BDE - Finale Info and Sign-Ups!
It's (almost) finale time! So here's the rough shape of what's going to happen, and then we'll get into the nitty-gritty.
ROUGH SHAPE
The island will be unmistakably sick by the beginning of the finale, aka next week. Researchers can assemble as early as they like, but should be in the library by Monday, March 23rd, trying to discern what's wrong with our beloved home. We'll have false leads in case anyone wants some wrong angles to pursue.
On Tuesday, March 24th, one of the Cursed Item holders will find the strength of will to break the spell. After doing so, this person realizes that all of these cursed items are chock-full of poison and badness. This person will run and notify the Research Team: Leland Gaunt is your man.
As this happens, Leland Gaunt boards himself in. A heavy fog rolls in; from Tuesday to Saturday midday, there won't be any sun. (So vampires are welcome back into the mix.)
From this point forward, people with cursed items will fall into three groups. Group A, Breakers, will also break the spell, smashing their items and freeing themselves from Leland Gaunt's grasp. Group B, Fighters, will form a protective ring around the Needful Things store, so that meanies can't get inside to hurt him. And Group C, Just Plain Sick? He's going to drain their energy as quickly as possible, hoping to kill them off.
The Research team will continue learning more about Leland, while the Recovery team tries to fight through their crazed classmates and arrest Leland Gaunt. What the Research team learns: each holder of a cursed item must choose to destroy his or her item. They can be coaxed into it, but it must be each person's choice. Otherwise, the holders will wither away and die.
On Thursday, there will be an IC Town Hall meeting; the Research team will be handing out lists of names of people who have visited Leland's shop, and thus might still have items. A new team forms: the Negotiators. The job: to hunt the sick Fandomites down and convince them, by whatever means necessary, to destroy their shiny objects.
Friday night, the job will be accomplished, or so you think; Leland Gaunt is arrested, but he seems smug. The island is still sick, the fog is still heavy, and all formerly-cursed Fandomites are accounted for. What gives?
There's going to be a coda on Saturday explaining exactly what gives, as the Research team finds one last piece of the puzzle, with the help of some telepaths and empaths. The Researchers get to face off with Gaunt one last time, and then the day is saved.
Let's break this down day by day!
MONDAY, MARCH 23
TUESDAY, MARCH 24
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25
THURSDAY, MARCH 26
FRIDAY, MARCH 27
SATURDAY, MARCH 28
QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? CONCERNS?
We may have missed something, in writing this up, or you may have questions about how it all works. Below, you'll find sign-up forms for the various roles in the finale -- some of which can overlap, i.e., anyone can be a Negotiator, or a Clinic Volunteer -- and also space to ask any questions you might have.
Sign-ups will be open until Saturday, March 21st, midnight PST.

- Last full day that Needful Things will be open, and thus, last chance to get a cursed item.
- Researchers can start looking, but they have no useful leads yet -- we've got some fake angles on what could be causing the island's problems that we'll dole out if you guys want.
TUESDAY, MARCH 24
- One brave Fandomite will break the thrall, and destroy his or her cursed item. This person will seek out the Research Team and update them: it's Leland Gaunt.
- Major fog sweeps in.
- Research Team will now dig into Leland Gaunt, looking for clues as to what he's up to.
- From here to Thursday, some cursed item holders (Breakers) can break the spell themselves.
- From here until Thursday/Friday, some cursed item holders (Fighters) will be surrounding the Needful Things store, in an attempt to protect Leland Gaunt. (Whether it's Thursday or Friday depends on when that Negotiator reaches the item holder in question.)
- From here until Friday, some cursed item holders (Just Plain Sick) will be curled up in their rooms, unable to leave. (Whether it's Thursday or Friday depends on when that Negotiator reaches the item holder in question.)
- Recovery Team will head to Needful Things, to stand off against the Fighters and try to reach Leland Gaunt.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25
- More throwdowns outside Leland Gaunt's place.
- Research team collects more intel.
- Research uses radio podcasts to organize a list of who visited Leland Gaunt's store.
- Research decides on an island-wide town meeting.
THURSDAY, MARCH 26
- Research holds an IC Town Hall meeting, to update everyone on their findings.
- Negotiators are enlisted, and given names of Fandomites to rid of their items.
- Negotiators seek out the Fighters and Just Plain Sick people, and convince them to break their items.
- Some Fighters/Just Plain Sick people are taken to the clinic.
- Clinic volunteers hand out warm hugs and soup.
FRIDAY, MARCH 27
- Negotiators finish off their tasks, and all radio-reported visits are accounted for.
- Some Fighters/Just Plain Sick people are taken to the clinic.
- Clinic volunteers hand out warm hugs and soup.
- With the Fighters taken care of, the Recovery Team is able to arrest Leland Gaunt, at sunset, Friday night.
A Night WatchmanNight Watchmen, plural, stay at the jail, monitoring Gaunt, who seems smug.- The fog is still heavy, and the island still sick. It's not over yet.
SATURDAY, MARCH 28
- Something vital is spotted.
- The research team assembles a group of empaths and telepaths, for an important task.
- Research faces Leland Gaunt.
- Leland Gaunt leaves Fandom forever.
- The fog lifts, the trees are healed, and the deer are normal once again.

Fighters!
In this category, you will need a Negotiator; you can choose one yourself, OOC, or one will be RNG'd for you. So please use this minimal sheet:
Character Name:
Do You Have a Negotiator Picked Out, OOC? (If yes, great! If no, you will be entered into the RNG, which is also great! Don't worry -- you can change your answer at any time before sign-ups close.)

Research-Plus!

