A NEW MEME! One Song Showoff

I went looking for a song meme and either something hasn't been tagged or you guys haven't done one since 2014. I asked if I could post a new one and the Admins kindly said I could. Crappy week is craptacular and I need some random music therapy so here you go!

Choose one song that is the most "your character". It could be their soundtrack theme song, it could be their soundtrack fight song, it could be a song that hits you in the feels because those lyrics make you think of them every time you hear it. Whichever you choose, you can only post one song. Tell us why that song matters.

If you don't have a song, tag in with your characters and post 'HELP' and brace for impact as anyone with an idea posts what they think it should be.

Songs should be posted with title and artist with links to the lyrics if possible. Bonus points if you can find a YouTube link that has accurate subtitles in English!

This one was more accurate awhile ago, but it still comes up sometimes. And is useful in that it means a lot of different things about multiple people.

Not cheating. I have two whole 'Jack's Themes' to play with, thank you crazy Bioware fans who grabbed the music from her scenes, but the new song was too delicious not to use. Yay for official theme songs!

Hey, to make this more interactive, can other people ping in with songs they have of other people's characters?

I'm going to vote that if people ask, yes. If they don't ask, no. Music can be incredibly personal and I wouldn't want even an accidental 'I got a better one' of a song someone feels intensely personal about for their character, you know? But there are several people who've asked so - go for it in those threads!

This one's easy, because I have an official character playlist (that's a Spotify link) and word-of-god that "Blood in the Cut" by K. Flay (NB: definitely NSFW lyrics, but here's the lyric video, now that I'm back at a keyboard) is the quintessential Beauregard song, and I absolutely concur. Without all the heterosexual stuff, anyway.

That said I'd love to see what other people think!

This is on my playlist because it came on the 'radio mix' for Spotify the day after Seivarden came to DN the first time and it made me laugh thinking of Jack doing karaoke at her. The lyrics are awful and misogynist, but the mocking sing-song tone to it and the chorus are what hit me and made me giggle inappropriately.

Of all of my characters, apparently Zack is the easy one? Go figure!

I mean, canon gives me Why by Ayaka (and the song with translated lyrics, sorry they're white over pale blue, it was either this or grainy footage of Zack dying)...

But if I had to pick one that just constantly hits me as Zack, I'd go with Soldiers by Otherwise. It's just SO DETERMINED, and... pretty much summarizes his life, dammit. Lyric Video here!

I'm kinda digging Whatever It Takes as a Fjord song (Lyric Video here) because it's every bit as much about grabbing the future as it comes at him and being hell-bent on getting swept up in it as it is about leaving behind the life he used to have and moving past being the person he used to be.

Sparkle is the one who gets One Man Army (with the only lyric video I could find, but at least with the exception of a 'you' where a 'your' should be and an 'I remember drowning' where Raine - but not Sparkle's Raine - is actually singing 'I remember crawling,' it's pretty spot-on).

SOMEONE had to get One Man Army. And with Sparkle I always feel guilty when I don't give him show tunes or something, but he can live with Torontonian 90s post-grunge instead, the little twerp.

It's just... the most 'fuck you, you can't stop me, I'm still going in spite of all of it' song I have at my disposal, and it hits a lot of literal beats with Sparkle - the arson, specifically, but also the history of being overlooked and abused and lied to. He's not quite so angry these days, it it's still apt.

... Alternatively I could have picked Green Day's Jesus of Suburbia, (Lyric Video) because it is both very him aaaaaand the Official Music Video (which might or might not work outside of Canada, yay official video licensing!) is where I got all of his old 'raccoon eyes' icons from. All of them. It's a twelve-minute video. I was not hurting for icon source even though it's a very specific look. ETA- Trigger Warnings on that official video! Self-harm, substance abuse, abusive relationships, I had forgotten just HOW bad it was, my bad.

Sorry, on top of finding an excellent song for Norman, you linked me to a song I haven't been able to figure out the name of for months now so don't mind me I'm gonna go buy this on Google Play RIGHT NOW before I lose it THANK YOU.

This one was actually way too easy, this time around. Which is funny, because Jono is usually so difficult, because HOW DO YOU PICK JUST ONE?

Buuut ever since canon gave me a tidbit about how Jono has Smiths Lyrics tattooed to his hip, there was a DIVINE MISSION to pick the right Smith's song. And with Llwy's help, I settled on How Soon Is Now? (lyric video) because the lyrics are the right balance of 'woe is me' and 'hey, I am here, cope' for Jono, and some of them are pretty dang apt.

(We also decided that the lyrics he's got tattooed onto his hip are "I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does." Because how could they be anything but?)

Apparently my Star Wars pups are going to be the difficult ones today. Goooo figure.

I'm not completely sold on it, it's a little more soft than I'd like for Kanan, but The Lonely Life by City and Colour is kind of a good retrospective for him, with the wandering and ~~lyrics about being blinded~~ ~~lyrics about being on the run~~ finding a reason to stop wandering in the presence of the person he loves. (Lyrics videos are hard to find for this one-- the official one is nigh illegible, being white on pale greyscale cityscapes, and this one is... ugly, but can be read more or less? So it is the winner today.)
