Townlumni (aka What Shall We Do With a Former Character?)

Prior to today, once a character has left the game (unless they are an alumnus), they have been off-limits aside from the rare occasion when one or two have returned for a guest speaker role. This will change as of today.

Who Does This Apply To?
We're dubbing the characters this applies to as "townlumni." They are former characters that fulfill the following requirements:
* The character (non-graduated student, teacher, townie) has been active in the game for at least one year from when the player stops playing them in Fandom.
* The player must still be in the game.
* The character must be leaving under good terms (ie: if the character has been forcibly removed from the game, they are not eligible)
* The player understands and chooses to abide by the guidelines listed below.
* The character is not a student who has graduated. Those characters are still considered alumni and have a different set of guidelines (the guidelines for alumni aren't changing from the post just linked. This is for a different set of characters).

What's the Deal?
Our previous policy for current characters interacting with former characters has always been that current characters can visit or call them, but it must be handwavey and not played out with the player of the former character. This will now change so that when current characters go off-island to visit townlumni or call them on the phone, the player of the townlumni character can play out the thread instead of it all being handwaved.

In short, townlumni can now continue to interact with the game after they have left the island, but they must do so from a distance. Townlumni are not considered a central part of the game. It's just a privilege we're offering to people who want to have their former Fandomites keep in touch.

There are guidelines that will be strictly adhered to with regards to townlumni interaction. They are as follows.

* The townlumni character cannot return to Fandom. The only exceptions to this will be as per the previous examples of former characters briefly returning (ie: Rita Skeeter and Dream returning once for a class to guest speak for the day). The rarity of these returns will remain very, very rare. Townlumni cannot return for Homecoming or other events as alumni can.

* The townlumni character can continue to post their adventures in their own universe (or the universe they leave Fandom to go to) in their own journal. All visits to see a townlumni should occur in the townlumni's journal, not the visitor's journal. The townlumni journal will still be added to the official defriending list, but you're welcome to put up a note letting people know that you'll be continuing your character's adventures away from Fandom so they can choose to keep you friended.

* Townlumni accounts will lose posting access to the communities. There will not be a townlumni community.

* The townlumni character will not have access to Portalocity (they can't hop between universes at will for whatever reason, not even to visit an alumni or another townlumni).

* If a current character wishes to use a townlumni character in an off-island plot, the player in charge of the plot must list the townlumni character as a guest star proposed for approval.

* There are no posting requirements for townlumni. Once you give them up, they're just out there, but can keep in touch (which is the purpose of this change of policy). Additionally, they don't count towards fandom caps or personal character limits.

* Unlike alumni, townlumni do not get to keep their claim on their character. For example, Greg Sanders was in Fandom for at least a year but left and would be considered a townlumni. Greg's player does not have 'dibs' on Greg forever (as would be the case with an alumni provided they kept up with the alumni posting requirements). Someone could feasibly apply and be accepted as a new Greg Sanders. Former Greg would still be able to keep in contact as per the guidelines above, but has no 'rights' to the character. Those ownership rights for Greg would now be with the new player.

* As always, Fandom High does not recognize the canon of any other RPGs. If a character leaves Fandom High to go to another game, even if they fulfill all other townlumni requirements, they are not permitted to have contact with Fandom High characters. They will simply have dropped off the radar as many characters have in the past.

Please note: townlumni status will only apply for characters who were still in the game as of January 1, 2007. We will not be retroactively allowing characters back before that date.

If you have a former character that fits the profile and want to let people know that you'll be using their journal again for townlumni stuff, just ping in here with the character name and journal name so folks can know to re-add you if they want to.

Questions, comments, etc - feel free to ping us here or via administration@fandomhigh.net. Thanks!

I love you guys. There's a pretty good chance that I'll be making use of this shiny townlumni policy if the opportunity comes up.

<3 Just another reason this game is slathered in awesomesauce.

Except- wait, I don't think Lumiere has been active in the game for a year. Forget me. It's been hot. :D

*checks in late because I wasn't even considering the option at the time*

I'm not sure if Door would qualify or not? (And I would not be brokenhearted if the answer is no.) She'll be leaving sometime early next week, probably Sunday or Monday, which would put her at exactly a year or a few days shy, depending.

If she's been around a year, you betcha.

Yay, thanks! I don't foresee doing much besides sending a letter or two back to Fandom, but the option is much-appreciated.

Marie has been active for over a year and I'd like to sign her up for this so her guardians can keep in touch with her.

Aziraphale will be leaving at the end of December. I'd like to please put him on townlumni status at that time.
