exactlyaverage's name came from an episode in Eureka where Jack's daughter was fretting about her recent IQ test that she took. Jack then responded how he took one in high school and got 111 without breaking a sweat and bragged how he got "better than 100%" on his first try.

After he got a bunch of strange looks he looked up his IQ score and discovered he was "exactly average."

I give full props to Claudia-Mun for coming up with the handle for me. I was at a complete loss at the time.

old_and_busted was an easy choice and decription from MIB2 where J was trying to convince K that he couldn't drive a car because he was the "New Hotness" and K was "Old and Busted."

The argument didn't work but I found it to be a perfect handle and easily recognizable.

Waffles are a running gag in Bryan Q. Miller's Batgirl volume 3 run starring Steph (which has been consistently well-reviewed and selling well and only has two issues to go before it's banished into obscurity by this STUPID STUPID RELAUNCH CRAP ARGH YES FEEL FREE TO WTF WITH ME); according to Steph it's her mom's new way of bonding with her when she comes home from the night shift at the hospital.

But waffles show up in every issue: if it's not Steph and her mom eating them, it's Barbara Gordon, or Steph and Damian, or somebody. There's always waffles.

And in the running gag of Bat-everythings, I thought it'd be a funny journal name.

I also realized, after I'd created it, that it's fitting for Steph despite the fact that at FH she's coming from well before the point in time where she's Batgirl -- she started out as a vigilante just to stop her dad from pulling off a big heist, and kept swearing she'd give it up after one more fight. And kept not giving it up.

Which is how she ends up becoming Batgirl, actually.

So, y'know, she kind of waffles on that.

whitequeensfire because at the point I pulled Angelica from, she's being groomed to be personal assassin for the White Queen, aka Emma Frost, and because she throws fire. (...I do not have a type. Shut up.)

trigons_child because Raven was supposed to be the only child of Trigon the Terrible. Until DC retconned her six brothers into existence and decided to make them embodiments of the Seven Deadly Sins. Oh, canon.

likesscoundrels because Leia likes scoundrels, duh. ;)

redheadbabyvamp for Jessica because, well, she is.

demonbelthazor because...his name is Belthazor and he's a demon. So original it BURNS.

blessed_twice because Wyatt's birth was prophesied with "When three planets burn as one over a sky of dancing light, and magic will rest for a holy day to welcome a twice-blessed child," which foretold Wyatt would be the most powerful magical being ever to walk the Earth. And an ego to match.

auntie_vida because vida's like everybody's auntie, pumpkins.

Because even I occasionally look at this username and wonder what it has to do with the Baby-Sitters' Club, yes, it's "Ancient BS Champ." Because when she has to talk her way out of a situation, Gabrielle is totally full of crap -- she'll make up the most outrageous stuff to suit her purposes if it'll get her out of trouble, and up until recently had a horrible, horrible habit of embellishing whenever she wrote down stories about her adventures with Xena. Full-blown purple prose stuff.

But she's really, really good at being full of crap, and as far as talking her way out of trouble, it works as often as it gets her into more trouble, so the "champ" is partly serious and partly sarcastic.

bridge_carson - Um. I didn't even put this one here at first because, well, it's his name. Not hard to figure out the reasoning behind that. But now I'm putting it here anyway.

longislandiceme - He's from Long Island, he makes ice. Nuff said.

shagthis - Because Jake likes to use "shag" as profanity. Ladies, feel free to take it as an imperative, though ;)

faithandscience - The two most important things in William's life. That it's possible they contradict each other sometimes is something he chooses to ignore most of the time.

godgavemecable - "If god hooks you up with free cable, you gotta think he expects you to do a little surfing." A quote from the first episode regarding Toby's opinion of his telepathy, modified slightly to fit LJ-name character limits.

withasword is part of a canon quote that amuses me.

"I frowned at the parcel. It lay on the grimy landing before my new door — the old one had to be replaced when a demon burst through it. I'd built a bit of a reputation in the neighborhood as that crazy bitch with a sword who lives in 32B, an image I carefully cultivated, but even so, an unattended parcel should have been pilfered within seconds of hitting the ground.

Maybe it was booby-trapped.

Wesley's username came from an exchange between Wesley and Gunn in the Angel episode "Redefinition":

Gunn: Was one of his directives "Hire pansy-ass British guy?"
Wesley: My arse is not pansy!

So, you know, wesleynotpansy, but then I thokught of how Pansy can be a name, so I changed it to

wesleynotponcy. Definitely not because I just remembered the dialogue wrong. Nuh-uh.

Well, Topher's from Dollhouse, where he programs "dolls" to assume various tasks, and the technology that he invents ends up causing the apocalypse. Toward the end of the show, he wonders whether he should call it the thoughtpocalypse or the brainpocalypse, saying that he should get to name it since he caused it in the first place.

And I just went with

dollpocalypse because I think it rolls off the tongue better. Sorry, Topher.

