tell me a story, game!
So with the new kids coming in and showing off their shiny new fandoms, I'm curious.
How'd you get into your canon?
Did you just pick it up one day and found yourself unable to put it down, or did someone (maybe from this game) drag you into it? How long have you been into it? Was there any one thing or character that hooked you on it? This is your chance to wax nostalgic and go on about what made your canon so cool for you. If there's a story behind it, tell us! And if there's not... tell us anyway!

Supernatural is a bit of a more interesting story, though.
So, when SPN first aired, I was in the Czech Republic, learning to teach English and generally thinking I was really hip. I think I managed to download like, one episode of house and one of Lost to try to keep up on shows I watched stateside, and my mother mailed me a burned DVD of Lost episodes once. The only TV I had access to was a) hooked up to a German satellite company (Voyager auf Deutsch is kind of hilarious) or b) entirely in Czech until the last few weeks, when they finally got the English channels working and watched a lot of VH1 and Cartoon Network, since they were the only channels that came through. I read a lot. And watched every last freaking bit of the DVDs I brought with me at least twice. It snowed every day in November in over stateside, Nate and Gumboy were talking about this game which I couldn't jump in on because my email access was, like, 20 minutes four times a week in the back of a video store, most of which was spent downloading email. I didn't even know a show called Supernatural existed until we got a Sam and a Dean in this game.

IT IS. I love when the name of the random Trek thingie is so long in German that it trails into the next scene.

(continued -- YES IT'S THAT LONG SHUT UP)
Guess which I picked?
So I got the first season and watched it while housesitting for my uncle in DC. Whiiiiiiich wasn't the best idea, as I spent a few nights stalking around the house to investigate strange noises with my cellphone in hand ready to call my other uncle who lived up the street. Fun fact! The strange noises in the night being made by cats? Isn't funny when you're convinced that that means you're moments from being brutally killed by the super villain.
Then I got to the end of the first season finale. And laughed. And laughed. And scared my uncle's cats shouting "MY NAME ISN'T REALLY MICHAEL VAUGHN!" Thanks, JJ!
So, season 2 started and I started watching as it aired, but then came the, like, third ep of the season and it had vampires in it and my sister called because she was doing an exhibit on community theater for her museum and she wanted to pick my stage managerial brain and I got distracted. And I stopped watching as it aired and glided happily along through second season only hearing a few things here and there about that show, Supernatural, and it was pretty cool, did you know they had a trickster? You should watch it! And I'd go "eh, yeah, I guess," and go on my merry way watching Ugly Betty instead.

Yes, I actually think like that.
Anyway, so I'm decoupaging my coffee table (which looks awesome, by the way), and I think "what the hell" and I put season one of SPN on as background noise. First time through I was a total Sam girl, mostly because he had floppy hair and got choked a lot, but second viewing I started to notice Dean more -- possibly because I remembered the whole coma thing from second season and was intrigued (shut up). And around the time I was rewatching "Skin", I realized that season 2 was over, and I could probably track that down and watch it.
By the time I got to "What Is And What Should Never Be", I was like "THIS IS THE GREATEST SHOW IN EXISTENCE AND DEAN IS THE BEST CHARACTER EVER AND HE CRIES ON CUE, OMG" and I watched it obsessively on a daily basis, despite this meaning I was rewatching a lot of episodes, and I apped to play Dean in another game and I started writing fanfic and it was alllllllllllll over.
And now I have Castiel. Because Misha Collins is mfing amazing. I fangirl him liek woah, even though I wasn't that into his character at first -- which is like the story of my life with this show? It's like it's an acquired taste. That sucks you in. And grows on you. And mixes metaphors in your brain until you stop making sense and Kripke cackles evilly in the background.
