SPRING 2018 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2018 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Each player may only sign up for a MAXIMUM of 8 PC classes, spread among your student characters in any way you choose, as long as each has the minimum of 2. (Yes, this means that if you only have one student, you could sign them up for 8 classes. Just think carefully about whether you have the availability to handle that.)

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2 / maximum 8 courses. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up, so the character won't be counted towards the class-maximum of 20 students. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Thursday, December 28th..

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. You have to eat to stay alive. Unless you're a robot. Or an extra-dimensional being. Or the undead. Whatever. Most of you brats need food and not everyone cares about cooking, but sometimes you get sick of the same old fast food. So, come learn recipes to spice up ramen you broke little shits.

MON: Period 3: World Mythology (Atreides)

A whirlwind tour of stories from around the globe, World Mythology is intended to give students a gentle introduction to various pantheons and mythologies around this planet/dimension. No culture or country will examined in-depth, instead, the class will focus on a broad collection of myths and legends.

TUESDAY

TUES: Period 1: Creative Weaponry (Blackstone)

Ever found yourself in one of those rare moments without a weapon on hand, only to discover that you really need one? Sure you have; who hasn't? Annoying as they may be, they're bound to happen. So here's a class to help you think on your feet, tap into creativity and problem solving, to make sure you're always armed and ready...even without a blade in the most conventional sense. Creative Weaponry will put its students in a new situation every week, where certain resources will be available to test your metal (get it?) in creating the (mostly) perfect weapon for every (definitely) imperfect situation. Where there's a will, there's a way (and plenty of duct tape!).

TUES: Period 2: Beginning Gourmet Cooking Techniques (Lecter)

Good cooking begins with simple steps - choosing the right ingredients, having the right tools, and knowing how to use them. This class will introduce techniques that can be used at any level of cooking expertise to improve the experience and end product. Class topics will include everything from buying produce to making palatable coffee, as well as the further application of the techniques learned.

TUES: Period 3: Don't Do the Thing: Decision Making For Dummies (Aphra)

The galaxy is a hostile place, and sometimes it's hard to know the right thing to do. Not in a moral sense, but in a practical, survivable one. Good thing I'mhere to show you the way.

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: The Cryptozoologist's Field Guide (Price)

Ignoring what some OTHER teachers might have tried to pass along as information about cryptids, this is the class you want to take to learn about ghoulies, ghosties, and long-legged beasties. Or, rather, ghouls, griffins, and bogeymen (ghosts aren't technically classified as cryptids). Real cryptids taught by a real cryptozoologist.

WED: Period 2: Earth Zoology (Jenkins)

The Earth is full of strange, beautiful, hilarious, adorable, and fantastic animals. So full, in fact, that there is literally no way to ever learn all about all of them, even if you've lived for thousands of years. But that's no reason not to try anyway.

From axolotls to zebra fish. Aardvarks to zooplankton. Aigikampoi to Žiburinis. Each week we'll learn about one -- or more! -- of the fascinating creatures that exist somewhere on some version of the Earth, and if at all possible without getting your teacher fired, meet them in person. Jenkins will even do his best not to repeat himself from last semester.

WED: Period 3: Sleeping With Your Eyes Open and Other Practical Diplomacy (Skywalker)

Learn how to pretend you've done the reading, how to fake caring about people at parties, and how to be mean without really stupid people realizing it! Diplomacy: Anakin Skywalker style.*

THURSDAY

THURS: Period 1: Friendship and Stabbing: an Adventurer's Guide (Burnsides & Cara)

Sometimes you find yourself in knee deep in the adventure zone and need a little help to keep from getting killed. This class will teach you how to, as a group, survive what gets thrown your way. Or it'll just end in a TPK. Uh, try to avoid that?

THURS: Period 2: Urban Survival - The Uglier Side of City Living (Sparkle)

... I had a long fancy write-up for this class the last time I taught it, but it's been a hard frigging December, so I'm going to be blunt. It's a homelessness how-to. It isn't fun, but it's good to know. Take this class at your own risk, students. Maybe instead of a final I'll bring in puppies or something.

THURS: Period 3: Art (Hardison)

It's art class, kids. Mess around with paints, clay, styrofoam-carving, stained glass, color theory, and more. I could go on and on explaining why art is important to your education but--it's art class. Come relax for an hour a week and be creative. Be your own architect of happy little trees.

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Music Appreciation (Lecter & Starsmore)

An exploration of social and psychological themes in music, from the Renaissance to the modern era, with an introduction to instrumentation and composition elements. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of musical styles and topics encompassing shared themes that have been universal to humanity throughout history.

FRI: Period 2: Lies Your Other American History Teachers Told You (Rogers & Stark)

If you think history is boring or makes no sense, chances are it's because people have left out the interesting and not-so-flattering parts for you. We're not going to do that! We're going to tell you the actual truth about, say, President Andrew Jackson, or the Civil War generals who undercut each other to be better positioned for presidential campaigns, or how Ponce de Leon came searching for slaves and not the Fountain of Youth.

Laugh a minute class here, folks.

NPC CLASSES

Nerds.

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
