SPRING 2020 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2020 Classes! These sign-ups are for all students!

Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by a teacher character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Each student character MUST sign up for at least 2 PC classes. Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you still need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, you need to show up. Class attendance is how we keep track of your character's activity. If you repeatedly fail to at least sign in to your classes, we'll have to contact you about it, and you could be asked to leave the game.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion. They are also hilarious this time around. Bless you, teachers.

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Friday, January 3rd and are considered IG knowledge for your small-talking at the welcome picnic convenience.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MON: Period 1: Pryde-Barton: Criminal Justice

Based on a long-lost syllabus from The Tick's Criminal Justice class text, this class will go over crimefighting, including ethical questions and activities. Ample opportunities for extra credit!

MON: Period 2: Kyōraku: The Art of Pacifism

The path of the pacifist is like the journey of a cherry blossom on a warm spring breeze ♥. In this class, we will explore the Art of Pacifism and the cornucopia of peace, good tidings, and endless blessings that come to those who practice it ♥. Many are the benefits for those who choose to use words instead of swords, charm instead of fists, sake instead of bombs ♥! Learn just how to do so in this useful course, taught by a certified expert ♥! Reap the benefits of the opposition to war as a means of settling disputes or gaining advantage ♥. This will include many alternatives to fighting ♥, ways to promote non-violence ♥, and some of the key teachings of pacifism ♥.

MON: Period 3: Aphra: Creative Thinking

Sometimes you've got to think on your feet, but you're not in the habit, then you might as well just stand in front of the blaster and hope a stormtrooper's behind the trigger. Or you could take my class and start finding creative solutions to deadly* problems!

TUE: Period 1: Rogers & Stark: Teamwork & Leadership Skills

Lone wolf-ing it can only take you so far. Sometimes you need a team. This class will focus on working with a diverse group of people, working with their strengths and weaknesses, and using them to fight for truth, justice, and a decent cup of coffee.

Running laps will not be optional.

TUE: Period 2: Smith: The Multiverse is F'ed, Y'all

The multiverse is pretty f'ed up, y'all. You don't need to be a student at this school long to learn that, but it might take a bit more than that acknowledgement to learn how to just DEAL WITH IT. And I've been dealing with some pretty weird-ass stuff (even weirder than bananas in meatloaf!) since long before even coming to this school. So, take it from me, I can put you through some pretty messed up sims to hopefully make the next time this island throws you through a summer filled with random horrible things every week or turns you into a squirrel or a five year old or sends you chaos-strewing scorpions to your graduation commencement...you'll be better prepared for it, because you can just sit back, shake your head and think to yourself, "Well, at least it's not as bad as what Summer Smith puts us through!"

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Diaz: Bad Ass Bitch Life Lessons

Being a bad ass bitch is all about a certain attitude. A lifestyle. Mindset. Whatever. So this class is going to be all about thinking and acting like a bad ass bitch in a variety of situations. Every week we'll either talk about or execute some tenant of bad ass bitchery so that you, too, can be a better bad ass bitch.

Even though, like I've said, you can't really teach this stuff, you're either a bad ass bitch or you aren't, and a real bad ass bitch isn't going to just listen to what some other people says, no matter how much of a bad ass bitch that other person is. But, hey. I wrote something new this time around for the description, what more do you want?

WED: Period 2: Crocker: Advanced Bird Haberdashery

The world is full of tiny dinosaurs, and those tiny (and not so tiny) dinosaurs need HATS! Do you have what it takes to make those tiny-dinosaur hats? Bird hats come with their own unique challenges. How will it stay on their head in flight? Are they water birds? What does that mean for the dashing plumage on the hat band? Is dashing plumage even appropriate on a creature already covered in feathers? Learn the answers to these questions and more! Note: some classes may be BYOBird.

WED: Period 3: Skywalker: Sex Ed

A species-inclusive sexual education class with an emphasis on hard truths about the many, many STIs that are available for transmission throughout the galaxy.

There will be charts. Horrifying charts.

