Meme: More than Meets the Eye

Between my meme-ish mood, BDE changes and the fact I can't find us having done this since August 2012, I say this meme is past due.

There are certain characteristics about the people we play that *we* know, but we get tired of repeating in every introductory ping. There's also stuff that players wouldn't really be able to figure out just looking at an icon--how tall someone is, if they have an accent, what kind of clothes they are wearing...and in some cases, if their eyes/hair/whatever are different than the PB we've picked.

So wax poetic about what your characters look/sound like, if they have tics or scars, if they have a distinct singing voice, etc!

YAY I LOVE THIS MEME.

15 years old. She'll be 16 in June.

Roughly 5'4" or so -- she's on the smaller side of average.

Slender, but if you're a very careful observer/stalky sort of person, she's put on weight since she came to Fandom.

Has a scar on her ring finger on her left hand. It looks like she was branded with a very hot ring...because she was.

Has long, curly brown hair, which she usually wears piled up at the back of her head unless narratived otherwise. (She's getting more lenient about it. We'll see.)

Aaaand big brown eyes. Canon just specifies that they're huge and "dark," so I'm going with the easy answer here. If asked, she actually thinks her eyes are her worst feature, but that's because she inherited them from her asshole dad.

Dresses, generally, like she fell out of the late 19th century (because, you know, she did.) That being said, she's wearing modern clothes more on the regular now (see spring break) and even has conjured herself an approximation of yoga pants when needed, and so on. She's starting to move away from her old-timey clothes, but unless narratived, assume she's wearing something high-necked with a skirt you could hide a litter of kittens in.

When she does dress more appropriate for 2014, she's pretty conservative -- still wearing dresses except that one time when she had to, ugh, go for a run, lots of bows and detailwork, etc.

Grew up in the northeastern US, though she traveled a lot, so IDEK what her accent is supposed to sound like. I'm going to say "standard American" and then just wait for nobodysbatman to come yell at me.

Has a low, soft voice, per canon.

Does not wear much jewelry, and I'm gonna say she doesn't have her ears pierced.

She is a total control freak and perfectionist. It applies to like, everything, but especially her magic. If she (a) doesn't get it right the first time, she will try again, but (b) she usually doesn't get it wrong in the first place, and will scrutinize her own work like crazy.

And finally, speaking of her magic, she tends to break things when she's angry/upset/feeling anything particularly strongly. Nothing too bad and she can always put it back together, but I'd like, watch your windows if you have bad news for her.

Okay.

• Pinkie currently has wings and a unicorn horn. I only have one icon to reflect this, so I figure it's worth mentioning.
• Speaking of things that aren't in every icon: her cutie mark, two yellow balloons and one blue, is on both her flanks. This basically magically dictates her purpose and personality, so it's pretty important. (No, really, in one episode she accidentally ends up with Apple Jack's cutie mark and goes all bitter and depressed while trying to work an apple farm. My canon is special.)
• Her voice is pretty much exactly as high and squeaky as you think it is. When she's excited/scared, it gets even higher. When she's angry, she sounds like a chorus of demons.
• In my head, she smells like bubblegum and powdered sugar. This is pretty much the only thing I've had to create head canon for. Everything else is from the show.
• If she were human, she'd look like this. This has very little to do with the game, currently, I just enjoy the fact that I have a canon human AU.

Cheryl and/or Carol Tunt

I think I said she's 30 on my app? I mean, who knows. She could be 15. Or 75. Archer doesn't really rule anything out.

Like 5'5"ish? I think she's a little taller than Mallory but otherwise the shortest in the office. Everyone wears heels though so who even knows.

Has straight auburn hair that is almost always up in a bun on top of her head, and blue eyes. When she wears her hair down, it's shoulder-length and she has bangs (but she thinks they're stupid.)

Usually wears a pearl necklace. I'm really surprised no one's mentioned the office ladies' penchant for those on the show yet, considering they love making super-dirty references.

Is voiced by Judy Greer, so -- sort of nasal/whiny and almost Valley Girl-ish. Punctuates her speech with a lot of "likes" and tends to sound like a ditz.

