SIGN-UPS FOR FALL 2015 CLASSES

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Fall 2015 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

And now we get to what you really want to see: The Fall Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Tuesday, August 25th. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or prior arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait until 2015 to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MON: Period 1: Lecter & Starsmore: Creative Inspirations

Life informs art. Whether it's a painter capturing a landscape, a singer sharing a tale of heartbreak, or a dancer imitating the motion of a bird's wings, what we experience often influences our creative pursuits. People throughout history have striven to express themselves by reflecting the world in various ways. This class will encourage students to explore their own creativity by reflecting something presented to them in a field trip each week. It is the sincere hope of the teachers that students find themselves both more aware of the world around them, and inspired to express their connection to that world in some form of creativity, so that others might have a chance to witness it through their unique perspectives. And that none of them get so drunk they won't remember it.

MON: Period 2: Bond: Deception for Fun & Profit

Lying is bad. But sometimes being expedient with the truth is a very valuable skill. Deception for Fun and Profit covers some of the ways a person can learn to be economical with the fact. Not that any you would use these skills out in the real world.

MON: Period 3: Temple: Health

This class will cover the basics of health nowadays: Basic first aid, nutrition, the effects of drugs and alcohol, mental health, and more. No previous experience with any of this is necessary, just come and learn.

MON: Period 4: Rodriguez: Drama

Have you ever wanted to learn to act? Here’s your chance! In this class we will explore classical dramatic techniques and put on performances, and generally have fun.

TUES: Period 1: Spencer, Hardison & Parker: Competitive Team Building

There is no I in Team, but there is a ME. And an AT. (Or TA.) Anyway! Point is: all you individualists, come here to learn how to be individual in a group! A group dedicated to achieving its goals of ... snacks and adventure! (Parker that's terrible. We're not putting that down. Fine, let's see you write it, then. Fine. Teamwork is -- Hardison, why don't you take a crack at it? Fine, just to stop you from busting out the dictionary definition of teamwork or whatever.) Come and learn the joys of working with others. Y'all are lucky my sarcasm font isn't in heavy use yet. You'll form teams to learn to bolster each other's strengths and minimize each other's weaknesses while participating in very well-thought-out, meticulously-tailored, and not-at-all-random scenarios every week. (There. Nitpick THAT.)

TUES: Period 2: Bob of Bainbridge: A Magical Bestiary

There are many different sorts of magical creatures in different worlds. Learn some of the most common ones, how to recognise them, and how to defend yourself against them.

TUES: Period 3: Barton: Sex Ed

Odds are, most of you already know the birds and the bees, but when it comes to sex, you can never have too much information. This course will cover safety, techniques, and honest answers to all your burning questions.

TUES: Period 4: Lyman: Speech

Planning on running a Fortune 500 company someday? Becoming famous beyond your wildest dreams? Overthrowing a small to mid-sized nation and having throngs cheer your name? Well, you better be able to give a speech without wanting to wet yourself. This is the class for you! We will explore extemporaneous speaking, planned speeches, and debate, as well as what to do if your teleprompter goes out, your translator just said something egregious that you weren't even supposed to understand, and how to recover if, hypothetically speaking, your boss has been hiding a major disease from the American people.

WED: Period 1: Pie: Pony Express! Friendship is Cultural Exchange

Ever wondered just what sort of world could produce Fandom's favorite talking, manic, bubblegum-pink pony? Well wonder no more! After years of learning all about humanoid cultures through Fandom, Pinkie is proud to lead a field trip course into Equestria and show off a bit of her own homeland to the students of FH. Utilizing the fine and totally-stable-they-SWEAR technology at Portalocity, students will have the chance to visit a new city in Equestria every week, explore new lands and experience new traditions, and discover that, yeah, Pinkie's pretty weird even in her own hometown.

WED: Period 2: Kenobi & Skywalker: Ethics

Life is a series of choices, some more fraught than others. This class helps you to navigate some of the trickier choices (should I lie to my teachers? Should I attempt to kill my roommate? Should I place all of my faith in a clearly sketchy father figure? Should I maybe listen to advice given by older people JUST ONCE, ANAKIN?) in a hypothetical situation before a wrong move screws up your life and the lives of everyone you've ever met forever.

But no pressure.

WED: Period 3: Veila & Atreides: Surviving (and Thriving) on Fandom Island

Moving somewhere new can be disconcerting at the best of times. Moving dimensions, however, brings with it entirely new paradigms of thought.

Moving to Fandom, in turn, takes those new paradigms of thought, blindfolds them, spins them in circles, and then sends them wandering off in random directions with a paper tail stuck to a thumbtack in hand. It doesn't matter where (or when, or how, or even why or who) you're from. You've got a lot to get used to. Therefore, we invite you to join two of Fandom's time-and-space displaced teachers, Tahiri Veila and Lady Ghanima, as they help you navigate the basics of transportation, currency, manners and local customs, and the unique "Odd" that is Fandom High. Even if you're a returning student, we invite you to join the class, and learn how to see and understand cultural relations and transitions through the eyes of your classmates.

THUR: Period 1: Rand: How to Get By In a Hostile World (AKA Weaseling 101)

Let's be honest here: not everyone's a superhero. Or at least not the kind of superhero that doesn't die. A lot of us are just normal people trying to stay alive long enough to have a good time. Unfortunately, there's always the bigger-than-thou people of this multiverse fighting out their battles over our backs, and that's where this class comes in. How do you deal with that? What tips and tricks are there to get out of harm's way when harm's way has laser vision and can read your mind? And if you get stuck in the middle of a hostile situation, be it a sleazy town with no money in your pocket or a battlefield, how do you get out of it using what little you've got?

THUR: Period 2: Winchester: Hunting 101

If you're paying someone to change your oil and don't know what to do if you get locked out, and you're really not clear on what all the traffic signs mean, you need this class. (Don't worry, we'll still get to go fast.)

FRI: Period 1: Cara: Don't Be Stupid

There are numerous ways to resolve the various problems you might come across in your life. Many of them are ridiculous and stupid. Really it's best for everyone concerned if you learn to figure out the best way to deal with these sort of things in an environment where messing up will not get anyone killed.

FRIDAY: Period 2: Death of the Endless: Philosophy of Loss

Different cultures have different views of death, grieving, and the afterlife. In this class, we’ll discuss different conceptions of loss and what happens next each week. Topics will include personal experiences and artistic depictions. Won’t be as depressing as it sounds.

FRI: Period 3: Washington: Teamwork & Tactics

Tactics and techniques are instruments to use to achieve a desired end. Learn the basics of survival in combat situations.

NPC CLASSES

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
