FALL 2019 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Fall 2019 Classes! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you still need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Friday, August 30th. and are considered IG knowledge for your small-talking at the welcome picnic convenience.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MON: Period 1: Atreides: Keeping Your Advantage: Terrain & You

From cityscapes to icebergs, each week we'll visit a different type of terrain, and maybe even learn how to survive it. After all, the simple fact that you are at this school is testimony to the fact that you never know where you may find yourself. Part-environmentalism, part gym-class, and all about learning to think on your feet.

MON: Period 2: Carlysle & Wilson: The Ever Changing Facets of Reality

What better way to learn about the world than through the parts of it mass media think are important enough to award cash prizes for? Every week the students will compete in a different reality show until one ultimate winner is crowned!

Note 1: We've been told we can't actually kick any of you off the island.

Note 2: Any offered cash prize is not real and will not actually provided.

MON: Period 3: Lucifer: Introduction to Law Enforcement

Crime and punishment are a complicated affair, and one can’t always rely on law enforcement officials to deal with them appropriately. In fact, sometimes, an outside perspective is very useful in investigations. In this class, you will be taught the basics of hunting down crime and preserving evidence or to the extent Lucifer grasps them anyway.

TUESDAY

TUE: Period 1: Blackstone: Shop Class

It's shop class! Where we build things! What kind of things? Metal things, wooden things, electric things, all kinds of things! This class will be a good chance to pursue interesting new projects, learn new techniques, become familiar with fascinating equipment, and spend a good hard class period making something useful...or sometimes maybe something just fun.

TUE: Period 2: Pryde-Barton: Computer Science and Repair

This class will focus on computer-related subjects, like programming, hacking, and repair, so just in case you're needed to save the day you have something to work from.

TUE: Period 3: Aphra: Hi-Story

History isn't just written by the victors, it's also filmed, sung, and has cool laser sword fights added by them. The camera is a lying sleemo, kids.

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Skywalker: Ethics

No pressure, but the choices you make affect you for the rest of your life. Using hypothetical and real-life scenarios, Anakin Skywalker will help you Make Better Choices. Sure he will.

WED: Period 2: Crocker: So You Want to be a Pirate

Handy with a sword? Dream of eyepatches and parrots? Have a flexible-to-antagonistic relationship with law and order? Then perhaps you too can become a pirate! Learn the ropes (see what we did there?) on the high seas with hands-on sailing and piracy experience, from a man who's made his living as one for more than a decade! Action! Adventure! Exercise! Funny accents! All that, mateys, and more, all in the safety to Fandom High's own Danger Shop!

THURSDAY

THUR: Period 1: Kennedy: Read the Room: Practical Self-Defense

Situational awareness is a thing. With any luck, you'll never need this class, unless you come from one of the worlds that's Just Like That, but if nothing else, well. Fandom. You'll probably need some of this at least once.

This class isn't going to turn you into a badass martial artist. It's not going to be drills and conditioning and sparring. Well, maybe some sparring. This is about using what's around you to your advantage and getting a little creative when you have to. Because hey. If you're going to have to defend yourself, you might as well do it in style.

THUR: Period 2: Kincaid & Price: Physical Education

Do you have a lot of pent-up energy you want to put to use? Looking to keep in shape? Training to survive that upcoming apocalypse in your world? Physical Education class is here to help!

[OOC: Right, so. Instead of a normal gym class with normal gym equipment, you get... classes based on free Flash games around the internet. Bouncing on gummies in Burrito Bison. Zooming around avoiding the pillars in Flappy Bird. Flinging giant pills in Dr. Mario. Stabbing fruit in Fruit Ninja. This is not at all the PE class that the teachers thought they were getting themselves into but you don't argue with the office moose.]

THUR: Period 3: Cara & Burnsides: Practical Life Skills

It's a big, complicated, dangerous world out there, but never fear, a big, complicated dangerous problem can always be broken down into smaller, easier problems, and we're here to give you the skills to deal with those problems. Usually with punching.

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Diaz: Bad Ass Bitch Survival Guide

Being a bad ass bitch isn't something that can be taught, you've either got it or you don't, but you can still learn to survive like one. Or something. I don't know, just take the class. Or don't. I really don't care. I mean, I literally just copied this description from last year, that's how much I don't care.

FRI: Period 2: Lecter: Cooking Through History

Humans (and likely other species) have been cooking for millennia. Any number of techniques and ingredients have been employed. At Fandom, we are uniquely positioned to make use of them. Join a class to learn some of these methods and foods and make them yourself.

FRI: Period 3: Rogers & Stark: Practical Civics

So it turns out that the I'm Just a Bill guy was hopelessly optimistic when it comes to how government is actually working. Your teachers will show you how it should work, how it actually works, and will let muns scream into the void show students productive ways to become engaged, helpful citizens.

COMMUNITY CENTER CLASS

This class is offered for all characters--townies, teachers, and students--to take. Because it's more casual, it's not essential to sign up for it here to attend, but it's nice to give the players an idea of participation levels.

MON: Octavian: Modern Entertainment

New to Earth? New to this era? Come watch local entertainment and try to figure out what it's all about! Hopefully we'll get a bit more context on what it's like around here, and also meet others who are in the same boat.

NPC Classes

Nerds.

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