Is usually under the influence. What she's on varies by the day but glue is usually a safe bet.

Tends to wear sweaters/blouses with knee-length skirts, and high heels. Very business casual.

Has an awesome singing voice...but only if no one's watching. Or if she's been brainwashed. (Oh my god, I cannot wait to play with new canon.)

Will often yell at people that they are not her supervisor if she disagrees with something they've told her, and is also very fond of saying that something is, "Just like the gypsy woman said." I have no effing idea who this gypsy woman is or when she apparently made all these prophecies about Cheryl's life, for the record. She just started saying that a couple seasons ago.

Legally, her name is Cheryl Tunt. However, Archer kept calling her Carol back in season one, so she had it legally changed to Carol, but I think she had it changed back. Everyone generally calls her Cheryl, but every now and then they'll throw a 'Carol' in there for fun. However, she has also gone by Cristal and Carina, and I have plans for a bunch more C-names down the road.

Is filthy rich and has no idea how to use her money well, so she has access to like, a helicopter or can ransom her friends for millions or whatever if needed.

Likes herself some sexy, sexy choking during sex, so she has no compunction about walking around with bruises on her neck, etc. She's also aroused by violence in general, and is sort of situationally pansexual -- if someone is being violent, she's attracted to them, regardless of gender. If she's not all starry-eyed at the sight of blood, though, she prefers dudes.

• Short but solid. I'd say 5'5" and 140 or so, mostly muscle. He's more self-conscious about his height than he wants people to know.
  
• Curly blond hair that he wears slightly long and slicked down. Bright blue eyes. Fair skin, like he doesn't spend a lot of time outside. (He doesn't.)
  
• BBC accent only slightly softened by his time in America. Canon says his voice is "light and flexible, with an upper-class snap." I'm bad at British to the point where I'm not sure what PB would represent that, but there you have it.
  
• If he's seriously off his game -- sick, tired, distressed -- he still has a hint of the Eastern European accent he's worked hard to eradicate it from his everyday speech. If you have Sherlock Holmesian powers of observation, you might be able to pick it up a trace of it the rest of the time.
  
• Dresses fashionably but simply. Lots of crisp buttoned shirts, black pants, tailored blazers, etc. He was raised to dress as a gentleman; the most casual thing you'll see him in outside his bedroom is a polo shirt.
  
• He has faded scars on his neck and thigh from vampire bites, and a slightly mangled patch of skin on his shoulder from the werewolf.

• Piercings: two per ear (lobe and helix, currently simple silver captive bead hoops), one labret (silver stud), two nasal (nostril and septum). He has a tiny scar from an eyebrow ring that he let heal over
• Tattoos: would you think less of me if I said I lost track? Let's see: tribal pattern on the side of his neck. Naval star on his shoulder. Cupcake and crossed kitchen utensils on his calf. Asian characters on the inside of his forearm. Tribal wave pattern on his ass. I'm 90% certain I'm missing one, but oh well.
• Unless otherwise noted, always has at least some facial hair. Currently mostly a scruffy almost-beard, occasionally a goatee.
• Likes to wear eyeliner, mostly just a little bit of black on his lower lid, but has been known to go all out
• Currently has undyed dark blond hair. The island insisted, and he's gotten used to the extra time he has in the morning when he's not spiking it into a mohawk.

• Tattoos: butterfly tramp stamp (she doesn't want to talk about it), cupcake and crossed kitchen utensils on her calf, tribal wave pattern on her breast
• Doesn't shave her legs
• Wears eyeliner even if she makes no other effort at getting dressed, that day
• Currently has undyed medium blonde hair, but has been known to do washable streaks when going out on the town.
• Had operatic voice lessons as a child, but sings only to herself in the shower

• Eleanor is tall. Most of the Big Sisters you encounter are stated to be 6'10". But Eleanor doesn't tower over her mother or the little girls, and she's shorter than Delta, so I figured she can't actually be 6'10" herself. I settled for putting her at 5'10" -- the tall side of average.

• She has a clipped British accent. She's voiced by Sarah Bolger, and you can hear some of her talking here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuH_ECX5okI) if you're curious.

