FALL 2013 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Fall 2013 classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

And now we get to what you really want to see: The Fall Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on August 29th. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or prior arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait until 2014 to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Because whether you're from another planet, from the past, from the future, from now but still need to learn some things (this means you), etc. you probably want to know how things got to be the way they are, right? Right.

This class will help students hone whatever combat talents they have to work towards being a well-oiled squad. In addition to plentiful fight practice, topics discussed will include how to accept a supporting role without feeling insulted; how to work with your commander even when you think s/he's being a jerk; and how to share small quarters with people you don't like much without blowing anything up.

The world is filled with MANY magical creatures! Some of them are for BUTTKICKING, but most of them are for CARING...for. In this class, I, MINSC, BUTTKICKER FOR GOODNESS, (with the help of the great and knowledgeable giant miniature space hamster BOO!) will show you all about many magical creatures and how to care for them. It is very easy, and you will like it, or else why would you be taking this class? We will probably talk about the unicorns and the dragons and the pixies and the goblins, but probably not the dirty stinking gnolls, because they are dirty stinking gnolls and definitely for buttkicking.

So, are you ready for ADVENTURE? Are you ready for MAGICAL CREATURES? LET'S GO!

Classes will include in depth discussions of engineering time travel devices, nearly impervious force fields, and dimensional travel. You shall not understand the lessons fully, but you will learn more than you have in any previous instruction.

Knowing how to defend yourself can come in handy in a lot of situations like fighting giant aliens inside giant robots. This class will focus on the practical and will allow for a wide variety of skill sets and levels of experience.

Using the classic text "The Art of War", we will focus on the different P'ien, and examine how they can relate to personal, professional, and tactical situations. No matter if the enemy is a business rival, a romantic conquest, or an invading army, the principles behind the analytical thinking of Sun Tsu remain the same, and can be applied to almost any situation.

Sometimes you'll need to break stuff, maybe to get out of a sticky situation, maybe to make a point, maybe just because you're bored. Or maybe you need to figure out how different materials work. Or you just need a safe environment to vent in. Who knows. In this mostly Danger Shop set class, you will learn all about breaking things, whether it's by pushing vases off of end tables or by crushing metal things in a junkyard. Students' wishes on session topics will be taken into consideration.

The expressive nature of the human face is a wonderful thing, so too is the ability to keep your thoughts and feelings from showing on it. Utilising a series of practical exercises, students will not only to hide unwanted expressions but also to display wanted ones (as well as other skills like risk management, practical mathematics, the intersection of probability and luck, and fiscal responsibility).

Just like it says on the tin, in this class Jono will be introducing students to live entertainment and performing arts of many varieties, from music to sports to theatre to dance, through live demonstrations. That is to say, he'll be taking students to concerts, the ballet, football games, plays, and so on, both on actual field trips off the island (thank goodness for Portalocity), and Danger Shop simulations. By the end of the semester, students will have hopefully gained an appreciation for live entertainment of many varieties. Or at the very least they'll know how not to be 'that guy' in the crowd that gets escorted out or shushed by other audience members.

... Please don't be that guy, students.

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime; and the district attorneys, who prosecute the offenders. This class focuses on the roles those groups play, and how independent citizens can fill any gaps left in the system. We're mostly talking about vigilantism there.

NPC Class Requests

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
