Brainstorming for Umbridgeverse!

Who wants to storm some brains? You guys? YOU GUYS!

This is where you can all throw things out there in order to set up a past for your characters in this wild, new frontier.

A few admin positions are set (Peter and Ender Wiggin are part of the organising committee of the resistance, Umbridge with the... well, with Umbridge, Anakin Skywalker is dead, Bo is one of her main leather-clad henchwomen, Deadpool is a slightly less leather-clad henchwoman... Zoe Winchester's in detention...) and there are Umbridge's rules (no co-ed rooms, no public affection, enforced personal space of four inches (NO TOUCHING), random dorm inspections, and there's a curfew) as well as an official Umbridge radio channel (bringing you daily motivational messages as well as information) and an underground paper.

Remember: Magic needs to be kept on the down low unless you're a member of the Umbridge posse! Unsupervised magic is verboden, folks!

Now, get your OCD-laden storm of brains on.

Hokay, so Cara is sexily goon squading while sekritly working for the resistance instead, which means she will be getting her scary, scary Mord'Sith on.

After spending over half her life being very, very good at torturing people and bending them to her will for the sake of a crazed tyrant, including ferreting out traitors in the ranks, when she ended up in Fandom and realised that Richard had made even more of a terrible mistake by sending her away and she was facing the prospect of more of the same under Umbridge, she pretty much went 'fuck that noise' and decided to use her mad skills to do the exact opposite.

So basically, she goes around making sure the plebs are properly intimidated, while in actualfax running interference and doing her best to cover for slip ups and people who don't know when to choose their battles and keep their freaking heads down. If someone manages to get themselves caught doing un-Umbridgely things, she can "teach them the error of their ways" or "discover they know nothing useful" by administering a interrogation/beating that'll leave them impressively bruised, battered and bloody, but actually far less painful than it looks like.

She's keeping mum about a) the fact she can capture magic that's cast against her and use it on it's owner in order to have an ace if she ever needs to exit stage left in a hurry (I'm open to playing with that) and b) that she can revive the recently deceased(within plot dictated limits) with the Breath of Life, you know, in case anyone needs to have faked their death for any reason.

And she has absolutely no qualms about killing people, so if anyone wants their loyalists character to suffer/have suffered an unfortunate "accident" because they got too close to the truth, she can do that.

An Anakin-less Raven is a sad sad thing. She never learned to shield herself and control her powers better, so between being overwhelmed by the emotions around her and her father constantly whispering in her ear, she went stark raving mad. (She's still struggling for control so she's been Imperio'd to keep her in line.) Essentially she's addicted to emotions and loves to screw with people with her powers so she can nom on their feelings. Mmmmmm.

Anyone want to be past/current victims? :)

Seely never learnt to stop poking the crazy on the radio and he got himself killed as an object lesson pretty damn quickly. It was showy, painful, and horrible. The squirrels poured one out for him after.

Zack Addy got himself Imperio'ed into lackeyship, until one day he managed to "accidentally" cause a lab explosion and take himself out. :(

In a case of fled, rather than dead, Ares bugged out soon after Umbridge took over, since the island wasn't fun anymore, and took anyone who wanted to go with pretty much just to spite her (plus he needed some spare hands to spruce up his temples).

Gwen Cooper came at roughly the same time she did in the real universe, joined the resistance, and in true Torchwood Three fashion was eventually killed an a tragic, heroic, and possibly worthless manner.

A student back when Umbridge was just a temporary substitute, Jo can remember the good, old days when Zoe was still principal and the only thing you really had to worry about was gremlin bites.

She's been in the underground for as long as there's been an underground and dreams of they day they finally smash those freaky kitten plates.

Yeah, so Calvin being Calvin was pretty much uncontrollable, irrepressible etc, until Umbridge, or someone on her goon squad did the Worst. Possible. Thing. and cut up Hobbes into bitty plush tiger pieces. Which resulted in Calvin losing what little contact he had with reality and he's kinda crazy and broken.

Basically what I need is for someone in detention to have taken pity on the poor lad and have sewn Hobbes back together for him. Actual sewing skills not necessarily required.

Jack acted as a double-agent for the resistance when he was a student, and was good enough at it not to get killed. After he graduated, he did the sensible thing and went home immediately. Viva la revolucion, and all, but he also wanted to live to fight another day.

