bitten_notshy is me cheesily appropriating the proverb about once bitten, twice shy. Because he's a total fangbanger and so not shy at all.

tyler_back is a reference to his original student LJ handle,

tyler_gone, which was a quote from one of my favorite moments in the movie.

The new one,

living_endless, is another appropriation of a phrase -- she's one of the Endless, and in this form she's living (mortal), and I thought it was sort of mildly amusing to play off the phrase "the living end" for Death.

The characters who have come and gone since we last did this,

doesnt_vomit and

saveyoulater, were both episode quotes that seemed to sum up the character as well as any 15 characters would. Brennan's was just somethng that made me laugh. Sarah's is the more interesting because I'd forgotten the context when I named the journal. I thought it was her being flip, and in fact it's what she says when she has reason to believe Chuck will be killed dead like a dead thing -- and she's vowing she won't let it happen. So it's stronger than I thought it was, really.

demon_cupid because Drake was born -- or, rather, hatched -- a demon, but he's all about loooooooooooove, so he should've been a cupid.

Angela's was an easy one. First five minutes of the Bones pilot, Angela is picking up Brennan at the airport and flashes some guy at the information desk who isn't paying attention to her.

BRENNAN: And yet, I was never reduced to flashing my boobs for information.
ANGELA: Flash them for any fun reasons?

Claire's is really pretty simple. The advertising catchphrase of the first season was "save the cheerleader, save the world" and Claire was the cheerleader in question. And she was very adamant that she was just a cheerleader and not anyone special.

And then in S2, when her family moved and she switched schools, her daddy told her she couldn't be on the cheerleading squad for fear of drawing attention to their family. But she really really wanted to be on the squad, to the point where she did a Very Mean Thing to the cheer captain to procure a spot.

So, yeah, she wants to cheer.

withoutverona was one of the few play quotes not already in use that I could convince myself made any sense. It's technically an archaic sense of the word 'without' -- it means 'outside,' not 'lacking' -- but I don't expect anyone not-me to get that. Anyhow, it fit his Fandom journey, which was about learning to be more than a Montague, no matter how you interpret the first word.

future_visions -- Phoebe is a witch and she can see visions of the future and of the past... thus the user name. My lack of creativity when the game first started, let me show you it. When I can think of a better name for her to reflect who she is and how much she's changed since the beginning, I'll probably change it. I've been wanting to change it for awhile, but I haven't been able to think of a creative name for her that fits.

Savannah:

walks_two_paths -- Savannah's mother was a witch and her father was a sorcerer. She has the powers of both and can do both witch and sorcerer spells... so, pretty much, she's balancing two paths of magic and walking two paths of life. Her trying to balance the lighter witch spells with the darker sorcerer spells has come into play a lot with her.

Gwynn:

notafairmaiden -- In canon, Gwynn wants to be anything but a lady and stay at home. She doesn't want to be a maiden fair, she wants to be a fighter for what she believes in. Unfortunately, the name I REALLY wanted,

byreasonofmygender (a phrase she uses on Phillip when he tries to give her his horse she was going to steal) was too long and

notamaidenfair was taken. Thus, she got stuck with

notafairmaiden.

Annja:

annjaofthesword -- My lack of creativity, let me show you it. This user name also came about because I could not think of a good name for her to save my life. So, I came up with, well she has the sword and that pretty much directs her life now, so

annjaofthesword. Of course, now I have all kinds of user name ideas for her. *facepalm*

Chloe:

awakestheghosts -- This one was relatively easy because it says so much about her. She's a Necromancer that brings bodies back to life, and she seems to wake up ghosts and see them when no one else does. It just was a perfect fit for her. I think it's my favorite user name that I've come up with for one of my characters.

The boy Joan likes in canon calls her Jane. It's never really explained why. But it's a thing. And I was feeling uncreative when I made her journal.

Worf's was easy. Any time Worf introduces himself to other Klingons he always says "I am Worf. Son of Mogh."

And that's all there was to it. It was also an LJ handle I think I grabbed in the first year of the game and didn't even think I'd use. Totally glad I did.

