Casting meme

I feel a cold threatening my brain so I shall post this meme before it gets completely eaten.

Sometimes when you're playing in a cross-fandom setting, you start to realise that certain characters have taken on the role someone else has in canon. The point of this meme is to take a look at the canon cast list and see who in FH could be cast as the character.

For example:
- Kawalsky is Cameron's Teal'c at FH. He's the person Cameron looks up at and wants to learn from.
- Aly would be Zuko's Uncle Iroh as she's the only person who can actually talk sense into him.

So in other words? Recast your canon using FH characters and feel free to explain us why!

Deadpool is definitely Hurley's Sawyer. The banter, the strange negotiation of power dynamics... it's there.

I think Ichigo is, to a very limited extent (as, you know, he hasn't dated Francine and made her strip naked in a park then crash her car into a tree), taking on a little bit of the Freddie Femur role as Katchoo's antagonist. Possibly Murdock is taking on some of that (oh so vaunted really) mantle as well. But really, very limited extent. Be glad -- it means she won't threaten to castrate you with a jigsaw. ;)

Ronan and Cal are in some ways a little bit of a platonic version of David Qin for Chewie -- even though they're guys, she actually tolerates their presence, even kind of likes them around.

[personal profile] withoutverona 2008-09-29 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so the obvious thing is to say Dojima is Juliet.

But if Dojima were Juliet, I'm pretty sure her reaction to finding Cute Montague From Party mooning around her pool would be closer to "awesome, get your ass up to my room before someone spots you" than to "I like kissing you, let's get married." But I do think one of the things that works for Romeo, in either relationship, is they're both sort of levelheaded women (in very different ways) who can bring him back to earth when he's flying off in a thousand different directions. And of course there's a degree of comfort with Dojima he never got the chance to develop with Juliet, so in some ways it's a deeper love.

Beyond that? Reno is Mercutio, Brooke is Rosaline (though he was slightly saner about Brooke), and, oddly, I think if he had a problem that he would have needed Friar Laurence for at home, in Fandom he would go to Anakin.

I have trouble with drawing a distinct line between Kerrigan and Aly in relation to Hughes and Hawkeye. They both have certain aspects of these characters. The most obvious being they job with Aly as the spy (Hughes) and Kerrigan the soldier (Hawkeye). They both have a similar kind of influence in his life too, both backing him up no matter what and both being the people he would trust with his eyes closed. But then as I look at how Kerrigan left, she'd definitely be Hughes as she's another loss in his life. Aly would be Hawkeye as she stays with him.

Now staff wise... I think Dale is a cross between Breda and Falman who both are very, very smart and who Roy trusts just as much as he does Dale. (And he doesn't steal their girlfriends.)

Not sure yet who Ray would be. Maybe Havoc?

Fraser might be Armstrong, just in the me being lazy category as he's someone not directly under his command who he can work very well with.

[identity profile] thismaskiwear.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . oh thanks, now I'm imagining Fraser ripping his shirt off at random and being all glittery and o.O.

Chuck --> Kaylee. Obviously. Even if FH!Ned still misses Chuck (NOT BASS), Kaylee has definitely become the one who makes him all googly faced.

Emerson --> Turtle. It works, trust me. Turtle is nowhere NEAR as thorny as Emerson and doesn't blackmail him (SOMEWHAT) into helping her out but he does do things to her and she, in turn, helps him out when she can. And it's kind of one of those friendships that you don't think would happen.

Digby --> Digby. That one's easy. *g*

[identity profile] rocksthescarf.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...Are you saying Chuck Bass doesn't make you googly faced?

Kara --> Adah. Right down to the making fun of each other, calling each other names and the lack of control in public places.

Kara --> Toby! Uh, it's weird because Adah's more of Lee's Kara in the romantic sense but Toby's totally Kara in the BFF, fool around and be dorks sense.

Daddy Adama --> Kerrigan. EVEN BEFORE SHE WENT ALL EVIL.

Galactica!Sharon --> River. Mmm, love/hate.

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Victoria --> Robin. Except Robin's not insane. IT'S THE ONLY GOOD COMPARISON I HAVE.

RayV --> Deadpool, definitely. It's the banter and the UST and all that jazz.

RayK --> RayK. Lookit that!

Thatcher --> Maybe Roy here. Roy's not his superior but they definitely do work together very well.

Frannie --> Parker. Well, I think so, at least. *g*

Let's see...

Blair --> Blair, obviously. As if she can be replaced.

Nate --> TBA. I have no idea yet. Romeo and Hannibal are too cool to be the Nate.

Serena --> Brooke or Robin. BADASS SERENA. Not "waaaaaaaaah, Dan come over here and judge me!" Serena. I'm talking the Serena Chuck probably would have hung out with before she ran away.

Jenny --> Amber. For obvious reasons.

Dan --> Aside from Nemesis Dan? Edward Cullen. You judgey, judgey vampire.

Vanessa --> Reserved for people Chuck has talked to and doesn't like *eyes Dean*

Papa Bass --> Oh Chuck so needs a father figure here. Preferably one without the scary Papa Bass crazy eyes (DUDE. HE LOOKS JUST LIKE THE YED FROM SPN)

Chloe --> Jaina. EXCEPT HER POWERS ARE WAY COOLER THAN CHLOE'S.

