BDE Sign Ups Part 1: Staying On The Island!
Staying in THIS reality?
After seeing the other post, you might be asking yourself what’s going to happen to those left on the island when all video game hell breaks loose. Well, this is the post for that, so buckle up and let's see if we can't answer your questions before you can ask 'em!
The adults and students remaining in our Fandom aren’t going to have an easy time of it. When the device breaks, it’s going to crack the heck out of the island, leaving voids where business and homes used to be and even taking friends and family along with them. As time progresses, the situation on the island will grow more dire, becoming unlivable in places. Nasties from other realities (radscorpions, mirelurks, raiders, centaurs, feral ghoul, and radroaches, just to drop a few names) will slip through the voids, bringing their foul temperaments and desire to kill, maim, and not clean all things with them! Smaller cracks will tear up the landscape of our fair island, creating swamps and craters and infesting the land with poisonous flora.
While this is happening, the Fandomites left on the island have to figure out what is causing the cracks in reality. A Research Team, compromised of Fandom’s top minds, is tasked with trying to find out HOW the device works and what things are needed to fix it. It’s not going to be easy; the device is a complicated piece of machinery and they’ll be dealing with all sorts of things trying to stop them but we’re confident they can do it! This team will have to go take a look at the broken device, take notes and pictures, and return to try and compare them with blueprints of the original device (found in the trusty library) to see what's missing.
Once the research team has the knowledge, the information has to go to the other worlds somehow. That’s where our Magic Team comes in. The combined strength of the magic users, focusing their respective powers (chanting, empathy, wands etc) on the broken device will activate three phones in the respective environments and allow communication between Fandom and the three cracked worlds. With the message out, the castaways in the other environments will now be off trying to find the pieces that will fix the machine.
By this time, Fandom is going to almost be destroyed. There’s going to be little left in terms of livable area, there’s going to be nasty bad things all over and nothing is really safe. Our Strike Team is going to have to make it through tough conditions to get to the device. Once there, they have to put the three items back on the piece of machinery and get it going again. When they're successful and the device starts working again, things start to fix and everyone comes home! Fail and, well, we’ll all be looking for a new game tomorrow! DUN DUN DUN.
Good story, how do I PARTICIPATE?
Glad you asked! This is the post for on-island sign-ups, too!
Who needs to sign-up?
So far, we're not planning to preplay these teams, meaning Magic Team should anticipate pinging in for SP on Saturday and Strike Team members should plan for SP on Sunday.
Below, we'll be providing you with sign-ups for the choices listed above. Participation in the Research, Magic, and Strike teams will be decided by the RNG and depending on the numbers, we'll have to limit player participation to no more than two teams. There's no limit for characters/businesses/dwellings being sucked into the void, we only ask you sign up so we can see the numbers in advance!
Sign-ups end Wednesday, July 28th at 11pm PST.
Once you're signed up, you'll hear from us ASAP where you're going, and what will be expected of you, including a more elaborate time line.

Questions/Comments
Re: Questions/Comments
Will the businesses/residences being sucked into the void be a sudden, all at once thing, or will it be a thing where they go at different times?
Say, for instance, would it be possible for a character to go out to pick up their morning paper, turn around, and they no longer have a home to enter?
