Meme: More Than Meets The Eye

You know what, it's quiet, I've had a headache for the past few days, and I just found out we haven't done this meme since September last year and we've had a glut of new characters since, SO.

There are certain characteristics about the people we play that *we* know, but we get tired of repeating in every introductory ping. There's also stuff that players wouldn't really be able to figure out just looking at an icon--how tall someone is, if they have an accent, what kind of clothes they are wearing...and in some cases, if their eyes/hair/whatever are different than the PB we've picked.

So wax poetic about what your characters look/sound like, if they have tics or scars, if they have a distinct singing voice, etc!

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

Cassandra is tallish, but her bearing might make her seem taller than she is.
When she's outside the dorms, she's usually wearing some form of armor. Though now that she's been back home, she prefers more ornate, less heavy armor to her platemail if she can get away with it.
Her casual garb tends more towards this than anything explicitly feminine; she much prefers trousers to skirts.
Has no scars. Yet. But she will have two noticable ones on her face in the future.
Has a peculiar accent that lays somewhere between ~~French~~ Orlesian and German. She would tell you it's a Nevarran accent.
Went on her vigil this summer and was touched by a Spirit of Faith, which should be visible to someone who can see that sort of thing.
Tends to move in a way that radiates stoic, which makes it doubly adorable when she loses her composure.
Secretly totally loves romance novels and other girly things like that. She goes all wobbly about ~passion~ in all forms.
Likes eggplant, tan, white and black for her general ensemble colors.
At this age, she doesn't actually have short-cropped hair (as she will in the future); she has long black hair she keeps in a ponytail.
Always seems lightly tanned, a general characteristic of Nevarrans.
Has dark brown eyes and likes eyeliner.

-Brown hair, which is sometimes curly and mostly worn down. I figure she straightens it when she has time.
-Brown/hazel eyes. They're described in stuff as hazel but colored as brown and the PB has hazel eyes so it's one of the two.
-5'6", and kinda tiny. She's got a dancer's build.
-22 years old, and probably looks about her age.
-Is nearsighted and wears glasses sometimes, for reading and detail work mostly.
-She's from Chicago but has lived in other places for years, so if she has an accent at all it probably shows up in flat vowels here and there.
-Her natural state is intangible, and she's solid basically through sheer force of will. My personal rule is, if you're trying to hurt her, she's probably not getting hit (tbh it's funnier), but if you're not, it's fine to touch her. She doesn't appear any different between the two states.
-She's ditched the old black leather bar look and is a pretty casual dresser, big on jeans and t-shirts, though she's been known to rock the midriff once in a while.
-Has three piercings in each ear, and sometimes wears a Star of David necklace.
-Also has an engagement ring on her left hand, which she is never taking off.

-Blonde hair, a little bit longer than shoulder-length with bangs. It's almost always worn down.
-Was born with green eyes, but as a clone Gwen's got blue ones.
-Probably about 5'5", thin, and has a good butt. That's canon.
-Has a bunch of piercings in her ears, a navel ring, and her right eyebrow is pierced. She also tends to wear a lot of jewelry you'd find in the mall.
-Despite the icons, Gwen probably shops entirely at Hot Topic. She dresses a little risque, with a lot of crop tops and low-rise jeans. If she's wearing a jacket, it's leather and has short spikes on the arms so you probably don't want to hug her. She fluctuates between rocker chick chic and "punk."
-Carries a knife on her person just in case.
-Totally sounds like Emma Stone.

*The icons are slightly misleading right now, but Jessica still has short red hair (maybe a little longer than in her Black Widow comics icons). But you know what, Zoey Deutch has colored her hair to what I needed shortly before I needed it, so I'm not going to quibble about length and just be glad that I have an accommodating PB.

*Tallish, around 5'10", reaching Adult Peter's usual listed height.

*Has a tattoo of a (not THE) triskelion on her back, but you never really see it unless she's in normal person workout clothes.

*Usually dresses in layers (she's developed an almost Britta Perry-level obsession with wearing jackets) and very often wears skirts and dresses in her personal time because it took her long enough to really feel like a girl, so she'll girl it up a bit.

*Wears pants and/or full costume when on duty. And jackets.

*Changes her voice slightly when in costume out of sheer force of habit. The difference with her normal speaking voice is less these days since she doesn't wear a full face mask anymore. Either way, you can definitely hear some Queens in her voice even though she never technically lived there.

