SIGN-UPS FOR FALL 2014 CLASSES

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Fall 2014 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

And now we get to what you really want to see: The Fall Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on August 20th. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or prior arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait until 2015 to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MON: Period 1: Pryde: Technology & You

Fandom brings a wide range of people from all walks of life to this school, and it can be confusing. Maybe you're from another time, or world, or just haven't had exposure to things like modern technology. This class will help you learn about phones and computers and all those things that make every day life easier for us- and for you too, once you learn how to navigate them.

MON: Period 2: Reno: Public Service: On the Edge

Following a few of the themes raised by Reno's Day After Doomsday class, Public Service will provide students with hands-on experience dealing with a slowly recovering post-apocalypse scenario several years after the damage is done.

Classes will primarily be held in a field trip format*, with the class as a whole being provided a plot of land to develop as they please, with a goal of providing some manner of vital service to the nearby struggling settlement of Edge, built out of the ruins of what once was the city of Midgar. Students will have to employ teamwork and critical thinking skills in order to make their Public Service project a success.

*Reno reserves the right to hold classes on the island if conditions in Edge are too dangerous for hands-on class expeditions. Possible risks include monster attacks, dealing with troubled locals, and being pecked by large yellow birds. Appropriate protective equipment will be provided to students before heading to Edge.

MON: Period 3: Cobb: How To Be a Hired Gun/Mercenary

TUES: Period 1: Bond: Comparative Culture

Just as all cultures have points of difference, they also all have points of similarity. This class will explore differences and similarities in the various expressions of world culture, by showing different ways of fulfilling the same base needs.

TUES: Period 2: Adler: Sex, Dating, and Self-Confidence

Are you embarrassed by the very idea of sex? Feel awkward in your own skin? Baffled by the idea that someone might actually ask you on a date? Of course you are. You're a teenager. Don't worry, it's normal. Or maybe you're already quite the player, and just want to up your game? Or perhaps you'd just like to feel sexy in general, and have no idea where to start.

In this class, we'll be covering not only the basics of sexual education (biologically and...less biologically speaking), but also how to be more self-confident, feel more attractive, and learn to love yourself, first and foremost. (Not like that. Mostly. I mean, we'll cover that bit, too.)

TUES: Period 3: Karla: Defying Expectations: Staying Yourself in Spite of Destiny

A lot of students at Fandom have some kind of 'destiny.' Maybe you're the Chosen One, the heir to your kingdom or your family's Fortune 500 company, or you just have parents who won't settle for anything less than the life they have planned for you. So how do you deal with all these expectations people have for you that may have almost nothing to do with the person you are? This discussion-based class focuses on ways to confront your destiny on your own terms, hopefully managing to become the kind of person you need to be without losing sight of who you are.

WED: Period 1: Rand: How To Get By In A Hostile World

Let's be honest here: not everyone's a superhero. Or at least not the kind of superhero that doesn't die. A lot of us are just normal people trying to stay alive long enough to have a good time. Unfortunately, there's always the bigger-than-thou people of this multiverse fighting out their battles over our backs, and that's where this class comes in. How do you deal with that? What tips and tricks are there to get out of harm's way when harm's way has laser vision and can read your mind? And if you get stuck in the middle of a hostile situation, be it a sleazy town with no money in your pocket or a battlefield, how do you get out of it using what little you've got?

Want to be a spy? Of course! Everyone does. But most spies are too busy off being spies to give you the crucial bits of education that you so desperately need. That's where Pam and Cheryl come in. They've worked near spies before, you guys. They've got this. Topics to include how to look hot and sleep around a lot, shades of black, and blowing your expense budget before you even check in.

FRI: Period 2: Lyman: American History: Lies Your Other Teachers Told You

That's because someone's removed the interesting, tragic, and screwed up parts that make history so fun out of your boring, boring textbooks. This class will fix that, and it will be amazing. Probability of an actual president showing up: high.

FRI: Period 3: Lecter: Begining Gourmet Cooking Techniques

Good cooking begins with simple steps - choosing the right ingredients, having the right tools, and knowing how to use them. This class will introduce techniques that can be used at any level of cooking expertise to improve the experience and end product. Class topics will include everything from buying produce to making palatable coffee, as well as the further application of the techniques learned.

NPC Classes

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