• She bought her entire wardrobe at Demon Marcus, so aside from some pretty sundresses she was rocking during the trip to Bali, her clothes are usually, like, a pair of jeans and a nondescript sweater, or a pair of jeans and a nondescript blank t-shirt. Once she gets more money, she might actually start buying clothes for a sense of fashion and not, y'know, in bulk.

• She has the pale, underfed look of someone who's been kept locked away most of her life. She was born underwater, so she's entirely new to sun, and her mother kept her sedated for experiments, so she wasn't exactly knocking back three meals a day. She's starting to look healthier the longer she stays in Fandom.

• Is sometimes just plain awkward with her body -- not sure where to put her hands when she's talking to someone, not sure how much eye contact is okay, not sure if this is where she's supposed to shake hands or wave.

• Most of the icons have her hair right: it's a very blunt cut just above her shoulders. When she was little she had long twin braids. My head canon is that she lopped them off with a pair of scissors in a fit of spite against her mother.

• 16, with her 17th birthday ... wow, I need to actually pick a birthday for her. Well, it's not in January or February ...

-Brown hair, which is sometimes curly and mostly worn down.
-Brown/hazel eyes. They're described in stuff as hazel but colored as brown and the PB has hazel eyes so it's one of the two.
-5'6", and slender. She's spent a lot of years dancing and still has that build.
-21 years old, finally. She probably looks about her age.
-Is nearsighted and wears glasses sometimes.
-She's from Chicago but has lived in other places for years, so if she has an accent at all it probably shows up in flat vowels here and there.
-Her natural state is intangible, and she's solid basically through sheer force of will. My personal rule is, if you're trying to hurt her, she's probably not getting hit (tbh it's funnier), but if you're not, it's fine to touch her. She doesn't appear any different between the two states.
-She's mostly ditched the old black leather bar look and is a pretty casual dresser, big on jeans and t-shirts, though she's been known to rock the midriff once in a while.
-Has three piercings in each ear and a pierced bellybutton, and sometimes wears a Star of David necklace.

-Will be 17 in a couple months. I figure she looks her age but carries herself so that she seems older.
-About 5'5" and pretty much done growing.
-Has long brown hair with a white streak right up at the front of her hairline, despite the icons. She usually either leaves her hair down or pulls it half back.
-Brown eyes, also despite the icons.
-Has the Imperial symbol tattooed on her lower back.
-Dresses in the style from back home, which is pretty nice stuff, usually loose and easy to move in. If she's out on the mainland or whatever she'll put on a dress or something that she got here.
-Has a lightsaber (silver!) on her whenever she's able to carry it, but she tends to keep it concealed.
-It's probably impossible to shake the poise off of her.
-You know in Star Wars, when Leia's talking to Tarkin on the Death Star? That's about what I figure Sia's speech patterns are like.
-No discernible accent. Even though she's Imperial and I feel she should be British, apparently it doesn't work that way.
-Isn't a big smiler. She's not adverse to smiling, but it's not an automatic reaction to most things.
-She has a great glare, though.

Since I'm on lunch, I can squeeze this in for maybe one or two of my guys. So, Flick:

~ Is eighteen, going on nineteen. He has a late birthday and also doesn't really care if he's the oldest junior in the room.

~ Is oftentimes described as being 'beautiful' and 'very attractive' in his canon but does a lot to try and fix that (meaning he gets his ass kicked around a lot).

~ Carries most of his scars on his back and shoulders. He comes from an abusive family (specifically an abusive dad) and didn't escape unscathed.

~ Dark haired and dark eyed. Oftentimes looks grumpy or surly but that's just his regular, run of the mill expression.

~ Is from the Connectictut/New York area so his accent reflects as such. Nothing too fancy.

~ Very observant of his surroundings. He takes everything in, sizes things up and does it all with his eyes. Comes from being a thief.

~ Goes for casual clothes for the most part. Jeans, t-shirts, button up shirts, sweaters, hoodies. Nothing too fancy, once again.

~ Fairly tall but not a giant.

~ Curses fairly often and in some situations more than others.