THURSDAY

THUR: Period 1: Kennedy: Blood Stain Removal (And Other Practical Ways to Keep Your Secret--)

So let's say, hypothetically, you have a night job fighting evil or crime or something in a freelance kind of way. You know the deal. Also hypothetically, let's say maintaining a secret identity is a thing that needs to happen, or nobody is supposed to know your job exists.

This class is going to help you work out your cover stories and teach you a few tricks about how to lead a secret, heroic second life, and do it a little less stressfully.

THUR: Period 2: Price & Kincaid: The Cryptozoologist's Field Guide

Ignoring what some OTHER teachers might have tried to pass along as information about cryptids, this is the class you want to take to learn about ghoulies, ghosties, and long-legged beasties. Or, rather, ghouls, griffins, and bogeymen (ghosts aren't technically classified as cryptids). Real cryptids taught by a real cryptozoologist (and cryptozoologist-in-training.)

THUR: Period 3: Burnsides & Cara: Wisdom is a Dump Stat: Adventuring for Beginners

You! Yes, you. Want to start a life of adventure but not really sure how? With this simple course, taught by real adventurers, you'll learn the dos and do nots of adventuring! So, roll them bones and see what fate has in store for you!

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Amaya: Shop

It's shop class! Where we build things! What kind of things? Metal things, wooden things, electric things, all kinds of things! This class will be a good chance to pursue interesting new projects, learn new techniques, become familiar with fascinating equipment, and spend a good hard class period making something useful...or sometimes maybe something just fun.

Is this the same description used for this class last time? You bet it is! But I am looking to work some new project in with some of the old favorites this year! And, let's be honest, building stuff and creating things with your own two hands never gets old, anyway.

FRI: Period 2: Carlysle & Wilson: Strategies for Maximum Media Absorption (Binge Watching 101)

So, you want to catch up on that hot new Netflix show, or just watch Friends for twelve hours straight. No judgment here. We've all been there. But you can't just sit down and start watching! You have to have a plan. This class will teach you all the best ways to watch TV for hours on end, plus it's a class you get to just watch TV in. Win-win!

FRI: Period 3: Vendaai: How to be Civilized

Who doesn't want to be civilized? This class teaches you the basics of propriety and points out the failures of contemporary Earth manners, and will leave you equipped to socialize without making citizens laugh behind your back.

COMMUNITY CENTER CLASSES

These classes are offered for all characters--townies, teachers, and students--to take. Because it's more casual, it's not essential to sign up for it here to attend, but it's nice to give the players an idea of participation levels.

MONDAY: Argentum: Tactics Pancake!!!

Once upon a time in a kingdom far, far away there was the Great King of Crepelandia! And the Great Queen of Pancakeia! Their heirs were in MAD LOVE and it was a love story of SONG and LEGEND despite the fact that they were FATED to rule different kingdoms! But the Eviiiiiiiiiiiil Lord Flatcake was against their EPIC ROMANCE and using the power of the SPATULA set out to destroy them and their parents' kingdoms!

In the next seventeen weeks, as LOYAL SOLDIERS your goal is to save Crepelandia and Pancakeia from destruction and ruin! Will you find ~love amidst the fires of war~?*

THURSDAY: Pryde-Barton: Bartending!

ver want to make drinks? Learn! Taught by someone who's been serving up drinks way longer than she ever intended, you can learn some skills yourself.

NPC Classes

Nerds.

For those students in need of specific core content courses, NPC classes are handwavy, off-screen classes taken online at the student's own pace, and taught by our brilliant and not at all homicidal Danger Shop computer, HAL 9000. No sign-ups will be necessary, there is no minimum or maximum number of these classes your student can take, and they don't count towards or against the requirements for PC workshops.

We'll collect up your requests for class subjects, respond to anything that seems problematic, combine any duplicates, and make a list that will be posted along with the PC workshop rosters once sign-ups are over. After that, any student may refer to that list when talking about additional classes they're taking!

So, in this thread, please request NPC classes of a normal high school nature that you'd like to be available for your characters to take. (List as many as you'd like in the same comment, but please keep them to classes you actually want, not general suggestions.)