Ollie --> Hannibal. Just for the hotness factor.

Jimmy --> Ned. OMG I'M SORRY. I thought "flaily dork" and that's what I came up with.

Arashi --> Theresa Cassidy. The women he loved and wanted to be better for, but just couldn't. But he's still all adoring of her.

He doesn't really HAVE a canon counterpart for the kids he's decided to adopt like he's Angelina Jolie.

Uh...

Roy --> Ajax. Hate hate haaaates with the passion of a thousand suns. Ajax was the one who triggered Deadpool's healing factor finally by literally ripping his heart out. FUN TIMES.

Rosette --> Death. My OTP there. Deadpool/Death. So he starting being able to see the personification of Death in the Marvel Universe and they kinda fell in love. And when he was juuust about to die and be with her... *points up*

Hinata = Hinata. Again, easy. Though this one was also covered by Lana.

Chouji = Liir. He's there, he's comfortable, she'll rage at him and boss him around, and at the end of the day worry about him if something's wrong.

Inoichi = Cable. She knows Cable's not her Dad, but he's a lot more like a dad than a teacher to her.

Asuma = Deadpool and Anakin. No, really. I'm serious here. She listens to them in different ways, and tries to apply that to what she's already got in her head.

Naruto = Ichigo, if she actually bothered to get to know Naruto in canon better, I suspect it'd be as short-tempered as this is.

Shikamaru = Totally Cal. He's got the deadpan and the sarcasm and they 'hey, we're friends even though we stomp on each other's buttons all the time'.

Romeo has totally turned into Reno's Rude, here at Fandom. They don't have that same ability to just glance at one another and know exactly what the other is thinking, and they don't finish one another's sentences in quite the same way, either. But Reno trusts Romeo, in much the same way, with his life. And from there, he feels comfortable just opening his trap and talking about things he wouldn't dream of bringing up to most people.

In a far more broad sense, Reno has this thing about Newbies. If they are New! and Lost!, then he feels the need to take them under his wing and he does his damnedest to see to it that they're at least seen through the start of their time there a little safer and more comfortably than they would be otherwise. He does this with the unnamed player-character Turk at the beginning of Before Crisis, and he's taken to newbies here, like Alice and Hinata, in much the same way.

Fraser: ... Probably Prester John. Except without the moustache. Or, presumably, a stella rod! Being a kind and kinda quirky part of the staff!

Robin: Like Irene Merryweather, but a lot merrier. Girl Friday, potential-for-serious-conversation-y person, possibly shit-caller in the future. ...But again, Robin has a helluva lot less temper.

The Wellspring staff: They're like X-Force, really. Ino would be Tabby and Rikku could be a lot like that ol' hayseed, Cannonball (... he seems to attract blondes). Otherwise... just generic X-Force, doing his bidding. Muhahaha. ... although we all know how that ended.

Viki: Occasionally, shades of Storm in terms of Having Serious Philosophical Conversations, but otherwise, pretty much nobody.

Roy: Johann Krieg, Chief of Security. Nate always unnerved the crap outta Johann, too.

Kurogane: Any of the warrior types Nate occasionally chills with in canon, pretty much.

Arashi: ... edges of Wolverine. Except Wolvie gets more rage, whereas with Arashi he's happier to just be apathetic.

Deadpool: ... Deadpool. There is really no one else like him. ("Probably a good thing.")

Hannibal: Like Bean before Bean earned Ender's respect. Lots and lots of trying to one-up each other.

Temari: Petra Arkanian, the loud, abrasive girl with the big attitude who taught Ender to shoot and called him names. Fits like a scary glove.

Ben: Also bits of Bean, but mostly like any of the kids under Ender's command way back when. The boy gets it but needs guidance (or that's how Ender feels, at least).

Anakin's Padmé was, well, Padmé and we all know how well that ended. Rory is a Padmé who calls him on his bullshit and is therefore an infinitely better match.

Anakin's Obi-Wan in Fandom is Karal. Anakin forgets that Karal is younger, and ignores the part where Karal is dating a clone of his dead wife entirely.

Anakin has, very fortunately, not found a replacement for Palpatine and he wasn't really looking to replace Yoda.

He protects Jaina like he would Leia, though, and treats most of his students as the none-too-bright Padawans he thinks they are :)

[identity profile] tatooine-doofus.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke's Fandom Leia was Dawn, Rikku, Jaina and Rory--girls who weren't afraid to tousle his hair and tell him what a dork he was and love him for it anyway.

Luke's Han was John Sheppard--the one who knew just a little bit more than Luke did about the world and had fun exploiting that knowledge.

Gavin was Gavin and could never be replicated or replaced :)

HIMYM has the benefit of having 80% of the main cast here in Fandom already. Oh, absent Ted.