-Has short red hair that's straighter than in her icons, and green eyes.
-Has to wear glasses, but most of the time you'll see her in contacts.
-Probably seems like she's trying to fade into the background a lot. At the very least, it's not easy for her to stand out.
-She relaxes a lot more when she's comfortable in a situation or with certain people, though.
-A lot of her clothes are from Goodwill and places like that, so she dresses pretty conservatively and casual, and wouldn't have any idea what to do with something trendy.

- In his mid-thirties shhh don't remind him.
- Is pretty tall and very well-muscled.
- Looks like the ethnic mutt he is; you could easily mistake him for hispanic, Turkish, several blends of Asian... and that's coupled with a Ukrainian name. (He probably does have ancestors from all those places. Thanks, ME canon.) That includes his skin being a shade of yellowish, though the ME3 lighting (sigh) tends to flush that out and it only tends to be visible in my ME1-era icons. (Such as the one I'm using on this ping.)
- Has this... slightly odd pompadour on his head. Canon says it's got something to do with the way his biotics make him build up static electricity. Combining that with Fandom fanon up until then, and it's a combination of the static plus all the hair product he uses to try and make something somewhat presentable out of it.
- Gets static shocks all the time and can also cause them. He barely even notices anymore, though he might occasionally flinch just a little. You might notice, if he touches you at the wrong time.
- Has a bunch of scars hidden away under the shirt, though nothing huge. Slightly more obvious are the small scars he has on his mouth, which run diagonally. He's not gonna talk about it.
- If he uses his biotics, he starts glowing blue, and his eyes go from brown to way-too-vivid-to-be-natural blue.
- Always dresses in some form of uniform or Alliance-brand off-hours gear. Usually carries a side-arm off-campus, too.

• 15 years old
  
• On the tall side of average -- let's say 5'8" -- and has a wiry build, with a small chest and modest hips.
  
• Black shoulder-length hair with a slight greenish cast, green eyes, brown skin.
  
• This is what her wings look like when she's making a point of showing them to someone. The rest of the time, they're flat against her back and look much smaller.
  
• Landfall accent! Which obviously isn't a real thing, so let's go with Northeastern American.She's very expressive when she speaks, with large gestures and intense facial expressions.
  
• She likes dark clothing with simple lines, and is still outgrowing her Goth phase. Everything is either modified to let her wings out; low enough in the back that it's not an issue; or loose and roomy enough that she could hide a refrigerator underneath, never mind wings. She does not normally wear jewelry or make-up.
  
• There is probably a novel in her bag.

The only thing about Rinoa's normal appearance that is worth pointing out are the two or three-each-side caramel-colored stripes in her long, black hair. You can see them in this icon. Canon never mentions them, and nobody else in-game (who isn't magic) has weird hair, so I say she dyed herself some highlights.

When Rinoa is dressed normally, in street clothes, she looks a lot like her icons. She's not always wearing the blue-thing she wears in-game, obviously, but lots of cute, fun outfits.

When Rinoa is The Sorceress, totally different story. She puts on elaborate outfits with fancy headdresses, weird make-up, and possibly some (fake/temporary/magicked-up) tribal tattoos. She occasionally grows big, curled horns near her ears. I will try to have links for those, but if I've noted her being in Sorceress garb, then assume she's all blinged out. Like this, or this, or with something like this, or this (the last one courtesy of furnaceface).

If you've ever seen something in haute couture and thought "okay, but who the fuck would ever wear that?" it's probably fair game.

Roland is pretty wysiwyg, since canon is suuuuuper easy on the physical descriptions for him, and I haven't had him long enough to get into a lot of headcanon, yet. But have some general stats:

• is 28 years old
• always wears a corduroy jacket, unless otherwise noted; wearing it is easier than carrying it
• Is really seriously always carrying his guitar, usually in her case if he's not playing
• Oh yeah, the guitar is female. Her name is Patience. I don't want to confuse people, so this doesn't get put into pings a lot.
• Has a pleasant singing voice, on the whiskey and gravel side, but with excellent pitch -- he keeps his real showing off for his guitar work, though
• Has messy dark hair, and is usually unshaven, less as a fashion statement than because he can't be bothered
• is a t-shirt and jeans kind of guy. See above, re: can't be bothered
• Has a small scar on his cheek from a sword. He won't want to talk about it.