Jonothon's username just bounced into my head one day. And then I giggled like an idiot for the better part of an hour. It's pretty self-explanatory. He has a face. Half of it is a psionic furnace. And

furnaceface just rolls off the tongue, I think.

puppy_fair is another one of those easy ones. Zack's last name is Fair, and everyone calls him "Zack the Puppy." My creativity, let me show you it.

shiroi_tiger was a little more difficult, because I couldn't decide what combination of Japanese and English I wanted to slap together. Algren gets canonically compared to a white tiger in Japan, and so some form of White Tiger it was going to be. I think I settled on Japanese first because white_tora just didn't have quite the right feel to it.

feline_royalty is... Well... Do you have any idea how hard it is to find an open LJ name that alludes to Shakespeare in any way, shape, or form? I think I tried pretty much every variation on Tybalt's "Prince of Cats" title under the sun before I chanced upon this one, and by that point it was like, "GOOD ENOUGH. MINE."

raspberryturk alludes not only to the bright red colour of Reno's hair and tattoos, but also the fact that he has a dorky habit of sticking out his tongue at people. He's being shot at? Raspberry! PBBTH. Plus, you know, he's a Turk. It made sense at the time.

Naomi's username is rather lame, since I just took Ktarian, which is her species and her surname, which is Wildman, thus creating her username

Andros' is my favourite username out of the three. In the second episode of Power Rangers in Space, he introduces himself to the other rangers as "I'm called Andros', so I just took that and made it his username

There's an episode late in S4 where Gordon Gordon Wyatt (Booth's S2 therapist played by Stephen Fry) comes to meet Sweets because he's writing the intro for Sweets' book.

During the case they work on, Brennan rips off Sweets' shirt (not dirty) and notices that he has scars on his back. She mentions this to Booth and Gordon Gordon. Near the end of the episode, Gordon Gordon is cooking dinner at Booth's apartment and they discuss Sweets. Gordon Gordon explains that Sweets is looking for a new family and has "imprinted" (also not dirty) on Booth and Brennan and Brennan blurts out "Oh, like a baby duck".

Gordon Gordon hints that they should go invite Sweets to join them and Booth grabs his coat and says "Come on" and Brennan is all "Where are we going?" and Booth replies "Duck hunting". It was all very cute and very revealing about Sweets' character. The whole episode cinched me on the idea of wanting to play Sweets at some point and I literally made the journal minutes after the episode ended because Brennan's line was just so perfect.

dojima_hime In canon, Dojima's coworkers make jokes about the fact that she never has to do any work because "She's special," and it's implied multiple times that she only has her job because of family connections. Since she's referred to a few times as "The princess," I went with one of the Japanese honorifics denoting a young lady of high birth.

The miniseries actually changes this scene quite a bit, and leaves the bit about Ghanima out entirely, but she is very much the Atreides Lioness as she walks down those stairs, prepared to defend her brother and the Golden Path from any and all who would dare abuse their power.

death_of_hope There's a scene in an episode where Dominic picks some flowers in an attempt to cheer Anemone up. Unfortunately, she's having one of her depressive days, and bitterly asks him if he knows what the flowers mean. When he admits ignorance, she brutally informs him that he's brought her an anemone flower, which stands for the "death of hope," and that it's perfect for her.

This is also the scene with their first kiss, and Anemone shows more self-awareness than she has in all the episodes leading up to this. She's sane for one, brief moment, and it's heartbreaking.

icecoldfrost is simply a play on Emma's last name and her nature. There's too many canonical references to Emma's cold heart to count, although I referenced my favorite one for her AU journal,

Gibbs's handle came from his style of investigating crime which is largely by instinct. In fact there's rarely an episode where one of his team members make a reference to his "gut".

Though according to Ziva, Gibbs has a six pack. Not sure how she knows that but I'm happy to go along with it.

Effy's was vaguely based off her single line from the first season of Skins. All the obvious ones were taken, so I smushed a couple of different bits of it together.

"Sometimes I think I was born backwards. You know came out my mum the wrong way. I hear words go past me backwards. The people I should love I hate, and the people I hate..."

ETA: Oh as

diedbackwards (her AU vamp persona) came from the same quote. Except, you know, she died but became a vamp... So obviously, she died backwards. Or something. Made sense to me.

