More Fandom Radio

Sorry. Barbossa-mun is now awake and ready to take your comments, complaints, suggestions and everything else.

Fandom Radio really does walk a strange line between IC and OOC. Currently, when we pull conversations for the daily recaps, we pull threads that are not marked private, OOC, or open to only a few eyes (or ones that are open to everyone but Ash, or Lee, just to think of a few examples in the last couple of days). We could restrict our recaps to things posted in the major communities, ignoring the conversations and plots that are running wild in individual journals, or take the whole thing OOC and report on everything that's happening for players to know and characters to have no idea about, like Logan's player suggested.

I had always thought of the broadcasts as being IC, with the links being for the general information of the players behind the characters, and I know other players have been treating it with varying degrees of IC and OOC. If we want to use this entry as a place to hammer out a final decision on how the radio station will be perceived by the general Fandom population, I think that can't be anything but a good idea.

When we first put the radio station together, I asked the players at the time what they wanted included, and the consensus seemed to be anything that wasn't marked as specifically locked would be fair game for the Pirate and his buccaneer crew to go nutty with. If you would like that changed, please let us know and we'll fix it from here out.

Finally, thank you all for your support of the radio station, both IC and OOC. I know I couldn't pull it together every night without the help from Faith, Ash, and Veronica's players.

Fire away.

I'm still in favour of how you're doing it right now. I love the radio just the way you bring it and I appreciate all the work you put into it. I'd hate to see it get more restricted because this really is also a way to keep up with what is going on in the rest of the school as I don't always pay attention to everything. (And it's just too funny to hear all your views on it.)

How I'm treating this? Depends a bit, I see it more as the grapevine and sometimes let my character know a rumour here and there, but rarely the details unless he was actually there.

I'm going to reiterate what I said on the previous post: players should use common sense. If someone not in the conversation could have seen it (e.g. common room, diner, study hall, etc.) then treat it as IC information. If not, it's OOC, and should be used only to further the knowledge of the player. If someone crosses the line, tell them OOC'ly, and go on as if it was never said.

I think I'll stick to how I'm playing, I love reading the posts ooc- but keep Paige from listening to the radio cos it makes things confusing in her mun's head!

[identity profile] death-n-binky.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I, for one, will be very disappointed if the radio goes entirely OOC. I agree with the way you've been running it, which is that what is *said* over the radio becomes common knowledge to those that listen, whereas the links are OOC.

As for this debate of how you come by this information - its a high school! I remember people telling me about things they knew that she *shouldn't* have known anything about... but they did. High school grapevines are scary.

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
High school grapevines are scary.

Oh how true. Even if someone doesn't /know/ something, if Person A tells Person B that she suspects thing X, by the time it gets to Person H, it's the gospel truth.

[identity profile] 2ls-in-oneill.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't even go to a "high-school" high school and it worked like that. Every time someone got kicked out within literrally 15 minutes everyone knew and "knew" why.

[identity profile] 12parseckessel.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you. What is said is IC, and Han operates on that knowledge. But the links are OOC. Unless he knows it already from another interaction, he doesn't use it.

Of course, it helps that I come from the sort of dysfunctional household where there are things you "know" and things you "officially know."

It seems like most of the frustration with the amount of information shared over the radio is IC not OOC. I guess I'm just used to the [livejournal.com profile] hellmouth_news where everything is OOC, so people reacting to the radio IC is new to me. :)

Sorry to stir up trouble! But it's probably good that we all understand how other people are viewing the radio broadcasts.

It sounds like most people are happy with the radio as-is. I guess the general rule is, the character only knows what the DJ *says*, while the mun can read the link.

A [DNB] (Do Not Broadcast) tag (as suggested in the other thread) might not hurt if people want to get specific. OTOH, if it's public, there's always a chance that someone will see it and report it to the radio.

[identity profile] aka-vala.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm coming from being used to [livejournal.com profile] hellmouth_news as well, and therefore using it as a link-list of everything fun I might have missed in individual posts during the day -- completely OOC.