Timelines being what they are, he still got bitten by a werewolf 18 months or so after graduation. He back came to the island in the desperate hope someone would have a cure. He forgot to calculate for a time difference between his world and Fandom, arrived during the full moon ... and was promptly snapped up and put in detention. He's relatively sane and together for a detainee -- he's been through worse -- but that may not last long.

Just spitballing here for Jamie:

In another well-known Marvel AU, Jamie was genetically altered and twisted to create the "Madri" which was a bunch of hatred-spouting religious madmen devoted to Apocalypse.

Thought it might be interesting to have a bunch of Umbridge worshipping duplicates with a mentally destroyed Jamie holed up in a certain tower somewhere.

Madri would be moddable of course.

Kaidan... got to Fandom and immediately got his ass manipulated (and maybe Imperio'd, but he doesn't remember that). He's on one of Umbridge's goon squads and does regular patrols for, say, people trying to flee the island.

Funnily enough, time with Umbridge has not been kind to his survivor's guilt and other assorted issues in the wake of Shepard's death, and he hasn't reported back to the Alliance in weeks.

In the Titans of Tomorrow arc, future!Raven, calling herself "Dark Raven" (and in my head canon it was Kon who named her that because really?), was eating the emotions of everyone west of the Rockies to keep them passive and in line. In the name of protecting humanity. Right.

Anyway, just putting that out there in case anyone needs a reason their character has been kept in line, or maybe it's been done to the island in the past, or Umbridge could hold that as a threat if people don't behave she'll make them behave. :)

Matt and Jack are going to be part of the resistance. Matt's powers will be a secret to the public at large but not to the members of resistance.

For Bruce... Well I think he's going to have to be in detention with some sort of spell that keeps him either ridiculously cheerful or mellow so he can't transform into the Hulk.

Re: Spare Parts!

[identity profile] multi-madrox.livejournal.com 2012-07-16 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo. Just posted this above but: How about Raven being able to keep Bruce in a nice mellow or cheerful state so he can't hulk out?

Two Wiggins for the price of one!

Ender and Peter both turned their ridiculous 100% intent focusing ability on busting not just themselves, but everyone else out of Umbridge's hold-- Ender saving Peter from Imperio'ing shortly into his stay here.

Neither of them have been able to reach their home dimension in years, which has done a fair bit to motivate Peter to turn his crazy-ass focus onto the resistance. They both do a fair bit in organizing and planning attacks and coordinating safehouses (so if you want a rationale for your character to have managed to go underground, feel free to call the guys in) and resources.

Peter doesn't care much about the lives of the loyalists. Ender's more discerning, and is about to start securing people he considers 'redeemable' in anticipation of a potential final push.

Liara arrived at Fandom and promptly ran into a rather menacing goon squad. She tried to take them out with biotics. They threw her in Detention.

She's been there since, awkwardly trying to make people feel better like the dork she is.

Ender's philosophy class is going to be without a teacher. I could handle it myself, but since Kerrigan isn't the world's most natural choice for that position, I figured I'd ask and see if anyone was interested in taking it over for a week!

April was so not down with the authority thing, but the Resistance never appealed to her as a survival strategy, so she managed to stay pretty neutral for a while. Then someone tried Imperioing her, and because it didn't work -- April has some pretty crazy willpower -- she was suspected of hiding powers and got her ass thrown in detention.

Thing is, she's bored, but not really miserable there. She's thinking of starting a band.

Romeo charged into a situation he didn't quite understand and got killed, basically because his need to play the hero annoyed the wrong person. (If anyone specifically wants to be this wrong person, go for it.)

Of my other past characters, most just never made it to the island. The exceptions are:
  • Tyler Durden suffered an impressive mental breakdown early on -- "Tyler" took a leadership role in the rebellion while the Jack personality did his best to keep his head down and seem loyal. This was very confusing for everyone else, yes. Eventually he got caught trying to bomb Umbridge's office and was summarily executed, thus at least ending the confusion.
  • Didi was in the resistance in a low-key way, and died of natural causes after about a year on the island. It was quite similar to her arc in reality.
  • Quinn was a loyalist, and a snitch and a suck-up of one to boot. She had some secret weaknesses for the resistance, but not enough to risk her own neck. She is alive, well, and off the island now.

Any of the above are up for use in your own backstories.