Character Name:
E-mail Address:
Any Obscure Languages?: (If your character can read any languages that are considered obscure in any universe, please list them here -- this will enter the character into an RNG for a key find.)
Public Speaking?: (If your character is comfortable talking in front of a crowd, say yes -- this will enter the character into an RNG for a key role.)
Organizational Skills?: (If your character is good at cross-referencing information, say yes -- this will enter the character into an RNG for a key role.)
Where Will You Be Saturday?: (Some people might choose to stay in the clinic, with loved ones; others will be hunting down the telepaths and empaths, then proceeding to the endgame stand-off with Gaunt. Your choice!)

Any Obscure Languages?: Another polyglot here! English, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian, Czech, ancient & modern Hebrew, Latin, Greek ... etc.
Public Speaking?: He's all right at it.

Public Speaking?: She can if she has to!

Any Obscure Languages?: Here's what I know off the top of my head that I've seen referenced in Hellblazer, but if it's magical or used in magic, he probably knows it: Latin, Etruscan, Zhang-Zhung, Samaritan Aramaic, Jewish Babylonian Aramaic, Neo-Hittite, Akkadian, Aramaic, Mycenaean Greek, Sanskrit, Phoenician, Ancient Macedonian.
Public Speaking?: Sure, especially if it's showmanship or bullshit.
Organizational Skills?: Cross-referencing research, yes. Personal organizational skills, unless it's a pub crawl, NO.
Where Will You Be Saturday?: No idea yet. Put 'em where you want him.

Where Will You Be Saturday?: Not in the clinic!

Recovery Team
Sign up here to join the crew. Recovery Team starts Tuesday, after the Fighters begin arriving, and ends with Leland Gaunt's arrest on Friday. (You don't have to stay out there the full three days; take shifts, or check in with other groups, or go be a Negotiator in spots. Or stay like the obsessed stalker you are, Squall.)
Character Name:
E-mail Address:
Night Watchman?: (If your character is willing to sit at the jail Friday night and watch Leland Gaunt, to be sure he doesn't escape, say yes here. Note: he won't try anything (beyond taunting you and being a general jerk) and many people will be at the Clinic Friday night instead, so be sure!)
I Want the Arrest: (Say "yes" here to be entered into that particular RNG. Any actual law enforcement types get dibs, if they chime in; otherwise, it's RNG.)
Re: Recovery Team
E-mail Address: fh.jalian at gmail
Night Watchman?: Sure! Can she smack him around if he's too annoying? :)
I Want the Arrest: Nah, s'okay.
Re: Recovery Team
E-mail Address: bellatemple @ gmail . com
Night Watchman?: Sure!
I Want the Arrest: Nope.
Re: Recovery Team
E-mail Address: prince.of.bitca at gmail
Night Watchman?: Sure!
I Want the Arrest: Consider him a back-up for this one if you need him; other people take precedence in the RNG.
Re: Recovery Team
E-mail Address: meat.and.sarcasm@gmail.com
Night Watchman?: Nope. Mr. Obsessive Stalker is there for one person only, and it ain't Gaunt.
I Want the Arrest: No.
Re: Recovery Team
E-mail Address: fhkatie@gmail
Night Watchman?: Nope. She's trusting the rest of you!
I Want the Arrest: Sure, but only if no law-enforcement types want it.

Negotiators!
Your job: hunt down the Fandomites with cursed items, and convince them to break the spell. They must destroy the item in question, and note: it has to be their hands to break it, and not yours. Then you'll escort them to the clinic.
You may choose to assist a particular cursed Fandomite (e.g., Squall wants to talk Rinoa back to her senses), or join the general RNG pool, or both. This sign-up post is only for people who want to be entered into the RNG pool, whether or not they are helping specific loved ones; if you just want to Negotiate for a specific character, you do not need to use this form. Just work it out with that player OOC and all is well!
This group can overlap with any other group -- you can Negotiate and still sign up for other jobs on other teams. The only people who can't be Negotiators are people who, as of Thursday, still have cursed items themselves. (I.e., Fighters and Just Plain Sick.)
Sign up here! Negotiators will get their lists at the meeting on Thursday, and have until Friday afternoon to get all of those people back to their senses. Scenes can be preplayed or played live, depending on what's better for you and your sick counterpart(s).
Character Name:
E-mail Address:
Fighter, Sick Person, or Either?: (Are you willing to reason with someone who might be trying to punch you, or send fireballs at your hair? Would you prefer someone curled up in a ball in his or her room? Are you okay either way? Let us know!)
Re: Negotiators!
E-mail Address: bellatemple @ gmail . com
Fighter, Sick Person, or Either?: Sick person. Roland's going to get to avoid getting his ass kicked, this time around.

Empaths and Telepaths
This group can overlap other groups as it only comes into play at the last minute. You may even be able to participate if you held a cursed item, but bear in mind you will still be rather sick and not 100% yourself.
Sign up here! Empaths and Telepaths only come into play Saturday morning.
Character Name:
E-mail Address:
Empath, Telepath, or Related Ability?: (Explain what you can do and how it will help!)
Re: Empaths and Telepaths
E-mail Address: fh.jalian at gmail
Empath, Telepath, or Related Ability?: Limited telepath. She can talk to other telepaths, both in actual words and in infodump bursts of here-have-everything-I've-ever-experienced-all-at-once.

Clinic Volunteer
This group can also overlap any of the other Finale groups, except the people who are themselves sick. So long as you're feeling well enough to dish out soup and hugs, come on down. No RNG -- we're taking as many as we can get.
Sign up here! Clinic volunteers will show up Thursday or Friday night, depending on player preference, and might choose to stay for Saturday and Saturday night, as well, depending on how quickly sick people decide to leave. Note that clinic volunteers can also pop out to take part in the research finale, or be negotiators again before returning. Just so long as you help.
