Fall 2010 Class Sign Ups!!

New kids, new teachers, and a new semester can mean only one thing: time to sign up for the 2010 Fall Semester Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while we put up the OCD!

Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

"PC" classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the conceptually newer "NPC" classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important and Interesting Part: Different from Summer!

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign him up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that. Also keep in mind the RNG is going to be tight this term.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer get the spot).

b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.

c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.

d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion. Teacher's pantsize is subject to change based on the type of doughnuts in the lounge. Fair warning.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

Your Spring 2010 Class Schedule

Class sign-ups close at 11:59 Eastern on August 28, 2010 (that's 8:59PM 8/28 Pacific and 4:59AM 8/29 for GMT/UTC). No late sign-ups are allowed without extenuating circumstances or proper arrangements (so sign up early in case something comes up). If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait for the next semester to play, and that's a long wait.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices so long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs.

Questions or difficulties, please email us - administration(@)fandomhigh.net - or drop a question in the Questions thread down below. All questions about things not related to class will, however, incur a nudity fee for answering.

This class is focused on providing a broad overview of various types of personal weapons. We'll look at everything from knives to bows to guns to weird future technology. If you can carry it yourself and use it to fight with, we'll be examining it. We won't delve into any single weapon in detail, so don't expect to leave the class as an expert with a specific weapon, but chances are you'll learn at least one thing you didn't know before, no matter how experienced you are.

People you know will wake up the wrong gender on occasion, the squirrels are watching you, and, of course, the Island is going to be invaded. Sometimes, these invasions are perfectly harmless, and even fun. Sometimes, they're potentially dangerous, but easy enough to avoid. And sometimes... Sometimes, it's the end of the world all over again. This course will help build the foundations that students will need in order to meet these invasions head-on and come out the other end in more-or-less one piece, whether they're lovers, fighters, researchers, or just plain chickenshit.

As simple as these actions appear on the surface, there's more going on here than a bare recitation of facts. Literature is filled with common tropes and symbols that hint at what's going on below the level of the words. This class will help students learn, understand, and unpack symbolic meaning found in literature.

The Mathematics of Quantum Neutrino Fields is a complex study of the diverse mathematical principals that dictate the physics and philosophy of quantum neutrino fields. This course will investigate the specifications of these highly specialized phenomena on an intensive theoretical and practical basis. But, as Deepak Chopra taught us, Quantum Physics means anything can happen at any time for no reason. Also, eat plenty of oatmeal and animals never had a war. Who's the real animals? Blah blah blah, so on and so forth, hopefully last semester was enough to make you people realize you shouldn't take this class.

Note: This is a 2-hour class but only satisfies one of the two required courses a semester.

This class will, as the title says, focus on famous shipwrecks of the deep. These wrecks are from all different times in maritime history. Most, if not all, are well known to historians and marine scientists and will be discussed (and experienced) at length. Each class will focus on individual wrecks, such as the Titanic, the Mary Celeste and the Lusitania. Some wrecks' causes are, still to this day, unexplained. See if you can come up with a theory as to why the ships met the fate they did. It'll be fun to see what you come up with.

Students will discover how the method of tracking animals in the wild can translate into tracking animals in cities and towns, or learn how to adapt wilderness tracking to successful urban tracking techniques. Various types of animals of both environments will be discussed, as well as survival useful techniques, handy weapons and common threats.

In this class, we're going to make sure to avoid the don't part of that equations. From everything from building to breaking down, historical to recent uses, you've got yourself a bona fide expert to lead you through it so that you, unlike some, can hopefully keep all your limbs in tact while blowing things up and learning about things that go boom.

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC classes. (Those things you were just signing up for in all those threads above this.)

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC class rosters, once sign-ups are over. After, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

Meaning, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
