Spring 2013 Class Sign Ups!!

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your spring 2013 classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while we put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) "PC" classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the conceptually newer "NPC" classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

The Spring 2013 Class Schedule!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on December 30th. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or proper arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait for the next semester to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Contrary to popular belief, there has never been a single united feminism. There have been multiple feminisms representing the efforts of women to live into their full humanity in a world shaped by and for the male half of the human species.

To the extent that there is a capital-F Feminism that has dominated the history of feminist thought, it tends to correspond with the goals of the upper-class heterosexual white women who have traditionally been given, and still tend to have, disproportionate power to spread their message--but the movement is so much more than that.

This class will do its best in the limited time-frame of a semester to take a look at the American Feminist Movement and its history, acknowledging both its highlights and its darker moments.

Males and male-identified students are, of course, more than welcome, as this will be a safe space. However, derailing will not be tolerated, and we will be discussing any privilege as it arises, no matter the student's gender-identity.

You could be the smartest kid in the class (and probably are!) but when the television lights and cameras come on, even the best of us, like my friend Sam, can end up saying some stupid things on national television.
This class will be a combination of honing your debating skills, learning to recite talking points so they don't sound like talking points, and generally basking in the glow of a former Chief of Staff to the most powerful man on the planet.

(There would be classes of debates, classes of planned speeches, classes of extemporaneous speeches, and times where Josh would make them watch people fight on TV and tell them how stupid both sides are.)

Food is important. Knowing how to prepare food is even more important. Knowing how to prepare edible food is most important of all. Taking advantage of Fandom's multidimensional nexus and diverse population, this class will cover both the basics of cookery, but also a number of wide-ranging dishes from throughout the known universes. Including cake (and pie).

Monsters, spirits and things that go bump in the night are common in legends across many universes. Sometimes, those stories are even true. In this class, students will read stories about and learn common characteristics of ghosts, pixies, vampires and other supernatural creatures, and discuss what to do as a human or as another supernatural being if and when you encounter them.

Through interactive simulations and class discussions, students will get to make choices and realize the consequences before, hypothetically, graduating from Fandom, going back to their home dimensions, and screwing everything up.

Like it or not, you're a student on Fandom Island. This means that you'll get to deal with everything that goes hand-in-hand with Fandom life, including sudden and unexpected gender bending, gremlin bites, and that one unpredictable setback; the major invasion. The end-of-the-world event. Goblin kings, giant turtle-oxen, evil witches with an affinity for kitten plates. Assuming you'll be sticking around the island for a while, you're liable to see at least one or two major would-be disasters. And, while they're always different in nature, basic survival strategies can be put to use to increase your chances of seeing the worst through and coming out in one piece. This class will aim to help students think coolly in these situations, to see them through to the end, hopefully with minimum trauma along the way.

Everyone has something they're good at, but if you've ever felt like what you're good at just isn't that important, then this might be the class for you. Students will be given a safe, non-judgemental place to work on "mundane" skills, and maybe pick up a new trick or two along the way. Class topics will include self defense (because there's just never enough of that around here), communication and working with others (and how to not feel bad when they're better/faster/stronger than you), and how to follow your instincts (a.k.a. why you don't always have to do what your superiors want... unless it might get you sent to Siberia for six months).

Note: This class is designed for students without special abilities. Students with powers are certainly welcome to sign up, but will be expected to keep their abilities in check as much as possible.

Come learn the basics of improvisational theater in this fun weekly workshop. Class will feature games that illustrate basic improv techniques. Suitable for beginners and lifelong actors alike!

[CC classes are open to all students/teachers/townies, but unlike classes, signing up doesn't mean you're obligated to attend every session. It's just to give those who are running the class an idea of who's interested for planning purposes.]

NPC Class Requests

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC wokshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
