2011 SUMMER (SESSION 1) WORKSHOP SIGN-UPS

Yes folks, it's time once again to sign up for workshops, for the first summer session of 2011! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while we put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) "PC" workshops are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the conceptually newer "NPC" classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Workshops

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC workshops. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC workshops, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 workshops. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any workshops that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one workshop, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).

b. Student characters played by the teacher of the workshop will also get ousted.

c. Students who have already taken the same workshop from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.

d. If the workshop still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.
3) If you're a TA for a workshop, you need to sign up for that workshop. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a workshop but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your workshops, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Workshop descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in workshops will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

Remember, we won't be taking any signups for community center classes - anyone is welcome to attend those!

FH workshop sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on May 4th, 2011. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or proper arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait for the next semester to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Many of us toss around words like 'destiny' and 'fate' on a regular basis, but how many of us actually understand what having a destiny means? Come study the differences between destiny, fate, prophecy, and predestination, as we look at the different ways they impact our lives. This is a survey course, and should not be considered an in-depth approach, but rather as an introduction to the topic of destiny and self-determination.

While previous students are welcome, please be aware that the syllabus will be much the same as before, although there is always more to gain with the insight you've gained in the last year.

The world has a few heroes, but what it has more of is people supporting those heroes. They may be better equipped to save the world for whatever reason, but from time to time, they're going to need help. This workshop will help students figure out the best ways to do that, whether it be researching, providing temporary medical aid, talking the hero out of doing something incredibly stupid that will get them killed or at the very least in serious trouble, and when rule-breaking might be appropriate (and when it isn't), to start.

Wednesday : Period 1 : How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse : Ohio

When the apocalypse comes and all your family and friends have been reduced to mindless flesh eating monsters, there are certain rules and techniques one person can use for survival. Every week the student will be put in a simulation of a zombie attack and graded on their ability to surprise. Extra credit will be provided for the "Zombie Kill Of The Week."

Twinkies will be provided for those students who go above and beyond.

Forget the Bowdlerized and Disney versions of the fairy tales you know. The original stories were much darker and grittier. They were intended to be lessons for the youth, to teach social mores and the consequences of straying from the accepted path. This class will read the older versions of the tales and discuss what lessons were being taught and why society decreed they needed to be sanitized.

NPC Class Requests

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC wokshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
