering! The air is warming — and then cooling rapidly — and then kinda warming again? And then maybe cooling again. And maybe you're getting snow? AND THEN IT MIGHT BE SUMMER FOR A DAY! And then it's a reasonable temperature again! Which can only mean one thing:
Springtime has come to the Mid-Atlantic!
And to celebrate the coming of spring, this year Fandom is going to host itself a FLEA MARKET!
That's right, on Saturday, March 25, the abandoned warehouse district will be hosting a Spring Flea Market, where any and all Fandom residents, be they teachers, students, or townies, are welcome to sign up for a booth or table and offer their wares up to their friends and neighbors at reasonable (or deeply unreasonable) prices!
Have a bunch of junk lying around you want to get rid of? Sign up for a booth! Been feeling crafty and running out of room to stash more yarn because your shelves are full of fully knitted goods now? Sign up for a table! Feeling nostalgic for homecoming and wish you could get in on that sweet, sweet kissing booth action? Literally no one will stop you from selling your lips at your own spot at the Fandom Flea!
The market is open to all Fandom residents or businesses, so if you don't think your character would sign up but maybe you could see them getting roped into sitting behind the table because their store did and It's Their Job, so long as you've worked it out with the business owners/other employees, go for it! This will work much like other street fair or carnival events we've hosted in the past, like Homecoming or Pride. Sign your folks up below by next Thursday, March 23 to be included in the OCD of the post, which will go up probably sometime late Friday, March 24, just so those of you in early timezones can jump into things while I sleep in Saturday morning. ;)
But wait, you ask. The subject line mentioned OPTIONAL DRAMA. What is it? WELL.
On Saturday evening, after the flea market is over — with plenty of time for those who don't wish to participate in the drama to have cleared out and be snug at home or off doing Something Else with their time — there will be an incident at the warehouse where the flea market took place. An electrical short, a frayed wire. The kind of thing that simply happens when a building has been fallow for too long. A spark catches. Ignites.
Catches fire.
It's no one's fault. Not the town's, not the folks who've occasionally made use of the abandoned warehouses. Not the gremlins or the raccoons or anyone else who may have wandered through. Certainly not the flea market's. But it is serious. The local firefighters will be called in, and they'll keep the fire from spreading far, but they won't be able to save the building. A section of the abandoned warehouse district will burn down and need to be removed. Rebuilt into something new.
But before all that happens. . . . Well, there was an event there earlier that day. Who's to say there won't be some people who might still be hanging around for some reason or another? People that the firefighters might need to go rescue?
As stated above: PARTICIPATION IN THE FIRE PLOT IS ENTIRELY OPTIONAL. You do not have to be in the fire plot if you are in the flea market. You do not have to be in the flea market to be in the fire plot! The two plots will not even happen in the same post, so that those who would like to avoid the fire plot have as easy a time doing so as possible. The flea market is in part to give those who would like to have their character in the fire plot but would have difficulty finding reason to have their character in the abandoned warehouse district an excuse to be there. It's also to have a fun flea market plot.
If you would like to be involved in the fire plot, please sign up below, and give us an idea of if you'd like your character to be injured and if so, how much. This isn't binding, it's mostly for headcount purposes. But it's nice to give our firefighters and clinic folks an idea of what we'll be working with!
Interested in either? Both? Sign up below!

I mean . . . I won't bring them. But you do you.

Re: FLEA MARKET! - Questions? Comments?
That . . . would in fact be adorable. And they'd occasionally move around apparently on their own, as though actual fleas were buying them and making deals. . . .

Alternately, anybody want to get rescued by a Sith dramatically stopping falling, on-fire debris? Or by a Spider-person swinging them out of there?

Character name:
Do you thing you'll need clinic treatment?

Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you thing you'll need clinic treatment? Sure, why not? A nasty burn or two.
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: I figure Nell will be staying later to help tidy up - as you do - and will certainly try and help make sure everyone's out, but sadly, gets trapped herself. That's as far as I've gotten.
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you thing you'll need clinic treatment? Connor will need to go due to smoke inhalation at the very least, maybe more if he ended up trapped because he got pinned down or something. A sprain or something that would put his arm in a sling or have him off his feet for a short time.
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: Connor will be staying behind after the market finishes cleaning up and just hanging out with Cutter. I figure he'll get trapped somehow and by the time he's rescued, he's been in the smoke for a bit. If he had something fall and pin him down he might have a minor foot or leg injury, nothing too bad, but enough to need it checked and dealt with.
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you thing you'll need clinic treatment? Cutter will need treatment for smoke inhalation for staying in the building for a prolonged period of time. Also he will have some minor burns from trying to help free Connor
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: Cutter will be staying behind to help Connor pack up and will be trying to get Connor out when he initially gets trapped but realise that Connor’s stuck and he will need to get help, so he will then leave Connor to find someone to rescue him
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Clinic treatment? Nah. Minor cuts and scrapes, maybe.
Details: Vi will be rescuing her because why not poke at everyone's issues?
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you think you'll need clinic treatment? Yes. Burns and bandages on her hands, because screw your potential drama, I'm just using this as an excuse to bring this icon back into rotation.
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: Nah, no rescuing, just a really dumb moment of grabbing probably a hot weapon or something.
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you thing you'll need clinic treatment? Yeah, for some burns and a twisted ankle
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: Dumbass tries to protect Ignis from falling debris and ends up having to be the one needing rescued instead, but he's got his fellow chocobros for that.
[[ note: mine for these are definitely tentative and 100% dependent on how much work hates me this weekend ]]
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you think you'll need clinic treatment? No, she'll be fine. Totally, completely fine. Just great thanks.
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: Vi will be rescuing Steph and totally fine and not hitting on that untreated PTSD, at all.
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you think you'll need clinic treatment? Possibly, but he'll be stubborn about it.
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: If anybody wants to carry a way-too-skinny guy heroically out of the fire, that'd be awesome!
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you thing you'll need clinic treatment? Yes, some burns on her hands and possibly legs, depending if her dress catches
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: Listen, sometimes a woman needs to
rescue her zombiesprotect her merchandise, okay?Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Do you think you'll need clinic treatment?: Probably just some first aid/oxygen and he can get yelled at by a firefighter afterwards!
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: not reeeeeally
Re: FIRE! - Sign ups!
Character name: Travis Montgomery
Do you thing you'll need clinic treatment? Hell yeah he will! Who wants to bust out some fictionalized concussion protocol?
Any details you've worked out already about any rescuing/clinic treatment: Yeah, plenty of folks have already jumped on the "smoke inhalation" bandwagon, so I'mma go with "mild to moderate concussion" I think. Just for spice. ;D

(An attempt to google "tiny flea firefighter" resulted an immediate ditching of the word "flea" by google and handing over babies in fire gear. Google is a coward.)
