fringe townies

This is a call-out to the people who play a single character where that character is a townie and who doesn't teach up at the school or get much interaction in town.

The mun is looking for ways to better involve the 'fringe elements' of the townies in stuff around town: ie. those characters who have no real chance to speak/interact with the student body, who may not be the most sociable of folk (IC or OOC), or who are limited by lack of internet time.

Inara can't be the only character from her fandom, who doesn't teach, is an only-character for their mun, and has reasonable difficulty socialising due to lack of unusual skills, opportunity, or character flamboyance. Her mun figures there's gotta be a few characters out there looking for people/opportunities/plotlines to involve themselves in.

Besides, she's a sucker for organising things. Especially plotty things.

So, are any of the townie characters, new or otherwise, who don't have too much interaction and aren't getting much play elsewhere interested in bouncing around a few ideas for plot, interaction and action and getting something moving? Comment to this post and the mun will send around a group email later on in the week for people to discuss stuff.

He's not my only character, but I am trying to get him a little bit more involved in the game I'm just abit stuck for idea on how, so count me in if that's okay

Cool, he's always after female company if that helps you at all!

I don't fit the description of your post, but I did want to mention this (because I think what you're trying to do is awesome): Aziraphale is planning on starting a book club, which would meet once a week at the shop. Open to everyone -- student, teacher, townie -- in the hopes of giving people who normally wouldn't an IC reason to interact. If that might be something you're interested in helping with, that would be awesome. :)

Absolutely understood. I just didn't want to step on anyone's toes. :)

I'll drop you an email!

Aayla's not my only character, but she's not very social. Neither is my other character, but I might think about opening him up by himself.
Aayla doesn't seem to have the need to visit popular "hang out" spots (other than Aziraphale's, but then she's just with a one-on-one chat with the angel).
Did enjoy doing tai chi with Serra though (even if it got her called "boring" on the radio for the 2nd time in a row).
Let me know what you have in mind, if it's not too terrible that I have 2 characters.

I think most of the townies -- shop owners or not, regardless of activity level -- need more than just the popular hangouts to socialize. It's hard finding anything to throw my characters into outside of the same-old of the Emporium. I think Phale-mun's idea of the book club is good; we need more stuff like that. Michael and Ben would throw more parties, but my (all too real) workplace right now is a nightmare and hosting events is more than I want to contemplate these days.

(Totally off-center but if I can get my stuff organized I should draw Inara into the plot I'm working up to.)

BTW, Michael and Ben may be more active, but they're pretty sidelined when it comes to plottiness (hence me working on my own), and they're my only characters, so feel free to try to throw them in (even in just a fringe way) if you see fit.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Especially as schoolwork will be letting up after this week, and will be over in two. (Finally!)

Yep!

I was icly talking to Sonia about getting people together to go christmas carolling..

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that's a fantastic idea! I miss Christmas caroling so much. I promise lots of cocoa and treats waiting at the book shop if the carolers will come by! :)

[identity profile] luridpinkspikes.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Caroling would be fun! And I agree on your second point...

[identity profile] cabal-boone.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
The idea was to get the students involved with the townies, so they could meet some of them and interact in a social way without .. y'know.. just buying something from them.

Also.. Aaron and Sonia were brainstorming icly about offering walk-back services for students who work in town and would be walking home after dark. Not because it's needed, although that's the IC excuse, but to give townies more chance to interact with the kids.

There's really not enough crossover, and Townies kind of get treated like hyped up NPC's - which they aren't. More social activities is a good thing.

I understand Amber House has an unlimited amount of space inside. Also, I think Spike's has been suffering for patronage since Caritas opened -- maybe he would be willing to agree to rent out the space for events now and again.

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, and I believe it's owned by Dierdre of Amber -- although I don't know that I've seen her around lately.

I wonder if dead townies come back as zombies. Maybe that's what happened -- we weren't being invaded, there was just an influx of zombie-townies trying to pick up their paychecks. :p

Um, hi. :)

Although I don't yet play a character in Fandom Town, I'm hoping to once registration begins. I've created [livejournal.com profile] dutch_apple_pie for Paul Forrester from the "Starman" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090527/) TV series, which followed the movie. If accepted Paul will wander into Fandom Town with his camera case, a duffle bag, and the clothes on his back. Feel free to include him in your plans. :)

I may be slightly late to this discussion, but I've found that you just have to be willing to put yourself forward, really.

And I never would have thought of a Companion, one who is trained in all of the arts of seduction, conversation, and (fencing, flying) godess knows what else to be boring.

[identity profile] salmoneus.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Salmoneus, whose mun has been having an awful time at work but is finally getting her feet back under her, is about to arrive back in Fandom with some interesting news and a new attitude. He's thinking of throwing a Solstice party (cause he had no idea what Christmas is). If this would fit with anyone's plans, please contact me? I haven't been around much, but when he gets back I'd like to get him more involved.

There was also the idea of creating a Fandom Idol... and having it simul-cast on the Pirate Radio at the school. I'm still interested in that if anyone's up for it....

[identity profile] salmoneus.livejournal.com 2005-12-08 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sure do.

If there aren't enough townies, we can always start preparations, and maybe by the time we're ready, there will be.

I wanted to bring in Aphrodite as a judge for Fandom Idol... *g*