However, if I had to choose:

Fraser is really nice mix of a bunch of Robin's boyfriends that she's had to date. He's a less-pressurey Ted, but he's got the old guy thing like Bob and he impresses her like Derek and that English doctor and is a nice guy like Mike and...dude with the kid. I forgot his name. And he used to play hockey, like her sports guy! But he's a lovely mix of all that she's attracted to. (Barney, obviously, being excluded because a. Barney's here and b. he's so the exception to her rules most of the time. *cuddles OTP*)

Deadpool is a wonderful mix of the RANDOM of HIMYM -- he's got elements of Marshall and Barney's goofy sides, and there's a touch of Ranjit, but more than anything, he's like a less-harassing Sandy Rivers to Robin -- someone who's funny and weird and plays off her really well, but at the end of the day can actually engage in serious conversation if/when she needs to hear it.

Ino and Brooke are both sort of representative of Robin's little sister, Katie, who if the PW gods smile upon me will be visiting this year. Actually, Brooke reminds Robin more of herself in college (or, well, post-Robin Sparkles), but they both fall under the "omfg I want them to turn out better than I did, must dispense advice while giving them sweet things to drink and making sure they don't sleep with boys with faux-hawks!!" heading.

If Barney wasn't here, I'd say Chuck reminds him of her. I mean, he does. He's like mini-Barney. It both worries and pleases her that there's a second generation of Barneys out there.

And I'm kind of out.

Ooooooh. This one's tough for Rikku.

The striking one is that Deadpool is totally her father, Cid. [[Her father Cid has this crazy-wild Southern accent and is most likely to be chomping on a cigar and going "Welllll ... I ain't got no ideas. Let's blow the sumbitch up an' see what happens." Fun guy.]] Protective of Rikku, but when she flits off diving for ruins in the ocean, or attempting to kidnap her well-guarded cousin, or on a crazy quest to save the world, he's fine with it. Scary world, and the girl's a spitfire, she can handle herself. Impulsive, not entirely sane, but he's the leader of the tribe for a reason, and woe to anyone who forgets that.

And I just realized that Tidus, her mess-his-hair-up I CAN BE A BIGGER DORK THAN YOU goof-off strictly-platonic-despite-mild-UST friend, is totally John Sheppard.

[identity profile] weefeetbigboots.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Since my Kaylee is pre-canon, this is representative of the relationships in canon, regardless of whether the character is actually present in the game omg. Since we have, you know, a LOT of the cast.

Ned is obviously Simon -- the boy she likes, who she has to kind of guide by the hand in not saying the wrong thing, or making her happy, or doing normal boy/girl things because he's so awkward, sigh.

Blair, honestly, is kind of like a really mean Inara. I'd almost go so far as to say she's a constant version of those mean girls in Shindig, except Blair's a lot more sneaky than those girls, and Kaylee -- stupidly -- thinks they're like friends omg. But Kaylee looks up to her as being Omg So Glamorous, and at her heart, Kaylee kind of wishes she could be a pretty, fancy girly-girl like Blair (while still being able to be a tomboy.)

Tony is her Mal, in a way. She looks up to him and will do what he tells her without question. She reports to him, and while she does harbor a weeeeee bitty crush there (because she has EYES), she kind of views him as a mentor first and foremost.

Mike is closest to being Face. Though they haven't run any scams together (and it would be amusing if they did) Mike doesn't seem to mind Murdock's 'quirkiness' and is his best bud.

Abby Irene probably takes the role of Hannibal. Yes, she's a gal, I know. But Murdock has a lot of respect for her and will actually listen to her when he needs it. Just like he does with the Colonel.

Lacey, in an odd way is like Amy. Even though she hasn't been in the series since Season 2, she was an integral part of the team and if anything, had a higher tolerance if not downright amused by some of Murdock's more creative antics. And since Lacey hasn't chased him off yet, it fits.

I haven't found anyone to be his BA yet. Any takers? :D

Ooh, fun meme!

Evey is his Natoli (his canon love interest), and they actually share a lot of the same characteristics. Brilliant, independent, strong, an interest in how things work and how that can change the future, though in Evey's case it's bombs, not mechanics. (Karal seems to have a thing for women who could kick his ass.)

Gavin is Karal's Florian, and has been since they met. His best friend, who he trusts absolutely and would do anything for. (Come on - first day they met, Gavin said he'd protect him from bad things!) Except for the bit where Gavin's not dead. And not shaped like a horse.

Anakin is, frighteningly enough, his Ulrich, his mentor figure. Also with the not being dead, though.

Andrew is his An'desha. Afraid he's going to do evil things, in need of someone to help him through it, who Karal loves and is very afraid for. The parallels aren't precise, but they're pretty damn close, and I didn't realise it until right now.

ETA: Because something else came to me while brushing my teeth. In canon, Karal has siblings - they're hardly ever mentioned, 'cause once he was taken he was pretty much brainwashed into forgetting his family (in finest cult tradition!). However:

Aravis - Totally his big sister. Never mind she's younger than him.
Jaina - Same, and he has the added little brother quality of annoying the crap out of her lately.
John - Totally that sometimes annoying (especially when fighting over their one true loooove) almost the same age as you little brother.
Liir - Totally his littlest brother, of whom he's very protective.
