Staying logged in under both names?

I've just mentioned, in comments to another thread, that I can leave this journal logged in using Firefox, and [livejournal.com profile] dougs logged in using Internet Explorer, and I don't have all that tedious logging in and logging out all the time.

Other people may find this technique useful.

The only trouble is that when I click on a link in a comment notification email (things like "see all comments on this entry") it insists on opening up in the default browser (if I open it in non-browser email client) or in the browser I'm using to read email -- this might be the one logged into the "wrong" account. But I can drag links from one browser into the other one, and they open just fine.

It would probably work just as well if I installed other browsers for third or subsequent accounts.

Ack, I didn't know you could do that.

That's really, really useful.

Yeah. I've got five of the more active ones open right now. It really makes my life easier not to have to go logging madly in and out when I want to check things.

Damn! I can't get that to work in Firefox... my most recent login overrides every window.

How are you getting that to work again?

I haven't had any success using firefox for that. IE is the only browser that works for me and you have to make sure you open a new browswer and not using the drop down file->new->window from an already open IE browser.

*sigh* but I'm addicted to tabbed browsing unfortunately... I've installed Opera to try to keep both open, but I'd love to have my FF for both. :-/

Yeah, that's the same thing I'm doing. I tried using IE as a second browser, but that got old REAL fast.

I don't have firefox on this laptop, but when my roommate and I were sharing hers, I'd have to open the program once for each login. Trying to do it any other way doesn't work.

Please note, she may have fiddled with her settings. She's not home so I can't check.

It doesn't work for me, but it's definitely worth a little fiddling to see if I can do it... ;)