Walking the fine line [livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio does between IC and OOC is quite impressive (as is the amount of work they do! I helped fill in on [livejournal.com profile] hellmouth_news once or twice and it's a *LOT* of work!)

I'd love for it to get more OOC, just because I know of threads they haven't hit, that really deserve to be seen and cause monitor-spittage by one and all. But more than that I *don't* want it any more restricted -- otherwise it just becomes a summary of the community posts for the day, and I can do that myself pretty easily. (I want links to the dirt! The fights! The pranks! ;-)

Just my $.02

I love it just the way it is. Please please please don't change it. (With the exception of more guest Dj's...that would rule)

[former press secretary is soooo very tempted]

*raises an eyebrow* The radio station has the full support of the admin to be run as it is - IC with an OOC slant. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] death_n_binky completely. It would ruin the fun of it to go completely OOC.

Maintaining this comm, which is a huge service and requires a great deal of time, effort and creativity, should be applauded and appreciated.

Individual players need to take responsibility for the OOC/IC line and if there's some sort of issue with [livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio, it should be taken up with the admin who, at this time, are completely satisified with the community and how it is run.

[identity profile] shane-mcc.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. *applauds FHR comm people!*

And, y'know, this is sort of my fault... Shane made a comment in her journal about hearing something on FHR and feeling not exactly happy with what she'd heard. OOC, I have absolutely no problems with how FHR is being done. At all. Just for the record. I think the DJs do an awesome, awesome job (I never snirked as hard as I did when I read Ash's second broadcast) and I definitely don't wanna cause any trouble for them.

So... re: the original IC comment. There was no harm or offense intended, honest.

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
(([seriously has no issue...simply playing an idea. Say the word and I'll stop]))

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-10-02 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I completely love the radio, and I really don't even see the huge issue. I've always considered that our characters hear the words, and if we as the muns want to see what actually happened there, we could click the links.

Granted, the only thing I've had broadcast that I'd rather not have had is that Rory bought a gift that was intended to be a surprise. But thanks to slowtime, that wasn't even a problem.

I guess I sort of think of the radio as I do with my college radio, thrown together with my newspaper's gossip column. I have no problem with it, and you all seem to be very good-natured about what you broadcast. I have yet to see anyone intentionally try to defame someone else (with the exception of Ash, who seems to be out to defame everyone - and who I adore, by the way).

I just wanted to let the wonderful people over at [livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio know how much I (and Rory, of course) support them. (And randomly - Rory needs to talk to Barbossa about an idea she has, and will probably leave him a voicemail or something.)

I know this is a bit late, but I just got home and I wanted to let our DJs know how I feel. :)

I LOVE THE RADIO AS IT IS. Omg, capslock attack. *clings*

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
The radio station rocks as is, I think. I've always read the posts with the understanding that while the DJs are operating IC when making the posts, the actual content of the posts are partially OOC as far as what they do and don't actually know.

If necessary, maybe a disclaimer in the comm info to clarify this; otherwise, seems like most of us love the station as-is.

[identity profile] serra-inara.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I never even considered that this might be IC. I just considered it a 'funky recap' of the day.

Whatever you decide to do, I love what you've been doing. It is a thing of great beauty and amusement!

[identity profile] medusae-x.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it as it is, and I have no problem with you recapping anything my character does in any public venue. I appreciate the recaps, because scrolling through my entire flist to find out what's going on is maddening.

[identity profile] master-of-fear.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the recap, but I agree, the only things that should be recapped are things that can possibly be seen by the person djing. And obviously if only stuff that are public/not locked to certain people.

Otherwise I love it. You might have bothered Daniel (well, Ash did) but that's IC stuff.

Oh and if you're ever looking for a guest DJ, Elizabeth and Jonathan would love to DJ. Just give me plenty of advance in case I happen to disappear XD
