FALL 2018 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2018 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve. Excess numbers in classes will be whittled down with the handy-dandy Random Number Generator (RNG).

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. It's Shop Class! You build things! What kind of things? Wood things! Metal things! Electric things! Weapons things! All sorts of things, as taught by a master builder herself. So come build some projects and learn various tools and enjoy the firm sense of accomplishment when you go ahead and make a thing.

MON: Period 2: Davis: Badass Women You Should Know

This class will teach you all about notable women through history, while also giving you an insight into what things were like in their times, as long as I can make that work. Look, I didn't even sign up to teach last time, this is progress.

MON: Period 3: Carlysle & Wilson: The Circle of Life

It's not just an stirring Elton John ballad for a Disney movie, it's a real thing. We were shocked too. Learn about how you are a part of a vast web of life that involves birth, death, sex, betrayal--wait, no not the last one, Siri. No, I said to delete it. Fine. Duck it, Submit that motherducker.

MON: Period 4: Carter & Fjord: How to Make Friends & Influence People

For the better! Not for your own selfish needs. Enjoy smol good religion boy and big good warlock boy as they join forces to bring you FRIENDSHIP. Enjoy fifteen classes of learning what to do and what not to do to navigate through a variety of social situations. Examine the power of manners, both good and bad and the role that social expectations and mores play in how your actions are interpreted. Come prepared for conversation, homemade cookies, and leave with the tools to make, and keep, new friends!

TUESDAY

Learn the secrets of unlocking flavor and nutrition from Karla, one of the most renowned Karla, notorious is different than renowned. HUSH THEY'RE PRACTICALLY THE SAME cooks to grace the dorms of Fandom High.

TUES: Period 2: Diaz: Bad Ass Bitch Survival Guide

Being a bad ass bitch isn't something that can be taught, you've either got it or you don't, but you can still learn to survive like one. Or something. I don't know, just take the class. Or don't. I really don't care.

TUES: Period 3: Aphra & Skywalker: Practical Ethics

In the heat of the moment, a bad choice can have lifelong consequences. Here we'll talk out the decisions before they get you airlocked.

WED: Period 1: Yang: Humanoid Health and First Aid

Life happens, and in Fandom it seems to happen extra often. There won't always be a magical healer on hand to take care of things when it does, so join Dr. Cristina Yang, MD, for a crash course in emergency medicine! Learn life-saving techniques like CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, practicing on realistic Danger Shop patients. It's the next best thing to actually going to medical school.

WED: Period 2: Atreides: Mad Kings & Queens: Raving Royals and How To Survive Them

Many of us have been inspired at some point by great men and women in history. The past, however, was also shaped by the insane, the irrational, and the degenerate -- people with absolute power and few inhibitions.

From the whimsical to the deranged, we will explore the catalogue of chaos and depravity left in their wake, and look at various ways they were removed from power.

As always, this course is not recommended for the faint-of-heart.

WED: Period 3: Lecter: Nailed It!

Think you don't need to learn to cook? Think you're already a good cook? Think neither is the case, but you're interested in learning how to further your skills? This class will follow the format of the show Nailed It! - students will be presented with a recipe and its finished version, courtesy of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. They will then be expected to make that recipe from scratch themselves, and will be judged upon them. After that, Dr. Lecter will instruct them on how they might do better in the future. Class will be held in the Danger Shop to avoid catastrophic mishaps, and may feature outside guest judges.

THURSDAY

THUR: Period 1: Burnsides & Cara: Team! Synergy!

In today's dog-eat-dog marketplace, teamwork is the best way to get ahead, Through this inventive, interactive course, you'll discover the best ways to synergise your team for effective cooperative fun and a better working environment. It's super effective!

THUR: Period 2: Fair: Fur, Feathers, and Scales: The Biology of Domestication

Throughout recorded history, humanity has had a close relationship with other animals, from the canines we keep companionship with to the livestock we keep for food. In this class, students will be introduced to creatures that have shared our lives and our homes, and will hopefully gain an appreciation for the roles they continue to play in our lives today.

*Allergy Alert: Most, if not all of the animals students will be introduced to will be real! Let your instructor know if you have any animal allergies and he'll try his best to accomodate.

THUR: Period 3: O'Hara: Popular Science (How Not to be Mad)

Except, seriously, if you're signing up for this then you WANT to be mad, right? Right. So it's going to be mad science, let's be real. Slave away under a man who is DEFINITELY mad for the next fifteen weeks by trying to mimic your betters (okay, given some of you they may not ACTUALLY be your betters) from various forms of media as they make things go boom, crash, bang! You might even learn how to improve upon the madness. Can you do it? Should you do it? Dare you do it?

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Rogers & Stark: Civics

An informed electorate is essential for a functioning democracy. Otherwise they end up believing in human trafficking happening in pizza places that DON'T EVEN HAVE BASEMENTS and everything is stupid. In this class Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will explain the US system of government: how it should work and where it's gone terribly, terribly off the rails. Extra credit will always be given for attending protests or Congressional hearings.

FRI: Period 2: Shokudaikiri: Japanese Blades

Learn about swords and spears from Japan's history directly from their own recollections and stories. Activities to accompany each visit!

FRI: Syndulla & Jarrus: Pay It Forward: Making a Big Difference in Little Ways

Big improvements often start in small plquaces. While a butterfly flapping its wings might not really be able to create a tidal wave, there's still something to be said for the ripple effect, for the way one small change can radiate outward in order to affect so much more of the world than one might expect at first. In a life that's too often full of hardship and despair, a friendly gesture, an expression of hope, can sometimes make all the difference. In this class, get involved. Have a hand in creating that difference, starting with the smallest gesture and, hopefully, eventually building into a tidal wave of change for the better.

COMMUNITY CENTER CLASSES

These classes are offered for all characters--townies, teachers, and students--to take. Because they're more casual, it's not essential to sign up for them here to attend them, but it's nice to give the players an idea of participation levels.

TUESDAY: Octavian: Modern Earth Entertainment

Movie night, continued! For those of us who are modern-Earth challenged, we'll be watching movies in an effort to better understand pop culture. We may also branch out into other modern entertainment, if there is interest.

NPC CLASSES

Nerds.

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