Mat, as you all will soon learn, swears like a sailor. "Bloody" is his favorite term. And he's the embodiment of luck. And is also a general, so he's luck leads to bloody things, and I thought I was amusing. So yeah,

capt_maxfactor is a shout-out to the eyeliner Jack wears throughout the movie. Because he's worth it, yo.

gudspellr_claud is funny because it's spelled wrong. Oh, Claudia. I'll miss you.

nojesusfreak also amused me. Biff grew up with Jesus but he's not, like, evangelical about it. He's no Jesus freak.

momslilassassin is because in canon, Ben's a bit of a mama's boy. And an assassin. And wee. I thought this name wouldn't make him seem all that intimidating, as he started the game being fourteen.

sith_happened was Erin's idea. After Anakin stopped being a giant mask-wearing Vader, well, Sith had happened. Plus the reference to "shit happened", since I'd just put him through emotional wringer and la!

tatooine_doofus is because Luke is from Tatooine. And is a doooooork.

death_and_pies is kind of obvious if you know the Pushing Daisies canon. Ned is the piemaker; pies (and Chuck) are his life. Of course, with that life, he can bring people back from the dead and/or make them dead again with just one touch. It's simple but I've never gotten tired of it.

goodgirlmeg - It's obvious.

armybrat_lois - It's obvious.

surferboy_09er - Obvious save for the '09er part. That would be a reference to where all the cool kids in Neptune live: the 90909 zip code.

badassfullback - It's obvious. But for you people who are sports illiterate, a fullback is the position in the offensive backfield in football. Mostly they block for the quarterback and play running back on running plays.

In even simpler terms: they knock bitches over and they're the big guys that the quarterback tosses the football to, not the fast guys.

Bet you didn't know you were gonna get a football lesson in this meme, did you?

canoutdrinkyou - Obvious, but also a reference to Marion's first scene in Raiders where she's engaged in a drinking contest. She wins. Duh.

baskiceball - This is a reference to the game Marshall and his brothers invented. It's a brutal game that is mostly an excuse for them to whale on each other with basketballs, lacrosse sticks and mallets while wearing ice skates. And it's not iceketball. It's baskiceball.

maythrowuponyou - When Bones is first shown during the new movie he's having a panic attack over having to be on a shuttle. He was trying to hide in the bathroom but some lady makes him sit next to Jim and he immediately turns and tells him "I may throw up on you". And thus, a beautiful friendship was born.

rocksthescarf - Chuck has a trademark scarf that he wears almost every day during the fall/winter. I wouldn't touch it unless he gives you permission to. There's a 50% chance you'll get your head chopped off if you try to take it without asking.

stupid_toasters is STILL one of my most favorite handles ever. It's simple but it's just perfect. In BSG canon, Cylons have many nicknames but one of the most common ones is toasters. And Lee, being a human, isn't too fond of Cylons (for the most part, oh canon). Thus, the handle

stupid_toasters because Lee does think they're stupid.

I made this journal a really long time ago. I think for one of the "show us your journals" posts because I've had the idea to play Eric here for a while.

The name is a play on a canon quote. I can't remember the exact context at the moment, but he's talking to his parents and he says:

So I said to myself, Kyle, that's what I call myself...

just_add_starch is another favorite of mine! Fraser, canonically, wears starched white boxer shorts. It also makes sense in that Fraser is rarely slouched or off his guard so, add some more starch to him, and watch his posture straighten and tighten even more!

whitedeathpod is another favorite of mine and it's another quote directly from the canon!

Crais: "You charged my brother’s Prowler in that white death pod of yours."

The white death pod in question was Crichton's Farscape module (a hunk of junk) that accidentally caused the death of Tauvo Crais.

longislandiceme is a play on a nickname Bobby gets called occasionally- Long Island Iced Tea, due to, well, the whole ice powers bit. He's also actually from Long Island, so it works on two levels! Sadly the entire phrase wouldn't fit intact, so some of you probably remember my humming and hawing back when I was making the journal, trying to figure out which letter to leave out so it'd fit.

FWIW as someone who knows not the canon (I'M WORKING ON IT), it works as a REALLY cute pun. Seriously, as soon as the list went up I was in IM with like four people going "OMFG HOW CUTE IS THAT? DO YOU GET IT?"
