Summer Session 1 Workshop Sign Ups!

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your first session Summer 2013 workshops! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while we put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) "PC" classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the conceptually newer "NPC" classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

And now we get to what you really want to see: The 1st Session Summer Workshops

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on May 6th. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or proper arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait for the next semester to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. It's easy working with technology when you're not in a real time crunch. Out on the field, however, you might find yourself in situations where a piece of technology can and will save your life. This class looks at the best ways to use technology while you're being shot at, and offers a few tips and tricks on making something that might save your life on the fly.

TUES: Period 2: First Aid & Basic Medicine (Banner)

Many Fandom students are accustomed to being in dangerous situations. Through lecture and demonstrations, this course will show students the basics of how to properly bandage wounds, tend to breaks, sprains and strains, take care of burns and perform CPR. To maximize relevance to Fandom's diverse student body, techniques will apply not only to human patients but others as well. At the end of the course, students will be tested on their ability to apply the course material while under pressure.

The Game. A con, a scam, a grift, a hustle, a bunko, a swindle, a flimflam, a gaffle or a bamboozle. When life gives you suckers, of course you make lemonade.

A confidence artist - or con artist - is someone who exploits characteristics of the human psyche such as dishonesty, honesty, vanity, compassion, credulity, irresponsibility, naïveté, or greed.

In other words, 90% of humanity is a con artist. But not necessarily good ones.

Whether you're looking to play the game or want to learn how not to end up as the mark, this class will look at famous con men (and women) and their games, to see how and why they work.

NOTE: Due to the lack of verbal filter, any class with John Constantine should be considered PG-13 on a regular basis, due to swearing. You are warned.

WED: Period 2: How to Be One With Your City (The Spirit)

Do you live in a city? Do you want to be of use to your city? Take this workshop and learn how you can become one with your city, keeping her safe so she can care for you in return. Lessons will include such things as undetected movement, spotting potential evildoers, and weaponizing your surroundings.

(Lessons can also be applied to smaller towns, in case you actually don't live in a city.)

A primer on dealing with the things that go bump in the night. Odds are it wants to eat you, or wear you as a meat-suit, so listen up on how to kill them before they kill you.

(Or differentiate between things that might want to kill you and things that just want to live their life on a nice island of other weird people.)

But how can you refine it and look like the you you want to look like when you have a limited budget, or the clothes don't fit, or they're just not available in stores in this galaxy/time period/alternate universe? This workshop will help you figure it out!

FRI: Period 1: Advanced Survivalism (Batman)

There are countless dangers out there in the world. At any given moment you may have to deal with problems ranging from being on an airplane without any fuel to bear attacks to being stranded on a desert island. Fandom only makes these situations more likely.

Through a combination of Danger Shop simulations and 'practical' lessons, this class will teach you how to live, thrive, and survive the worst the world has to offer. Expect to fight a fellow classmate at least once. Expect to be shocked by something the teacher does multiple times.

NPC Class Requests

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
