Spotlight on Fandoms: Grosse Pointe Blank
So what is Grosse Pointe Blank?
Well simply put...

I'm done now, right?
No?
Fine...
In which I repeat myself:
Martin Blank is a freelance hitman who starts to develop a conscience, which causes him to muff a couple of routine assignments. On the advice of his secretary and his psychiatrist, he attends his 10th year High School reunion in Grosse Pointe, Michigan (a Detroit suburb where he's also contracted to kill someone). Hot on his tail are a couple of over-enthusiastic federal agents, another assassin who wants to kill him, and Grocer, an assassin who wants him to join an "Assassin's Union."
The Characters:
Martin Q. Blank - Played by John Cusack in what is definitely his best role ever. Martin was your typical teenage slacker with a drunk dad and a crazy mom. On the day of his senior high school prom he suddenly realized that he wanted to kill someone. Figuring that since he loved his girlfriend, he ran away and joined the army. While getting tested by the Army they realized he had a unique psychological profile and turned him over to the CIA for training. Ten years later he's a freelance assassin who still dreams about the ex-girlfriend every night and is slowly losing his taste for killing.
Debi Newberry - The snarky ex-girlfriend played by Minnie Driver. Ten years later she still holds a grudge
Grocer - I've only liked Dan Ackroyd in two roles. Elwood Blues and Grocer. Dan gave one of his best performances in this movie ranging from humorous, scary to downright drug-induced psychotic.
Dr. Oatman - Marty's reluctant Psychological care giver. Marty waited until a couple of sessions had gone by before revealing he was a hitman. Oatman refused to see him again but Marty just kept coming back.
Paul Spericki - Marty's best Bud from high school who sold Marty's childhood home to so it could be turned into an Ultimart. This would be your typical Jeremy Piven character played by... well Jeremy Piven. Duh.
Marcella - Marty's Gal Friday and Joan Cusack at her best. Seriously. She was glorious.
Steven Lardner - A government agent trailing Marty so he can kill him as soon as he kills his target. Why not kill him before he kills the target? Well, that would be unethical/
Kevin McCullers - The other government agent played by K. Todd Freeman. He has no problem killing Marty before he kills his target.
Felix LaPoubelle - A East European assassin who is one nasty dude played by Benny Urquidez who is actually the martial arts choreographer for the film. He's got a contract to kill Marty because Marty killed a nutjob's favorite hunting dog.
Mr. Bart Newberry Debi's father - Because every guy who dumps his girlfriend to join the army on Prom night should really face the guy who paid for the $800 prom dress.
Bob Destepello - The coked out BMW salesman (BMW? In Detroit? Sacrilege!) who still bears a grudge with good old Marty.
Why should I watch it?
Great performances and a plot that has a little bit of everything. Action. Comedy Romance. Drama. Plus it has the best soundtrack EVER.
Don't believe me?
You can't go home again. But you can shop there. In Lego!
You can't go home again. But you can blow it up.
Why you should always carry a pen

"It's not me."
"They all have husbands and wives and children and houses and dogs, and, you know, they've all made themselves a part of something and they can talk about what they do. What am I gonna say? "I killed the president of Paraguay with a fork. How've you been?"
"Some people say forgive and forget. Nah, I don't know. I say forget about forgiving and just accept. And... get the hell out of town."
"You're a handsome devil. What's your name?"
"I'll go put these in some rubbing alcohol."
Paul: I've got to get something off my chest. Have you been home to see the old house?
Martin: Yeah. Torn down in the name of convenience.
Paul: Yeah, I brokered the deal
Martin: Oh, wow. Wow.
Paul: I tried to get a family there, but Ultimart made the best offer.
Martin: Well, thank you for profiting on my childhood.
Mr. Newberry: What have you been doing with your life?
Marty: Uh... professional killer.
Mr. Newberry: Oh! Good for you, it's a... growth industry.
Marty: I'm a professional killer.
Paul: Do you have to do postgraduate work for that?
Amy: What do you do?
Marty: I work at Kentucky Fried Chicken. I sell biscuits and gravy all over the Southlands.
"A thousand innocent people get killed every day! But a millionaire's pet gets detonated, and you're marked for life."
"Easy there Chief, I don't see Hollow-Point Wound Care on the menu."
