YES IT IS: YOUR SUMMER BDE!
Hello, Fandom!
It's time for your summer BDE! From August 19th through August 22nd, we are getting invaded by... *drumroll* NIGHT MARES.
... or, well, a radical offshoot of those Night Mares. They will sneak into Fandom early in the morning of Wednesday August 19th, taking up residence in the dark shadows of every home. They're here to feed on your deepest, darkest memories. They'll be weak, at first, coaxing nightmares from the denizens of Fandom in order to suck up that lovely terrible energy.
With time, they'll get stronger, drawing up bad memories even in the daytime hours - provided they can stay in the shadows, as they are allergic to light. And then come the weekend, the rain clouds come in...
Our Night Mares are parasocial demons. The power of the energy they feed on is amplified if it runs through more than one person at a time. People who are asleep in the same room together will share nightmares. People who have deep bonds with each other will live through or at least feel the terrible memories in a waking person if they're close enough. Strangers? Well, that's a small mercy: you can only share a bad memory with a stranger through touch.
Wait, so if I touch someone, they get my bad memory too?
Yep. As long as you're in a space where a night mare can actively draw one of your bad memories to the surface, touching anyone will confer that memory on them for however long the memory lasts. As stated above, if you're around someone you already know and care about, chances are the memory can hop over without even a touch. Once the memory is over, you'll feel physically drained, as well as whatever else might bring it out in you.
So how do we fight it?
The crudest method is light. They're wary of it. Touching it can leave a slight burn on a Night Mare, make them vulnerable to solid attacks, and send them running. But they always come back.
So how do we defeat them? I'm glad you asked! Good memories are potent, beautiful ones moreso. And if you share them with another at the same time - through the same mechanic as stated above - well, you could drive off several Night Mares permanently at once. So that's nice.
So I'm a telepath/otherwise psychically gifted person, how does this affect me?
The Night Mares will generally go for whatever memory they think will incapacitate the victim. They're very intense. However, a disciplined telepath might be able to break out of it eventually - or affect others going through it. But that's a temporary fix that only snaps someone out of the specific memory they're in.
Okay. So I guess there are going to be teams...
Nope, not this time. We're ceding the stage to you guys again. Starting Thursday, August 20th, there will be daily town hall posts for people to come and confer about their experiences. Hit a Night Mare with light, or accidentally flashed back to eating a piece of your favorite cake for the first time and sent one boiling away in a puff of smoke? Come tell the class. We want to come to our finale organically without much organisational interference - though it's there if it turns out to be necessary.
But there WILL be a finale!
Yep! In the afternoon of Saturday, August 22nd, as many people as possible will gather somewhere on the island to share good memories and send the Night Mares packing. Kind of like a collective Care Bear Stare, except everyone's invited. Fun, right?
And that's really all there is to it. Questions? Comments? Leave them under this post.

Questions!

Re: Questions!
Would it be reasonable for me, I mean their player, to interpret that as just a really potent sense of trauma without the details?

Re: Questions!
This one. Right here. Canonically has meaningful dreams. Especially featuring local ghosts she shouldn't know about and strange foreboding animals.
Would it be cool to have her have a bunch of seemingly nonsense dreams about giant fuck-off horses with glowing eyes and/or I don't know, something spooky/eldritch from Fandom's history? COULD SHE POTENTIALLY DREAM ABOUT RUNNING AROUND A SPOOKY DREAM-SCAPE OF THE TUNNELS UNDER THE TOWN?

Grayskullmy approved BDE proposal, I say yes!Comments!
Re: Comments!
Or, you know, it's coincidental. BUT STILL. TRAUMATIC BDE FOR MY BIRTHDAYYYYYY!

:D :D :D
(Also, just saying, this girl can cast the Light cantrip, so if having someone come along and make an object in your possession glow for an hour would be useful for anyone's purposes, just let me know.)
