Guidelines on Transferring Current Characters to Another Character-Class

Hey, y'all!

There's been some completely justified uncertainty about what to do and fill out if you'd like to bring an alumnus/ex-pat back or shift from one on-island position to another.

We've discussed it and come up with a set of transfer guidelines (linked on the [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh user-info now) that should cover all the possibilities! (Until some smarty-pants throws a scenario at us that we didn't think of.)

We wanted to get the info out there while apps are still open (psst - they close on the 20th) in case it applies to anyone's plans for the next session, so here it is!

Questions? Cupcakes? Puppies?

Shiny guidelines! Thank you.

Two questions, more because I am curious than because either of these is personally urgent.

1. The IC/OOC/utterly reasonable policy is that teachers should not date students, unless they're really really sneaky about it. Does that still apply if a recent graduate is teaching? What if it's an established pairing? (Eg., if Jack wanted to stay and teach, could he still see Emma, or would they have to split up until she graduated.)

2. What is the dividing line between "short term" and "long term" for returning alumni/expats? If a player is pretty much just seeing how something goes in bringing an expat back, would you rather have the short form or the long form?

1. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

2. I can answer right away: only a semester or two summer terms = short term. Longer than that = long term. If you're unsure about whether you want it to be long-term or not, treat it like it's long-term. Short-term is for if you know they'll be leaving again after X amount of time.

Okay, back with an answer to the more complicated question!

The same situation still applies: if you're going to have a teacher character date a student character no matter what their ages, keep it on the downlow. No one is going to force an established couple to actually break up, and the IC administration probably knows they're dating, but at least try to keep it quiet for plausible deniability, and be aware that there may be IC consequences in terms of other characters not approving of the idea.

In more practical terms, though, this is one of the reasons we'd suggest not sending a graduate straight into teaching; if you'd like your new grad to stay on the island to be around their loved one, making them a townie would be a better choice.

That all makes sense! Thank you for clarifying on both points.
