Spot Light on Fandoms: Lucifer

Because the random number generator is secretly a big fan of Neil Gaiman, I bring you Lucifer.

The series is essentially a spin off of Sandman, starting from there and continuing on still today.

And yes, there are theological issues raised in the book, but nothing more than in Good Omens. If you don't think you can handle a series where the, dare I say it, hero is the Devil, this is not the comic for you.

Main Characters

Lucifer: The Devil, The Morningstar, Prince of Hell. Retired now, of course. In Sandman Lucifer asks Dream to cut off his wings and, after emptying everyone out of the place, then gives him the key to hell. The next time we see him, he's running a nightclub in L.A. called Lux.

Yes, the Devil running a nightclub doesn't just happen in Fandom.

He spends most of his days playing piano for the patrons of his club and occasionally doing a job for the Host. For a price. By doing this he gains access to Heaven again, something that will be important later on in the series.

Of course, this retirement is not without excitement. He has plans for his own Creation, a universe without God. When he schemes, he schemes on a large scale.

Mazikeen: Lucifer's consort and bodyguard. Not that he actually needs anyone to protect him, but it makes her feel useful. She's a Lilim, a race of being descended from Lilith, Adam's first wife.

Aaaand she's missing half her face. But she likes it that way, honest. She has known Lucifer since she was a child, before he fell from Heaven.

They have a lot of history together.

Michael Demiurgos: The archangel, one of the few angels Lucifer doesn't think is useless in the series. Michael is HIS power in a body and Lucifer is HIS will to use that power.

Lucifer thinks of him as his brother and even genuinely cares about him. So much, in fact, he even asks Micael to join him on more than one occasion.

Elaine: Michael's daughter who shouldn't technically exist. Micheal and Lucifer were made sterile and were never meant to have children.

Enter one crazy scientist angel who stabbed Micheal in the back and trapped him on earth for experiments since the Fall.

Why no angels went looking for him before the series started, I have no idea. Talk to the writers about that.

The Basanos: A deck of tarot cards that are evil. Not evil in that bad Scifi movie kind of way, evil in the possessing someone in order to destroy Lucifer kind of way.

They were made by another angel and are insanely powerful, so much so, that when they use their power to 'fix' Mazikeen's face, lucifer is unable to put it back the way it was.

Oh, and they're one of Lucifer's main nemeses for most of the series.

Don't ya just love comic books?

There are more (so many more) but for my sanity and yours, I won't bring them up here.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled AU weekend...
