Winter BDE Announcement!
So there's good news and bad news. The good news is that the trainwreck of a shitstorm of a 2019 is over in two days. The bad news is that it has collectively sucked all of our brains so hard that we didn't have any new applications for the Spring 2020 session.
But we can work with that through our BDE! It turns out that we didn't just bring back an amazing collection of gluhwein mugs from our trip to Cologne: we also brought back a stowaway Krampus, the terrifying half-goat, half-demon coin flip of Jolly Ol' Saint Nick. He, if you aren't familiar with the legend, steals bad children (and townies and teachers) and takes them off to his lair to do various and vague nefarious things to them. He has also 'napped all of new students and teachers for the semester, so no one new will actually be showing up for the welcome picnic -- which is how will we kick off our BDE.
The timeline:
--The welcome picnic will continue as scheduled on Saturday, January 4th. We are looking for a few volunteers to be Big Siblings and Teaching Buddies whose siblings/buddies never arrive, as well as people who would like to invent and NPC a few new students/teachers for the event, kind of like you would for a Parents Weekend event (so please check in with people you'd be canon sharing with, however brief). The NPC students and teachers will finish the event, nope out hard from attending FH this semester, and disappear back into the multiverse. We also need a few PC volunteers to be kidnapped from the welcome picnic and join our NPC newbies and their extremely disgruntled bus driver. Krampus might also be spotted around town on that Saturday but would be written off as a new, extremely terrifying looking, teacher.
Fandom herself is doing a Random Event for the day of the welcome picnic, with presents appearing all over the place as a late gift for the new people who weren't there at Christmas. For non-kidnappees, the gifts just contain useful stuff like hair dryers, alarm clocks, bath products, desk lamps, etc, all things that students or teachers might need. For kidnappees that don't get grabbed by Krampus directly, they contain a creepy evil toy that drags them into the gift box, which contains a hellish portal straight to Krampus' sack. We'll contact the kidnappees to find out their preferences on getting 'napped.
--By the next day, people can definitely notice that we got smaller rather than larger following the welcome picnic and volunteers may assemble to try to figure out What's Wrong This Time, Dangit. The kidnappees and the NPCs will also get a chance to chat amongst themselves and try to come up with an escape plan from where Krampus has stuffed them: in the caldera of Ingvar's volcano. (Spoiler alert, their plan won't work.)
--By Monday, January 6th, researchers have found an ancient ritual of peace and hope at Yuletide that miiiight either banish Krampus or convince him the island's inhabitants have the Spirit of Christmas and carry it with them even though it's technically past December 25th. (We'll pick a Very Lucky Researcher to discover what this is.)
--On Tuesday, January 7th, we Attempt the Ritual. And that really ought to work, but not everybody is ever going to be wholehearted about it, and some people aren't Christian and could rightfully be annoyed by the whole Christmas is Not A Secular Holiday To People Of Other Religions Who Get It Shoved In Their Faces thing, and some people are aliens and Don't Get Christmas, and some people are disillusioned because life happens, blahblahblah. So Krampus is kranky and sends out his army of creepy evil toys to destroy us. Because Fandom is super excited to see evil toys again. Freaking 2019.
The good part of the fight: it's super obvious that the toys are coming from Ingvar, so we know where to go to rescue our friends! Plus Ingvar, who is now a toddler and was just trying to Get Into the Spirit of Christmas, Okay, is also annoyed by his new friend being not as nice as he'd thought and will help us (well, "help") with his own army of misfit creepy dolls and stuff. Thanks? Sorta? Ingvar? Together, Ingvar's toys and our fighters will free the NPCs and the kidnapped characters, and be Fully Done With Christmas, Thanks Ever So.
Questions? Comments? Really great ideas for NPCs to get kidnapped? Please sign up by Thursday, January 2nd!

Questions & Comments
Re: Questions & Comments
b) For NPC students can we make up class schedules for them? Obvs not actually sign them up on the OOC sign-up sheet, but ICly do they believe they've got classes? So if I wanted MOMO to be taking Bad Ass Bitch Life Lessons, I could have her have a schedule saying she's got that and a few others?
ALSO: is there a newbie shuttle for NPCs and do the NPCs get roomie assignments? I know they get kidnapped before the roomie thing matters but for the purposes of socialization the day of the picnic...
Re: Questions & Comments
b) You can totally make up their class schedules and we can run the NPCs through a randomizer to give them roomie assignments, but they tend to be paired with other newbies unless a current student is looking for a new roommate. And we're still pondering the newbie shuttle post, but there will definitely be a place for them to chat/wonder wtf with each other on Saturday.

So naturally I'm coping by immediately piling my characters into a BDE signup post.
