BDE: Your Very Special SpecCol Weekend!
Hello, folks!
As of noon tomorrow, those of you who are still alive will all be living in Special Collections, following some smart planning by our principal and librarian! Congratulations. Well, sort of. Special Collections is not the world's most straightforward place, and so we've written up a couple of guidelines.
1. Base Camp! Fandomites will be striking down in the safest place they can find in the library. This happens to be in the midst of a large colony of giant toadstools. At least you'll have a lot of shade? Some tents will be provided by Special Collections (it's so thoughtful!) that you can set up wherever you like. Strewn throughout the toadstool camp will also be some random bookcases, which you can use for a) books or b) privacy by hiding behind them. As you do.
2. The Rest of The Place Special Collections follows its own rules. It can randomly whisk any individual off into any realm of its choosing, send you on a wild goosechase, or circle you right around back to camp. There's no logic to it besides 'whatever you think is fun', though we'll be providing a few possible scenarios (and NPCs for anyone wanting them) for you to play with. You can also come up with your own scenarios!
3. Well, If They Fit These Guidelines Special Collections is a place of fiction. That means that any realm you walk into must be from a book, game or movie that could possibly be stored within Special Collections. It will NOT be transporting you to any other dimensions. Any place you go to lies within Special Collections, and is hence a fictionalized account from an IN-GAME (non-)fiction book, game or movie (that work can be from your own character's universe, another character's universe (though if you do this, check with the player first) or another work from any other universe, as long as it's plausible it would be in SpecCol in book-, movie or game-form.)
How it works is like this: The Animarium is a supposedly-mythical flying island in the PRverse. There's canonically a book about the legend. That book could've been filed in SC if a nebulous handwavy someone decided it was knowledge that *shouldn't* be easily accessible. Therefore, people wandering around SC might come across a *fictionalised* version of the Animarium- but whatever they do in there wouldn't affect the actual, real-world version (which of course may or may not still exist at that point thanks to the Nothing).
On the other hand, folks wandering around wouldn't end up in the Angel Grove Youth Center/Gym/Juice Bar. Because why would a book on that be in SC?
Likewise, you might be able to enter a fictionalised account of Ender Wiggin's life where he Suffered Harshly but Was Comrades With The Boys, and Battle School was a merry place with squeaky-clean halls, as written in the history on Battle School within Special Collections. You would not, however, be entering Ender's actual world, nor would anything you do have any effect on Ender's real world.
4. When In Doubt, Ask Us We're always willing to provide NPCs, advice, or suggestions! So feel free to hit us up over the weekend, and we'll see how we can help you.
Sunday Night Everyone in Special Collections will be whisked off to where the finale team is, and the solution will be revealed. Dun dun dun duuuuuun.
