SPRING 2017 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2017 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Thursday, December 29th.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MONDAY

MON: Period 1: Adulting 101 (Pryde-Barton)

The adult world can be intimidating, so this class will teach anyone who's about to or even just thinking about venturing into it how to do all the stuff independent adults have to do but never get taught.

MON: Period 2: Hands On History of the American Civil War (Algren & Robicheaux)

Learn the history of the war between the states from people who were there for it! In this class, taught by two veterans of the American Civil War, students are challenged to analyze and re-think their conceptions of the Civil War in particular, and of war in general, through a series of lectures and practical activities that teach what life was really like during the war.

MON: Period 3: How to Shoot Straight (Rand)

Look, do I need to make this any more obvious? Because it's about shooting things with a variety of things, and-- are you writing this down? Stop writing this down. I'm a guy about to run a class on shooting things, blasting things, and other kinds of-- hurling things. Do you think this is funny? Do you-- (several pages of ranting follows)

TUESDAY

TUE: Period 1: Home Ec (Spencer)

Cooking. Cleaning. Sewing and mending. Managing expenses. There's a lot more to keeping a home than those who call "stay-at-home" family members "unemployed" want you to think. If you've ever wanted to know more about the domestic arts, or just want to jump straight into a "grown-up" home and skip the futon-mattress-on-the-floor stage of your life, this is the class for you!

TUE: Period 2: Training Wheels (Bond)

Knowing how to drive a car is a valuable, if not vital, skill. However cars may not be the only thing you may be called upon to drive. Advanced Driver's Ed gives primers in learning to drive various kinds of both on and off-road vehicles.

TUE: Period 3: Event Planning (Carlysle)

Did you know that planning any sort of special event involves apparently five million steps? Your teacher didn't, either, until she started planning a wedding, and hoo boy. Learn how to pull off a fancy party or other special event from someone who's in the thick of it!

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Pokemon Going (Wilson)

Wow, they're still letting me teach? Let's see how far I can push it, kiddos. This class is about the phone game Pokemon Go. Get ready to walk and capture fictional animals to shove into balls. All types of balls.

WED: Period 2: Urban Survival (Sparkle)

Nobody is really immune to hard times. It's hard to accept it, people certainly don't want to think about it, but there's always that chance that life will take a turn for the worse, and there won't necessarily be a safety net in one's time of need. Keeping in mind that not all cities are created equal, this class focuses on basic needs that people should know to look for, should their situation leave them wanting for things such as shelter, clothing, food, and a means to stay in touch with the outside world while trying to get back on one's feet.

THURSDAY

THUR: Period 1: Civics (Rogers & Stark)

This course will increase students' understanding of the duties and rights of a citizen of the United States of America, along with how the government ought to work. Also how it can go horribly, horribly wrong.

THUR: Period 2: Don't Be a Hero (Cara)

Because heroics will get you very, very dead.

On the other hand, if you would like to learn how to accomplish your goals, fight the monster, whatever, without getting yourself and others killed, then there's hope for you.

THUR: Period 3: Creative Cooking With a Focus on Pudding (Wonka)

New foods don’t simply pop into the world unannounced! This is twice as true for desserts, and thrice as true for desserts that fizzle, pop, or float you into the sky! In this course you will enrich your minds and your plates, churning your own ice creams, baking your own biscuits, mixing up your own drinks and of course, moulding your own chocolates. I will also be pleased to share with you some of my other, less conventional cooking techniques, for cooking decidedly unconventional sweets. The final exam will involve presenting a dish of your own creation.

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Practical Diplomacy (Kenobi & Skywalker)

Have you ever wondered how a class like Ethics would work in the real world? Masters Kenobi and Skywalker are here to show you! Explore exotic locations! Meet interesting beings interested in killing each other and/or you! Figure out just which principles you hold are absolute, and which ones have more wiggle room than you might have first anticipated...and also how well some of your more inspired ideas would *really* work.

FRI: Period 2: Discovering Earth (Jarrus & Lecter)

A field trip class in the vein of Dr. Lecter's field trip classes of the past, this class puts an emphasis on Earth's most beautiful offerings, giving a grand tour of the best that the planet has to offer. Students will be given an opportunity to experience first-hand the vast diversity of wonders, natural and man-made, big and small, that make up the planet that many of us call home.

FRI: Period 3: Drivers Ed (O'Conner)

If you don't know what a car is but want to learn, don't know how to drive but need to learn, or know how to drive but want some tips on how to do it really really fast, this is the class for you. We'll also cover basic car maintenance, etc., because paying someone to change your oil is for chumps.

NPC CLASSES

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
