SIGN-UPS FOR SPRING 2015 CLASSES

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2015 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

And now we get to what you really want to see: The Spring Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Wednesday, December 31st. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or prior arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait until 2015 to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MON: Period 1: Stark: Comprehending Science and Technology

An introduction to modern science an technology in an easy and concise format. Discussions will include the basics of radiation, force fields, interdimensional travel, and alien technology.

MON: Period 2: Bond: Basic Mis-Intelligence

The intelligence community has long been a source of suspicion, paranoia, and fictional inspiration. Basic Mis-Intelligence shines a light on all eras of spy fiction, from the deadly serious to the parodic using select examples of the form.

MON: Period 3: Lecter: Baking: Sweet & Savory

This class will focus on the unique subset of cooking devoted to breads, cakes, and other baked goods, and how this method of cooking differs from others.

MON: Period 4: Pryde: Adulting 101

Getting out into the real world is exciting...and kind of a rude awakening to all the stuff you don't have to do. This class will help you get a little bit of a jump on that, teaching you the basics of what you're going to have to deal with when you get out there.

TUESDAY

TUES: Period 1: Adler: How to Develop a Personal Style

Always wanted to dress better, but didn't know where to start? This is the class for you. Classes will cover the basics of fashion for both men and women, including a comprehensive guide on how to dress for particular occasions (one's outfit for a promising first date will hopefully not resemble one's outfit for a funeral, for example), as well as a detour into various fashion movements. Creativity and an open mind are not only encouraged, but somewhat mandatory.

TUES: Period 2: Skywalker & Kenobi: Ethics: Navigating the Gray Areas

Though it would certainly be a lot easier if the universe was cast in absolutes, many personal choices involve negotiating through problems that aren't nearly as clear cut. Skywalker and Kenobi will help you learn to make proper choices (about friendship, love, and picking mentors who aren't trying to turn you evil) before you end up coming to blows with your best friend!

TUES: Period 3: Parker & Spencer: Creative Problem Solving

Think MacGuyver only taught by people with inappropriate fear responses. Borrowing at least a couple situations from Leverage canon and making heavy use of the Danger Shop, Eliot and Parker will present the students with a new scenario every week through which they have to navigate. A fine example would be working out how to steal a priceless work of art from a state of the art vault using only what they can pick up from a catering table at a swanky gala. Students will be encouraged to use their individual talents as well as team up with each other to work together to solve the problem of the week, be it stealing a car, resolving a hostage situation at a bank, throwing a dinner party with whatever random crap is in your fridge, or climbing to the top of a mountain. Stress will be put on originality and making use of whatever happens to be on hand.

Eliot promises to try to keep Parker from throwing the students off too many roofs.

TUES: Period 4: Hrothbert: Defending Yourself Against Magic

The population of Fandom seems woefully underprepared for attack by magical things. Bob would like to rectify this. For those who can perform magic, he can teach counterspells and formulae. For those who can't, he can teach ways to recognise what's going on and interrupt or get away from it. (Class may include what types of material best hold charms, distraction techniques, types of magic, and when to exercise the better part of valour.)

WED: Period 1: Thor: Modern-Day Myths

Most cultures have myths and legends dating back to before written records existed, but what about those tales that are whispered about even today? Incredible stories often passed about via email or postings on the Book of Faces. In this class we will discuss these modern myths and whether there is any truth behind them.

WED: Period 2: Atreides: Mad Kings & Queens

Many of us have been inspired at some point by great men and women in history. The past, however, was also shaped by the insane, the irrational, and the degenerate -- people with absolute power and few inhibitions.

From the whimsical to the deranged, we will explore the catalogue of chaos and depravity left in their wake, and look at various ways they were removed from power.

As always, this course is not recommended for the faint-of-heart.

WED: Period 3: Pie & Hale: Friendship is Cakes!!!

Nothing can cheer a friend up like a freshly made cake! Learn the basics of baking and decorating cakes! From cupcakes to wedding cakes, simple buttercreams to fondant covered life-size effigies, this class will cover it all! In icing.

THU: Period 1: Rand: Self Defense: More Than Punching Somebody's Nose In-

Sure, some of you were probably raised on a diet of swords and bazookas, but a lot of you missed that freighter. In fact, some of you might have never had to lift a weapon at all before you came here. Self Defense will teach you all the basics of punching, kicking, blasting, and occasionally, exploding things that you'll need to at least make it through Graduation alive.

THU: Period 2: Karla: History of Poisons

Poisons have been used in human history for almost as long as there has been human history. For good reason, as we spend our lives surrounded by poisons. Poison has influenced politics, led to medical breakthroughs, and have even been used for recreational purposes. This class will focus primarily on poisonous plants, covering diverse topics as historical uses of particular poisons, how to identify them, their physical properties, and possibly even some of the tricks of the poisoner's trade.

THU: Period 3: Jones: Independent Study

Each Student will select a project to develop or topic of study that will somehow be beneficial to their homeworld or time period. Throughout the semester the student will work on the independent course of study while observed by the faculty member. Exercises will be provided by Jones to help the study further develop their project. At the end of the semester the student will present an overview of their independent study to the rest of class.

THU: Period 4: Lyman: The Art of BS

Nor do they make your butt huge!"), BS (or "greasing the wheels") makes the world go around. Learn from a man so well versed in this art he worked in two different presidential administrations!

FRI: Period 1: Starsmore & Heartilly: Powers, Identity, and The World; Embracing the Real You

Maybe you were born 'different.' Maybe you spent half your life 'normal,' and then one day, you weren't any more. You're not alone. At Fandom, many of us have grappled with what it means to be who and what we are. This class focuses on coming to terms with yourself and relating to the world around you: when to hide, when to announce yourself, and who to trust. Taught by two teachers who have come to accept themselves, powers and all, for better or for worse, over the course of the semester Professors Heartilly and Starsmore will share truths they've learned the hard way in the hopes that some of you might not have to.

FRI: Period 2: Hatter: Business Sense 101

Wanna learn how to run your own business? That's what this class is for! Learn the basics of staffing, interior decoration, money management, crushing your competitors (in a polite way, I swear!), advertising and anything else that might go into being the very best entrepreneur you can be!

NPC Classes

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