Never mind that one of the descriptions of her in Fate of the Jedi says that she's tall -- all through the New Jedi Order books, which is the appropriate time period anyway, it gets repeatedly emphasized that Tahiri is short. Like gratuitous mentions of her feet not touching the floor when she sits in a chair short, with a very slender build, etc. She's tiny.

And raised by the Sand People (which is an aspect of her personality that got forgotten a lot, so I kind of wanted to highlight that). It's pretty self-explanatory.

annieadderall- High school nickname, guess why! There's a little sing songy taunt that goes with it and makes her look sad. I have no idea how this name was not taken.

smartestone- This was me being uncreative as every. single. username. I could think of was already taken by the time I made the journal. Hermione's the brightest witch in her class, but since variations on that were taken, I gave up and went with this.

solo_sword- Used to be trickster-twin because in the NJO, the Vong had associated Jacen and Jaina with their slayer and trickster gods and guess which one she was. But after the NJO that wasn't applicable anymore so I changed it because she's the Sword of the Jedi and I like alliteration, basically.

I really like turning bits of quotes into usernames and Bod's might be one of my favorites. The Graveyard Book ends with this line:

But between now and then, there was life; and Bod walked into it with his heart and his eyes wide open.

I adore that line so much so pulling a username from it was natural. I've actually thought about changing it to nimeni but yeah, still can't part with this one.

Miley's is easy; it's just lyrics from a song she writes in the Hannah Montana movie. A song that went on to be so overplayed IRL that I believe it was my ringtone at one point. Don't hate.

Neal's is also easy. You know, 'cause he's a thief and he's charming. NBD.

Percy's was originally h20halfblood which I liked but man, I used to mess up the spelling so much. In the end, going with the naming scheme

trickydemigod had already setup was too much to resist.

In the books, Percy's nickname (coined by Annabeth) is Seaweed Brain (because Percy ain't so smart, you see) so I pulled part of that and added it onto demigod and there we go.

Caroline is

puppywithatutu because during a rousing game of Pictionary (do not ask why she was playing Pictionary with old people), Caroline shouts out "Puppy with a tutu!" in response to Damon's attempt at conveying the film Dances With Wolves. The conman half is easy. Cassel's entire family are a bunch of cons and thieves and hitmen for the mob and he's learned to be a nice conman himself.

The curse part is because in Cassel's universe the people who have powers are known as "curse workers". They can curse people with a touch of their hand and get cursed in return when they use their powers.

So he's a cursed conman.

In the first book, Firekeeper decided to leave the wolf pack she was raised by to go live with humans. There she was adopted by Norvin Norwood, Earl of House Kestrel (because he wanted to pass her off as his dead niece in order to make a bid for the throne, not because he's the kind of guy who just adopts random orphans). So, she's part of House Kestrel and she's a wolf, making her the Kestrel's wolf.

... Even if she'd bristle a lot at the idea of "belonging" to anyone.

Nathan's is very, very crude but it's only crude if you know what it means. So, if you're really interested, this (www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-WUBrH9RTo) (I hope since I'm just grabbing the link from Google and can't access YT at work) will explain what tripledmyself means. It's NWS but it's Nathan being Nathan and not even really the worst thing Misfits has ever done.

hurtingzeebo was nearly a couple of other things, the most prominent of which being "bornonabus", since . . . she was born on a bus (her mom's not real good at planning things). But then I remembered the bit from the episode where iCarly gets produced for a tv station and they get a talking dinosaur named "Zeebo" added to the cast, and Sam beats said dinosaur to the floor with a boom mic while the dinosaur shouts "hurting Zeebo, hurting Zeebo!"

And, well. . . . Yeah.

gastronomistic (who will be arriving on island this weekend I swear) has a PhD in molecular gastronomy and an almost magical ability to cook anything. Also, "urgetobaste" was definitely going to trip me up more.

rocksthescarf is because back in the day when Chuck first showed up to Fandom he constantly wore what was known as his trademark scarf. He gave it up during his senior year though 'cause that's what the show did.

As usernames go this one is not my wittiest, I suspect, especially considering I also own

Look, I don't have a whole lot of quotable material or that many canon things to refer to that make good usernames. But, y'know. Kennedy is a self-proclaimed brat, and she is in training, so it was apropos if boring, and also it matched

life_inshadow's username. Which was not intentional, but I think accidental themes are amusing.

endsthegame and

lockestheway are the insanely pretentious ones that I picked because the names have a myriad of meanings; I went with Peter's this way because I do love a good scheme. His alter ego on the internet is Locke, Locke winds up defining how the future goes, ie he 'locks the way' and, Peter always feels his way is the right way, IE Locke's the way. /nerd

I had the hardest time coming up with a username for Alistair (

ofthe_wilds encouraged options such as 'licks_lampposts'). This is a simplified version of how he describes himself in the game at one point; "That's what I'm here for. To deliver unpleasant news and witty one-liners."

Considering the crap he gets into and the constant joking around, it fits.

When don't I encourage options such as licking lampposts?