*Carries a purse with her at all times, but it's actually former SHIELD gear. She was able to find one on interdimensional eBay following her world's destruction. It has her costume and whatever equipment she can store in it. There is a small section for lady stuff.

Dante's tall. Like, 6'2'' or taller, tall.
Half-demon, half-angel, all-unaware of this, but if your character can notice these things, go right ahead. I'm not particularly fussed if he finds out early.
Has baby blue eyes and brown hair in what I tend to describe as an undercut style, but what it comes down to is that the sides are shaven down, leaving a trail in the middle that could form a mohawk if he wanted to put in the effort. (He never does.)
Most of his smiles/grins make him look demonic, feral, or both.
He can actually hover a little bit for like a few seconds if he's attacking someone while jumping, though it looks more like gravity is briefly forgetting it has any grip on him for Rule of Cool reasons than like, actual flying.
He's got a single, thin scar over his face, clipping his eyebrow and stretching over his cheekbone.
Moves like he knows he's attractive and he doesn't particularly care if you care.
Has amazing reflexes (and strength and speed) and isn't afraid to exploit them for cool points, such as in situations where he can dodge incoming giant chunks of debris by shifting his shoulder just a little bit to the left.
Is a total showoff in general, with the twist that he's not really showing off for anyone but himself. Which means he has no shame about it, either. In his canon, that translates to a combat system that actually rates whether he's killing bad guys in a way that looks cool or not.
No, he's really all about showing off and having no shame.
Is slim but well-muscled and can pull off some ridiculous acrobatics.
His visual theme heavily leans towards blacks and reds, and ripped tight clothes probably because of some of the points above, cough. He tends to add little touches like a Union Jack patch on his long coat or a red smiley face patch on his Chucks. He also always wears a red gemstone pendant. He doesn't remember it, but it was given to him by his mother and contains a small sliver of her essence/memory.
His fighting style is more power than finesse; he sometimes overextends his reach or nearly trips, but he always winds up where he needs to be.
Has a mark on his back that glows when he's using his healing factor (which is powerful enough to let him take bullets to the back or a sword to the heart and barely leave an ouch) or summoning his sword, Rebellion.
Which looks like this.
When he's outside of the dorms, he also carries twin pistols called Ebony & Ivory. They don't use bullets and don't quite behave like normal guns should, firing off endless volleys very fast and doing bizarre things with ricochets, courtesy of Dante's powers.
Will also occasionally exude little flurries of red demonic energy, but when that's relevant I'll mention it.
Sounds like your typical American street kid with a limited vocabulary and a love of the word 'fuck'.
Tends to just own whatever space he winds up in unless he's actively frightened or worried, which doesn't happen often.

I took some liberties when I chose Charlie McDermott and the age range of Dipper. One big item is that Dipper has a birthmark of the Big Dipper constellation on his forehead. Since Charlie has a bunch of bushy brown hair covering his forehead it's mostly covered unless you are really searching for it.

Dipper also has wimpy noodle like arms. Shirtless pics of Charlie show he has confirmed the same kind of musculature.

I chose Anna Torv as the PB for Jones. Mostly because most of her promotional pictures for Fringe lacked any kind of facial expression, which is what I wanted for Jones.

Jones never smiles. Well she can but it isn't a pleasant experience (http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1127). She really doesn't experience emotions like humans do, comparing herself to a stone compared to the rest of the world. She can mimic social etiquette but for the most part she comes off expressionless.

Her voice is rather flat too, without much inflection. I would imagine it has some kind of British accent but I have a feeling that is just mimicry on her part.

Unless otherwise stated, Jones is always in a suit of some sort because that's usually what she wears in the comics. I see no reason to stray from that.

. . . pretty much looks exactly as advertised in the icons, yeah.

Has a visibly slighter, somewhat shorter build than humans.

Has two fingers and a thumb on each hand, and three toes (the pinkie toe is super tiny) on each foot. It's pretty hard not to notice.

Her lower legs sort of . . . curve backward? It's hard to describe, or at least it is when I haven't had coffee yet.

Her face mask is largely opaque, but you can see glowing spots where her eyes are, and occasionally make out a hint of a silhouette. Like, enough to tell you quarians have noses.

It might be just enough to be mildly disturbing? I don't mind at all if your character thinks so.

Has a boot knife with a pretty visible hilt strapped to the back of her right leg when she's not on campus.

Her voice sounds slightly electronic through the mask, and has an accent that (to me, anyway) has a touch of eastern European.

