Winter BDE: Snow Monsters Redux!
Greetings and salutations! The end of the semester is nigh, bringing with it thoughts of holiday treats, strange polar bears handing out sodas, and the BDE! This year we're bringing back a foe we haven't faced since the dawn of time Winter of 2006: SNOW MONSTERS!
They're bigger, they're badder, they are really unhappy about global warming!
...and they still bear an uncanny resemblance to Calvin and Hobbes' snowmen.
Here's how it'll play out:
Wednesday, December 19: A blizzard comes into Fandom, knocking out regular power supplies due to the heavy snow and winds. Smartypants with generators feel smug, the community center and school spontaneously generate fireplaces for coziness/not freezing to death for those without generators to slumber party it up. In the heavy snow of the blizzard, the arrival of a Giant Glacier of Doom, snapped off from the Arctic due to climate change and floating over by Ingvar, goes relatively unnoticed.
Thursday, December 20: It is still blizzarding. This is clearly not an Advent calendar shenanigan, and also it's flipping cold outside. The generators owned by the smartypants start being destroyed by *dun-dun-dun* snoooooow monsters, brought to Fandom via the Giant Glacier of Doom. The monsters are only appearing in singles/pairs for now, and can be modded for your fighty needs. You can also ask a friendly neighborhood mod to play a fight sequence out with you. The Glacier of Doom can also be seen through the snow, along with the snow monsters on it practicing their dance moves, carrying placards protesting global warming, and plotting to kill us all.
Friday, December 21: The blizzard has finally stopped but there is now a good two feet of snow on the ground, with drifts that can completely cover doorways. It's really tough to get around unless you are a snow monster. The snow monsters are tooootally ready to get you if you pop out of the few places that are warm, and are now running around in larger gangs of five-to-ten. Clearly they've got to go. Plotting to get rid of them commences!
Saturday, December 22: Big fighty/protest/dance scenes in town and outside the school walls. Research teams get together to combine their amazing/ridiculous ideas and send what monsters remain--but more importantly, the glacier--away. And then there's hot cocoa.
How can snow monsters hurt my character?
They're made of snow and ice, so think concussions, broken bones, and puncture wounds from icicles. If your character gets knocked out and left in the snow, exposure could also be a problem.
How do we beat them?!
Well, they're made of snow, so they melt. Coffee, hot water, lightsabers, battery-powered hair dryer, peeing on them (WE REMEMBER YOU, OLD SHEP), are all effective, but the monsters can re-form a few minutes later as long as there's still snow around. Making sure they're all gone means getting rid of the glacier itself, but we can't melt it down completely because that would raise the level of the ocean too much.
To mix this up, we've decided to try out two research groups--one centered in town and one in the school since getting between the two areas is going to be tough--to brainstorm solutions. We have a few ideas as back-ups, but we wanted to see what you crazy people came up with on your own. We'll limit the research groups to four characters each for ease of conversation/coding and will RNG it on Sunday, December 16 if we get more volunteers than we need. We've also added a brainstorming OOC thread down here for those who have amazing ideas but not necessarily a character who could pull them off.
Since we're close to Christmas and the New Year, this is going to be a pretty light, fun event where you can get as involved as your RL lets you. We will be preplaying the glacier removal, but everything else will be live!

Sign me up for researching!
Re: Sign me up for researching!
BUT ALSO, if you need someone who can communicate island-wide without benefit of electricity, hello, this boy also happens to be a telepath. Could very well touch base from time to time with whoever is on the school team, too.

Snow, a coat, a bright, white coat
Ray, a drop of midnight sun
Ski, some long and polished wood
Firn, snow that's not much fun!

... Possibly have it as the condition for losing a dance-off contest.
Re: OOC: Brainstorming!
(Though oh my god, I want Nu's idea badly.)

Re: OOC: Brainstorming!
Throw frozen sharks at itTie ropes around it and use jets/spaceships to drag it back to the arctic!. . . Also, I'm terrible and I want a really big ritzy ocean liner to crash into it. (One with enough lifeboats, though)
Re: OOC: Brainstorming!
I'm just sayin'.

Regular, mint, the kind with far too many marshmallows (like that's a thing), and my personal favorite: with cinnamon and a touch of cayenne pepper.
We are open to other flavors as well ;)

It does not, however, let you pee sleet like the snow monsters can.
