Meme: Canon Displacement

This is one that hasn't been posted since the last time I posted it May 2021.

Start a thread with the name of your character.

Under that, others can ping in with the name of one of their own characters, and it's then the thread-starter's job to describe where that second character would fit into their own character's canon. So if I were to ping in with Eddie Munson, and Elaine gave me Eddie Diaz (I like to make this confusing to see who is reading), it would be my job to come up with how Eddie might fit in if he were a character in Eddie's canon. For example, I might say he's fills the role of Lucas Sinclair because he's the only sane man of this group of weirdos.

Excuse me for a moment while I enjoy the idea of them being played by Matt Mercer.

Anyway, I can picture Marc being the one they meet first, because the Nein are very good at butting heads with people right off the bat and then somehow befriending them anyway. He's a freelance adventurer, of course, and I'm amused by the idea of them crossing paths with him several times like they do with the syphilis bandits.

Steven's a historian studying the Age of Arcanum, based out of Zadash, and Beau absolutely is a dick to him whenever she and Caleb make a library trip to the Cobalt Soul, but once they realize his relationship to Marc, they are absolutely ride or die for both of them because that's how they roll.

Neither of them is a wizard though, so you know, despite Steven being likely to be an expert on the subject they aren't asked to tag along to Aeor. They do get spammed with so many Sendings from Jester, though. So many.

Pardon me as I'm now amused on a meta level at the idea that the cast and even some of the fandom assume Matt screwed up and forget that he already described somebody who looks like Marc when they meet Steven. Like they're wondering if this is an early version of the gag in the cartoon where the NPCs voiced by Matt all look like him. And then they realize nope, he meant it mwahahahahaha.

Hmm. Marc? Fighter. Steven? Bookish wizard actually makes sense though. Though I suppose you could also argue for some form of sorcerer if you go with the comics that suggest Konshu was influencing them from the start, and so Steven's got naturally occurring shadow or lunar magic where he's no idea where it came from. And then of course once they strike a deal with Konshu that's an automatic multiclass into warlock.

...damn it now I want to play this.

No, you're right, magic-user makes sense for him! I did consider that though I was leaning more toward sorcerer than wizard, but yeah, Konshu would totally be their warlock patron.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'M NOT SORRY.

Yeah, thinking about it Steven would work as being similar to Imogen, where he's got these powers and a lot of questions about himself so he sets up somewhere to study and try to get the answers. Personality-wise he doesn't come out of the gate as a hero, he's just a nice person who wishes things didn't keep going wrong. So having magic he doesn't understand instead of magic he actively tries to acquire makes more sense.

And like can you imagine the beauty in leveling them up and each time they pick warlock it represents how much they've had to give or buy in to Konshu's deal? Like Marc's just mindlessly doing it because he thinks he doesn't have a choice, Steven's saying fuck off he's only doing the one level...

(Jake, of course, would be barbarian since he's the one with the rage.)