--Tall for a Skywalker, so let's say 6 feet-ish, and definitely has the goatee in icons, along with a pierced ear and more than a few tattoos. Most prominent are the red modified bloody bones (he added the skull as a cheery little fuck you to the guy who'd basically owned him for two years) on his left bicep, the space version of a trident on his left forearm, the really terribly translated "fast and furious" Chinese characters on the back of his neck, the pink glittery "totes" on the small of his back that he should probably get rid of as it totally jacks his street cred, and a small skull on his inner thigh that a whole bunch of you have probably seen...
--Dirty blond hair (probably literally a bunch more than I'd like to think about...), with Mara's green eyes and not Paul Walker's gorgeous blue ones.
--I'm going to go with generic Mid-Rim accent/inoffensive American accent
--He's generally in black leather pants and a black sleeveless shirt. Yes, even in winter. Cade makes good choices and he's pretty proud of his biceps.
--He's also normally at least a little drunk/on some sort of substance. He's got Teh Issuez.

Atton's pretty easy (insert jokes here) but let's go anyway:

- 22 years old, but has that level of timeless look that could let him pull off anywhere between 16 and 30.
- Always wears The Jacket unless otherwise indicated. Usually wears some kind of white linen shirt and leather pants underneath because we gotta scream bad boy somehow.
- Brown hair, brown eyes that can gain a gleam of gold when he's being particularly like a bastard.
- 100% telepathy proof unless you really push hard, in which case you're going to have a Problem with him. Otherwise, you'll just pick up him thinking about inane stuff, counting cards in his head, or staring at your/someone else's boobs. You're welcome.
- Medium height, somewhat more muscled than a guy like him probably should be, has some scars but not a lot. Still doesn't really like doing the naked from the waist up thing.
- Has weirdly awesome reflexes. For no reason. Yep. No reason at all.

* Has finally grown into her height and isn't all Bambi in the limbs, so she's a graceful 5'7".

Her dresses go all the way to the floor (she's a grown woman, omg) and are kind of second season of Downton Abbey reminiscent.
* Her hair (dark auburn and curly) is always up, but in nothing terribly fussy. She doesn't normally have time for it as she's (except during this portion of the BDE) normally taking care of her war half-orphan Jims, who's two and a half years old and not at all interested in waiting around for Rilla to primp herself.

- Is somewhere in her mid-40s, which translates to 'teenage' for asari.
- Is very very blue. Yes, everywhere. She also doesn't have hair; instead she has cartilage 'head-tentacles' that curve up into a point at the back of her head, and no visible ears.
- Doesn't actually wear the science-combat girl outfit from most of her icons, but a collection of largely white and sometimes yellow or black dresses that inch towards the conservative.
- Again, she's very blue. Including the eyes.
- Everything else is sort of average, as long as you discount the fact that she's technically not female by anyone's standards but looks it anyway.

Hannibal Lecter

Original flavor (*cough*) Hannibal:

- Mid-40s; takes good care of himself, but the greying hair probably gives it away.
- 6' even. Fairly powerfully built, but not bulky - PB was a dancer and gymnast, so think that build. (Strong enough to put a knife through a wooden cutting board. Mmf.)
- Supposed to have red eyes, PB is brown, so let's go with a warm reddish-brown.
- Light brown hair, greying nicely.
- Has assorted scars from years of life and dangerous hobbies, but nothing major.
- Is fluent in English, but speaks with a noticeable Danish indeterminately European accent. (Has a wonderful voice. Mmf.)

Pretty much everything he does is deliberate. He's graceful (unless he's deliberately not being graceful) and purposeful. He thinks through everything, but he's smart enough that's pretty much instantaneous.

Dresses really, really nicely. Is rarely without a waistcoat and/or tie. Unless it's specified, assume he's in clothes that cost at least as much as the average person's yearly salary. ($180K watch, WTF Hannibal!?)