Also the light on the mouthpiece of her mask blinks when she talks.

I might go back and edit stuff into this later. :P

--- In costume, Electroclash looks like this: a one-sleeved white-and-grey mini dress with a green stripe reminiscent of an electrical current, matching cuff, and white go-go boots.
--- Out of costume, Sarah looks something like this: blazers, straight pants, pretty basic tops.
--- She's always wearing dark greys, white, and a little splash of green.
--- Also (out of costume) always wears a big silver ring with a dark green stone on it on her right middle finger, and a round pendant with another electrical current symbol on it. The latter may be mandated by the Superhero Registration Act; canon doesn't say and I've never decided.
--- Always, always wears her hair down (bangs + shoulder length). Some icons have her hair up but those also have much more revealing clothing, because she's annoying her dad in those. So unless otherwise noted, assume her hair to be down and her body covered.
--- Average height I guess, Idk. Getting a little rounder with years but not overweight.
--- Sounds like this when she talks. It's a whole big working class English thing, and a raspy, somewhat deep-ish for a woman kind of voice.
--- And like this when she talks to machines.

*Has a very complicated accent that I remember Paul F Tompkins detailing once but, quite frankly, he sounds basically like actor and comedian Paul F Tompkins.

*Average height.

*Always has AT LEAST a flask in his hand. Preferably a glass. Preferably a glass and a bottle. Preferably full. Then not. Time for a new bottle.

*No, seriously, is ALWAYS drunk. There's no point during which he's even a little sober if he can help it. Part of it is to help with DARK SECRETS FROM HIS PAST. But most of it is because he loves drinking and getting drunk like you love your mother. Assuming you love your mother enough to put her in a glass and drink her.

*Still, functions remarkably well aside from memory (which had more to do about not caring about things besides drinking). And sometimes anger. And finding himself more entertaining than the people dealing with him do.

*He doesn't mind that people are incredulous about his drinking, mostly because he doesn't care about you and likely does not remember your name right now.

*Dresses in a full suit, bow tie preferred but not exclusive at all times. Perhaps even while asleep.

April:

- Is very short. Probably 5 feet even.
- Is also super petite frame-wise, and pretty flat-chested as well.
- Has long, wavy red hair that she tends to wear with a ribbon in it. She doesn't bother putting it up.
- Is the no-freckles type of ginger, but has that pale ginger complexion that goes rosy easily.
- Wears trendy, colorful clothes. She basically looks like she just raided a Wet Seal. She'll match short shorts and leggings with a blazer and have like five different solid colors in one outfit.
- Has goldish eyes that are noticeably gigantic, like some kind of Powerpuff Girl come to life. Seriously, in canon she's the only one whose eyes are drawn out like that.
- Is always wearing makeup or jewelry, even if it's impractical for her current adventure. Lipstick and mascara are a part of her morning routine every single day and she usually will be wearing earrings and a bracelet, if not a necklace too. I also feel like she probably wears fragrances.
- She keeps a scrunchie on her wrist even though she doesn't put her hair up often. It's for slingshotting, see.
- Carries a journal around with her and will sometimes jot down notes about her environment if something weird is afoot, but she won't be ducking into it during conversations or anything weird.
- Has no discernable accent ~~because I don't know where the heck she's from~~.
- Voice-wise, probably sounds just like Holland Roden, whose voice I very much enjoy.
- Doesn't swear. Ever. If she's really affected by something, her go-to expletive is "What the junk?" She also has a habit of invoking the names of famous women when she's shocked, as in, "Holy Mae Jemison!" If asked about it, she'll act like that is totally normal to do and you're the weird one.
- Has that superstrength thing, so she can probably lift anything you've got, or arm-wrestle a stone statue or whatever.
- I'm sure she has some scars, but no shapes that canon details explicitly. But you're free to notice an odd scar or two on her.
- 92% of the time, friendliness is just oozing out of her voice and she's smiling. Otherwise she's probably tearing you apart.
- Has pierced earlobes and that's it. No tattoos to speak of either.
- Talks with her hands. A lot.
- Is really perceptive when it comes to other people's moods, so the more you give me, the more she'll be able to pick up on and react to.

*On the tallish end of the spectrum, at about 5'7.

*Has three piercings in each ear; one on the lobe and two in the helix she's going to have to try to explain to her parents. Some day. Also a chainmail shirt, apparently.

