SPRING 2014 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2014 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

And now we get to what you really want to see: The Spring Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on December 30th. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or prior arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait until 2014 to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Students will participate in a variety of team-based and individual performance sports, with a goal of ending the semester as stronger and healthier individuals than they were when they started out. Students at any level of fitness are welcome.

Last semester, the Batman taught you about the criminal justice system, how it worked, and how you could strengthen it from the outside. This semester, the Batman trains you to fight crime. You will be trained in combat strategy, rooftop cardio, and weapon development, along with anything else you might need when a crazed clown wants to murder you for standing between him and stolen goods.

It's tricky figuring out who you are and what you like as it is. It can be even trickier to express those things. This class should help you learn how to get your point across, hopefully without making people mad by doing it.

This class explores the basics and not so basics of the occult. It will give those who don't know a thing about the occult a basic primer and give those who know a lot about the occult, different viewpoints and opinions. You'll also get to play with a Ouija board during one class. Every kid's dream, right?

Using his extensive diplomatic experience and scenarios in the Danger Shop, Anakin will teach you how to not get killed when you deal with completely unreasonable, oftentimes heavily armed people and tiny creepy aliens with inexplicable Irish accents! (Aggressive negotiations will also be included.)

This class will explore ways to help you deal with your powers both through physical exercises and group discussion.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, especially when it comes to weapons. Armed and Dangerous aims to give students a basic yet thorough grounding in the use of a wide range of weaponry, covering not only how, but also when (or when not), to use them.

So You're Stranded on a Planet With Half a Med Kit and An Angry Gorn in Labor: Emergency Medical Situations

CPR certification, of course, which will hopefully not end with any of the practice dummies being destroyed. How to recognize and treat dehydration and malnourishment in hostile environments: picking out which plants are rich in water and nutrients. Bonus for students who get it correct is berry snacks. Student who chooses hemlock definitely gets an F. Treating major and minor burns and lacerations by wrapping your partner in gauze. Just the fun stuff.

Chemistry is the most basic of the sciences. Add a thing to some other thing, boom, you get an explosion. You'll learn about that and other, non-exploding (boring) things. And if you kids are really well behaved, we can have a movie day or two. Or three. Or twelve. Look, you'll learn something, okay? And maybe you'll get some life lessons about taking a punch or finding a good lawyer. It's all chemistry, really.

This class focuses on changes, no matter how extreme, that students might find overwhelming, and outlines coping strategies that might be employed in order to help students get back on with their lives.

Beginning grammar and vocabulary of Lithuanian. Hopefully, by the end of the class, attendees will be able to hold a simple conversation in Lithuanian. Grammar involved to be partially determined by attendees' interests. Food will be provided.

NPC Classes

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
