SUMMER SESSION 2 WORKSHOP SIGN-UP

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Summer 2016 Session 2 Workshops! These sign-ups are for ALL students (but not graduating seniors. Believe me, I've made that mistake many, many years in a row...)!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) For any classes that exceed their maximum numbers:

a. If you have two characters signed up for one class, one will be ousted (so make a note of who you'd prefer to get the spot).
b. Student characters played by the teacher of the class will also get ousted.
c. Students who have already taken the same class from the same teacher will also be eliminated, so please note in your ping if you're attempting to repeat the course.
d. If the class still has too many, the Random Number Generator (RNG) will be used to determine the roster from the remaining sign-ups. If you have been RNG'd out, we will let you know as soon as possible so you can choose a second alternative.

3) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

4) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

5) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

6) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

7) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

And now we get to what you really want to see: Summer Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Thursday, June 30th. No late sign-ups will be allowed without extenuating circumstances or prior arrangements, so sign up early in case something comes up! If you don't sign up on time, you'll have to wait until the fall to play, woe.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MON: Period 1: Even More Flight & Flying (A. Skywalker & Solo)

Think you've flown them all? Not even close! Learn to fly even more tarships from two of the best pilots their galaxy has ever seen (if one of them does say so himself).

MON: Period 2: Relationships for Dummies (Carlysle & Wilson)

As taught by two dummies in a relationship. Learn the ups and down of being with someone. The ins and outs. The best of times, the worst of times! The--okay, that's about it. Wait! The Sasha Fierce to the Beyoncé. Now we're done.

MON: Period 3: Practical Philosophy (Andrew Skywalker)

At its heart, philosophy isn't about Plato, Nietzsche, or Hegel. It's about thinking about the greater frameworks of our worlds and our lives. Practical Philosophy strives to unite personal experiences with greater thought. Class participation not optional: discussion, challenge and argument are what make us think. And thinking's what we're about.

TUESDAY

TUE: Period 1: Coping With Change (Starsmore & Palmer)

Change happens. Whether for better or worse (usually for worse), the one constant in life is that nothing really stays the same. This class focuses on changes, no matter how extreme, that students might find overwhelming, and outlines coping strategies that might be employed in order to help students get back on with their lives. Such as they are.

TUE: Period 2: Extreme PE 2: PE Harder (Bond)

Even more sports that would require a deathwish and legal liability waiver to participate in without the aid of the Danger Shop.

TUE: Period 3: Gymnastics is Life (Parker)

Gymnastics is useful! No, really. From having to break into your own house to needing to balance over a gorge, we're going to explore all the different gymnastic events and how you could use them in life past the Olympics.

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Outdoorsmanship 101 (Spencer)

GPS and airconditioning are great, but you never know when you're going to get shipwrecked or kidnapped and left for dead in the wilderness with a lack of wifi access. And you've all been here long enough now to understand that even if that wasn't true for you BEFORE, Fandom makes it true now. Join Eliot for the basics in wilderness survival, including analog navigation skills and how not to poison yourself and die while foraging for food.

WED: Period 2: Sex Ed (Death & Constantine)

You're teenagers, which means most of you are going through hormonal changes and your brain chemistry makes you do stupid shite. Which means Dee and I get to try and convince you to be less-stupid about it. What do you mean that's not a good class description? You're a fucking squirrel don't judge--

Condoms, birth control, consent, basic health... contemporary human sexuality can be confusing, especially if you're time-tossed, from an alternate universe, or another galaxy. This basic crash-course from Death of the Endless (who's seen it all) and John Constantine (who's done a lot of shite you shouldn't), should hopefully clear up some of the confusion, and keep you from making any unfortunate mistakes with someone you're interested in.

WED: Period 3: How to Be Awesome (Whittemore)

Being awesome is pretty great, right? If your answer is a resounding "... uh, I dunno", fret not! This workshop will teach you all about the basics of personal awesomeness! Led by Jackson Whittemore of Fandom High's Class of 2014, the workshop will cover such topics as cultivating your awesomeness through the right kind of thinking, being awesome in relationships, and surrounding yourself with awesome people – and it will also touch on what things might be a danger to your awesomeness.

THURS: Period 1: Working With Jerks. Still. (Rogers & Stark)

Most of you are going to have to get a job in your life, and that means working with people. Annoying, annoying people. This workshop'll teach you some strategies other than "punching them in the head" to work with conflicting personality types.

THUR: Period 2: Writing the Great American (Romance) Novel (Karla)

While this is a workshop that can be taken by anyone interested in creative writing, the focus is going to be on romance novels and the many, many subgenres that they belong to. This class will cover the six most important elements of a romance novel. Also, I saw the last time this was taught, it was by the crazy vampire and the students deserve better, Mother Night.

THURS: Period 3: More Adventuring for Idiots (Cara)

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: How to Win Friends and Influence People (Jarrus & ...of Bainbridge)

The multiverse is home to a lot of people. Some of them might want to be helpful, some of them might want to hurt you, and the vast majority couldn't care less about you. Use this class to help change that. Topics will include: How Not to Piss People Off, Ways to Make People do What You Want Without Resorting to Force Persuasion, Convincing People of Nearly Anything Without Them Catching On, How Not to Get Punched in the Skull Face, and other useful advice as taught by two guys who obviously didn't have a handy book around to teach them these things.

FRI: Period 2: Throwing Things: Lessons in Athletics and War From a Distance (Myers)

rom baseballs to dodgeballs to grenades, this class focuses on the art of throwing things for all kinds of purposes. Part gym class, part war games (yes, dodgeball applies to both), you will learn how to throw things with both power and skill.

FRI: Period 3: So You Just Met Your Relative From the Future ( B. Skywalker & Kenobi)

Whether its a doppelganger, your future father, or the child you haven't had yet, Fandom loves to throw a few twists your way in your time here. Now that we've covered the basics, we'll throw some more interactive scenarios your way!

COMMUNITY CENTER CLASSES

You don't have to sign up, but it helps to give the teacher an idea of how many folks might be coming! Community center classes are open to teachers, students, and townies.

MON: International Cuisine (Lecter)

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the various cuisines of Earth, or to sample them yourself and perhaps learn a bit about the cultures they come from? Join Dr. Hannibal Lecter on a tour of cuisines - we'll have lunch or dinner at a different restaurant in a different country every week.
