SUMMER 2020 WORKSHOP SESSION 1 SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your First Session Summer 2020 Workshops! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students, and in a first, some of the workshops are open to EVERYONE (but not all of them, so be sure to read carefully.). YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

3) PC classes are those taught by an actual character, the things you're signing up for here, as opposed to the NPC classes, which are taught by woodchucks discussed in their own thread towards the end of this post.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. (Not you, recent grads.) Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, please, please try to show up. It lets the mods judge if you're still in the game and it makes the work the teachers are putting into coming up with something fun to interact with so worth it.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve.

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Friday, May 8th, 2020, and are IG knowledge at the Welcome Picnic.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. MON: Period 1: Kyōraku: Creative Writing

While the world around us is filled with indescribable, there are many who may make the sometimes vain but dedicated attempt to express such things through the poetry and fiction ♥! In this workshop, students will have the privilege of having an esteemed author lead them through the exciting and adventurous world of writing, in weaving their own beauty through the power of words ♥!

MON: Period 2: Skywalker: Try Not to Die!

Every week, we will explore a different country via cultural experiences and cuisine in way that is not at all like an Amazing Race episode, what are you talking about, but not in a typical tourism way.

Cliff-jumping, driving stick shift, and eating bugs are all definitely included.

MON: Period 3: Aphra: The Great Fandom Scavenger Hunt

Everyone likes a scavenger hunt, right? Puzzles, loot, death defying escapades, what's not to love?

MON: Period 4: Tyler: Time Management

Open to: STUDENTS ONLY

Some might say productivity is important. But to be productive you have to learn how to manage your time, whether it's by looking like you're busy when you're really not, or ditching out on responsibilities entirely to hang out at the beach for a day. This class is gonna ignore the productivity part and only focus on that second part. Movie day, anyone?

TUE: Period 1: Crocker: Ungulate Yoga

Open to: EVERYONE

Do you want to be more active? Want to increase your natural strength and flexibility? Have a hankering to do so while surrounded by nature and hoofed mammals? Ungulate yoga is for you! Join us each week for complex poses, peace of mind, and baby goats! Or sheep! Or hippopotamuses! And don't forget your avocado toast! All ages and skill levels welcome!

TUE: Period 2: Smith: How to Tame a Willful Wife

As one quickly nears the end of their secondary education in high school, one's thoughts may naturally be turning toward something far more important than books and learning, and that would be MARRIAGE. But how can one be certain they are prepared to enter the state of matrimony? How can one be sure they will make a good partner for their future spouse? And what steps can be taken to ensure that one might find themselves a suitable partner, or, if their partner turns out to be a terrible disappointment, what can be done to tame a willful wife and achieve a desired state of matrimonial bliss?

This class will provide excellent examples of what traits a wife should strive to achieve in her marriage, as well as advice for distraught husbands who may find their their wives are not the embodiment of domestication and servitude they may have expected her to be! In the face of an ever-changing landscape that no longer cherishes the time-honored benefit of traditional roles within a marriage, these helpful hints will set any young hopeful husband or wife on the right path to a happy home!

TUE: Period 3: Argentum: Black Magic Cookery!!!!!!!!!!

Like, to be entirely real, the alternate name of this class is Watch Wayne Squint At Me as I teach you all to make cake out of eggs and nothing else and pizza out of a tomato and a shellfish?????????????????

The name is, like, totally the moose's fault as No Black Magic was involved in this and you all cook way weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TUE: Period 4: Jaskier: Storytelling and Song

THU: Period 1: Stark: In Space No One Can Give You Chocolate and Other Problems Solved By Cupcakes

Open to: EVERYONE what monster would deprive others of delicious cupcakes?!

Cupcake appreciation makes a triumphant return to Fandom. There will be eating. There will be baking. There will be decorating. There may be examples of horrible things that should never be done to a poor baked good that never did anyone any harm.

THU: Period 2: Burnsides & Cara: Animal Handling for Fun and Fun

How to boost your animal handling proficiency for when that skill check comes up. And it'll come up. You just gotta make it come up.

THU: Period 3: Blackstone & Diaz: Weapons 101

The world of weaponry is vast and fun and exciting, and, sometimes, it can be a little overwhelming to know just where to begin! But this course is here to help! This very introductory class will spend each week learning about a different type of weapon - what makes them unique, how they came to be, what they can be used for, and how to actually use them - all from the knowledge and perspective of an expert at making them and an expert at using them.

THU: Period 4: Li: The Heroic Journey

Ever wonder why so many stories have a very similar structure? Not just by delineated by genre, but the underlying themes and even some of the same plot points? For generations, storytellers have been using the concept of the monomyth, of the Hero's Journey. Using examples from books and other media, from movies to plays to video games, class will break down the different steps of the hero's journey.

FRI: Period 1: Blackstone & Vendaai: How to Make a Radchaai Entertainment

Action! Adventure! Political intrigue! Unfortunate mushy stuff Epic Romance! Learn all about Radchaai entertainments by making one yourselves, with the help of two people who may not exactly know how to make an entertainment, but they've certainly seen enough of them from various universes to make a decent stab at it. Failure's just another way of learning, anyway, and you won't know unless you try!

FRI: Period 2: Stark & Rogers: Arts & Crafts

It's not really summer if you aren't making things out of popsicle sticks and hot glue, right?

FRI: Period 3: Yennefer of Vengerberg: Magical Theory and Practice

Students will get a sound basis in magical theory as taught by the renowned magical school of Aretuza,and then their instructor will throw out the syllabus and teach them which magic herbs will get them high.