*Used to dress terribly, thanks to heading off to school with a closet full of hand-me-downs, but after a class on fashion with Irene Adler, is making more conscious fashion decisions. Still tends towards bright colors, but now is far more likely to be showing a lot of leg.

*Has great legs due to 10+ years of gymnastics and now somewhat excessive running. Overall, is built like a gymnast and is ridiculously flexible.

*Has to remember to move at 'normal human speeds.' Moves uncannily fast when she's not paying attention, roughly 3X faster than baseline humans do. Has to also remember not to fidget, but she has so much energy, it's hard not to.

*Crazy fast metabolism means she is usually snacking on something. She will always, always have at least a few granola bars on her or something.

*Can hit 9 times per second and hits hard. She's got slightly-better-than-average strength (thanks to training), but has physics on her side: F=MV. Her fists may be small, but they move very, very fast. If hitting doesn't work, there are other ways to use momentum to take someone down.

*Sounds like this when she sings. Which she does a lot, to an eclectic assortment of music.

*Almost always carries a backpack which contains her Banzai uniform (to appearances, a white karate gi adorned with rainbows and upgraded by Barry. It has pockets!), her improvised weapons, a few knives, a few books/comic books, a first aid kit, snacks, and various other useful things, like pencils, tissues, etc. Look, it's important to be prepared.

*Honestly, everything else I post will just be an excuse to raid my gif collection, so I'm going to leave this here.

→ To quote Ada herself: I'm fish-belly pale and slim as a slip, with long dark hair that curls like wood shavings and eyes the color of deep water. She's tall, around 5'6" and still growing, and pretty much matches her PB perfectly.

→ Ada Miller is a carnie. The carnival is in her blood, in her bones, and she was born on the midway, which, according to her Uncle Chester, is "better than a kewpie doll." She can pick a pocket, fix a ferris wheel, cheat at any game, perform some tricky sleight-of-hand, and talk a mark into buying a ticket for a game they both know is rigged. She's swagger and glitter and top hats and the dust of the road, the best barker the Millers have, always looking behind at where she's been and never looking forward.

→ Vegetarian. If you ask, she'll just say it's for medical reasons.

→ Ada is also an amnesiac. She doesn't really remember the last seventeen years of her life. It's there, deep in her blood, but while she appears to intuitively Know Things (Chester is Uncle, weighted baseballs are for midway games), she doesn't Remember much if she's asked directly. She DOES carry a laminated card around with her with important info - her name, room number, blood type, allergies... because sometimes she'll just blank and need to check it.

→ Any given day, Ada is wearing shorts or a skirt, a tank-top, and slightly large cowboy boots. And a LOT of body glitter. She uses it to camouflage her scales...

→ Oh yeah, and she's a mermaid.

→ Ada can breathe underwater, swim faster and longer than any human, and see in the deep dark water. However, it comes with a price. If she goes into the ocean to save a classmate from drowning...well, you'd best hope she wrote on her arm in sharpie what she needs to do, because she might not remember that she needs to save a human once her head is under the waves.

→ Right now, she does NOT have a tail! Her legs are still legs, thankfully. She just has webbed toes (hence her hate of shoes and inability to wear ones in her size), and very small webs between her fingers, shimmery scales juuuuust barely bigger than body glitter at the small of her back, tops of her thighs, and in the fold of her elbow. If you cut Ada, she bleeds blood, it's just got different DNA.

*But generally dresses kind of skaterpunk, with long sleeves under T-shirts, loose pants, knit hats, cargo jackets, etc.
*Oh and scarves. Lots of scarves. Boy loves his scarves
*Is wearing his earbud unless he's in the shower or asleep (and even that one's roughly 50/50).
*Always has electronics and electronic parts of him. Because you never know when you'll have to hack a satellite with a cellphone, an RFID chip, and some wire
*Is wanted in Iceland. This isn't something you'll notice but it gives me such joy.

*She's very skinny and to her mild disappointment, doesn't have much in the way of breasts.
*Tends to dress in dark colors, mostly jeans, t-shirts, a long leather coat, and boots
*Will usually be carrying her sword, but she will ALWAYS have a small knife tucked into her pocket.
*She's usually wearing a small silver cross. Religious symbols aren't a thing for her.
*Has the usual vampire traits of strength & speed. She can also hear and smell, really, really well.
*She doesn't need to breath but still does it out of habit just to fit in.
*Can stand perfectly still for hours at a time if necessary.