Is almost always calm, with a side of curiosity. His emotions are extremely low-key, because most things don't hit him the traditional way. Also, his expressions are pretty low-key, which is hard to get across in writing, but if you've seen the show, you know a lot of his expressions are microexpressions. Not difficult to read, but definitely restrained.


Current flavor Hanna:
- Closer to 5'10".
- Prefers classy tailored pantsuits as being more practical, but also rocks a gown when needed. Is rarely without impeccable makeup and my-god-expensive but classy and restrained jewelry.
- Tends to wear her long hair neatly pulled or styled away from her face and otherwise down.

Everything else is pretty much exactly the same.

• is 16ish. Probably. Maybe.
• When she's 40, she'll have the leukocytes of a teenager.
• Has red hair

• except when she doesn't

• Still has a very 50s dress sense, typically wearing things I find on ModCloth circle skirts and sundresses
• (except how she isn't)
• is pretty much impervious to extreme temperatures and doesn't always understand people who aren't
• Unless I say otherwise, looks like she does in her icon. It's just easier that way when you're playing a shapeshifter.

Mackenzie "Kenzi" Malikov

* Yes, after four years, the powers of Lost Girl FINALLY gave her a last name. She will never mention it, and it's not on official paperwork anywhere you can find; she prefers using aliases, and has been off the grid for years. But it does exist, and her first name is apparently Mackenzie, not exactly the most Russian first name ever.

* 5'4" in her sock feet. Which you will never see unless you're her roommate, Toby or in an AU weekend hook-up with her, because she prefers her boots at least 3" tall if not taller.

* Natural hair color is a mystery. I tend to use the icons with blackish hair a lot (they have great expressions), but on any given day could be rocking one of her neon wigs, hair streaks, or decided to tint the whole thing slightly maroon or blue. Usually I'll put that in her beginning ping in a thread.

* Thin in that music-box-dancer, underfed-during-adolescence street-kid way. Also has the metabolism of a hummingbird, so probably won't gain weight until she's in her seventies, if then.

* Pale pale skin, pale pale blue eyes. (The first time I saw pics of the cast, I assumed Ksenia was the one playing a Fae.) Is a little vain about both, and tends to play these up with make-up.

* Will not sit if it will make her the shortest person in the room. Much more likely to perch on something high. Or flit from high thing to high thing.

Basically, think 'cat.'

* Actually, has many cat-like habits (naps, fascination with shiny things, constant eating... not overly burdened with ethical questions).

* Still dresses somewhere between Goth and punk with a taste for anything expensive. And shiny. Do not forgot the shiiiinies.

* Just turned 19 in January. Can not sing. Can speak fluent Russian. Dances very well.

Is probably examining your wallet as we speak.

* 5'11", built like a martial artist. Walks, stands, and scans her surroundings like someone ready for a fight.

* Dresses casually - jeans & t-shirt, no make-up - and simply for everything except formal parties. Then she glams it up.

* Hair is about shoulder-length now.

* Still tends toward the bouncy, but it's not as pronounced as it was at 16.

* Is physically nearly 18 years old, but she's chronologically only about 3, thanks, cloning!

* Is 5'5", has brown eyes and despite some of my icons, she has really long brown (maybe even auburn) hair. From the looks of solicitations, she's going to be changing things up quite a bit by the end of summer, though. I really hope Zoey Deutch works with me and gets a short, red hairstyle by then. BE MORE LIKE YOUR MOM!

* As she's gotten more comfortable in her body, Jessica has tended to wear clothes that are definitely more feminine, but very few of which would make a father uncomfortable, and those are deployed strategically. (Hi, Roxxon job interview from Ultimate Mystery!) She almost always dresses in layers, so she'll usually be wearing a button down shirt or a jacket or something over the rest of her outfit.

* Tends not to sit like a normal person. She'll scrunch up with her legs crossed or pulled up on a chair, she'll end up with her feet out on something out if she's lounging, etc. She also can't stand still too much. She's just constantly moving unless she needs to not do that. She has discipline, but her nature is still pretty spidery.

* Has a tattoo of a triskelion on her back.
