meme: do you know my canon?

I don't wanna today! So let's have a meme we haven't done since November 2017.

Ping in with your canon (as specifically as you'd like for giant insane comic, SW and Power Ranger stuff). Then wait for other people to ping in with their canons! If you're familiar with it, tell them! And then, yay, new people to squee with!

Rick & Morty

"Good news, everyone! We've just signed a contract for 70 new episodes! When will those episodes come out? NOoooooo one knows! Probably 2019. Maybe! Late 2019. Or, you know, also possibly never! Is this a great strategy for an absurdly popular franchise? I love it. It's perfect."

....

At least we have comics? So I apologize to everyone for the impending adventures that will likely require you to read the words "Mr. Poopybutthole" again and again.

My first experience of R&M was actually back when our studio was testing for it, before the rest of the world got any idea of what it was at all. I saw... a pilot or an animatic or something, and stared in horror for a good long while, and then backed away slowly.

We didn't get the show, either, but I think that's beacuse another studio under-bid us.

SUMMER MAKES ME WANT TO TRY AGAIN.

...it...had a very wide swing, I'll put it that way.

And that makes me wonder if what you saw was what wound up being the actual pilot, or if it was more along the lines of Roiland's original animation that inspired what eventually became R&M, in which case...yes, you were very right to slowly back away, because it...is....yeaaaah. I'm still faintly amazed that anyone managed to build a good show out of what started as badly animated gross-out Back to the Future slash fic.

~And that's my canon origins!!~~~

My sweet little terrible baby has grown up so much since then!

It is sometime amazing and brilliant and so clever, and then it turns around and gives you the dumbest, grossest, stupidest shit you've ever seen, and then turns around and punches you straight in the gut, then kicks you when you're down. I love it, I hate it, I MISS IT SO MUCH.

You know, I have no idea which it was? But now that I know those were two completely different things, I might have to hunt the pilot down and give it a peek, too. :O

Because I recall a lot of gross-out.

There's still plenty of gross-out (they...know their main demographic), but at least it's not all gross-out and it gets progressively better. The pilot is absolute crap; I've seen it probably a million times and barely ever remember anything about it, and the quality shoots up about 100% from there.

I have seen... a good number of episodes? My former roommates loved this show, and I'd sometimes watch with them.
