FALL 2023 CLASS SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Fall 2023 Classes! These sign-ups are for EVERYONE: students, teachers, and townies. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. (Not you, recent grads.) Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, please, please try to show up. It lets the mods judge if you're still in the game and it makes the work the teachers are putting into coming up with something fun to interact with so worth it.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve.

And now we get to what you really want to see: Fall Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Saturday, August 26th, 2023, and are IG knowledge.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Yes, before becoming an envoy to a new culture, there is a certain amount of training--and I will give it to you--but most of it is having correct instincts when a situation goes sidewise. That can only be taught through experience. This class will give you that experience before the real world starts shooting lasers and noxious poison at you.

TUES: Period 1: Aphra & Isabela: Archaeology for Fun and Profit!

What's the difference between archaeology and graverobbing? Paperwork! No, seriously. A class exploring the grey areas between archaeological best practice, swashbuckling treasure hunting, and stealing dead people's stuff because they're not using it any more.

TUES: Period 2: Beniko & Rand: Philosophies of Good and Evil

You know how the story usually goes: one side is the 'good' side, the other is the 'bad' side. Jedi and Sith, in the language of your teachers. But are 'doing good' and 'doing evil' really such simple philosophies? In this class we'll explore a myriad of moral questions from the perspective of one Jedi who's seen it all and one Sith who believes in a practical outlook.

TUES: Period 3: Argentum: Photography 101

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but there's a lot more to a good picture than just point and snap! This course will take a look at various different aspects of photography, photographic equipment, and explore the art, history, and possible career options that go into photography. Just say 'Wookiee!' and get ready to take some amazing shots!

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Atreides: The History of Assassination

There are many ways for a human to die, but one of the most interesting is to die by the will of another. Assassination is one of the oldest political tools on this planet, and many others.

Learn about the different methods of assassination, the motivations, some of the most notable assassinations in history, and what makes it different from plain, simple (uninteresting) murder.

WED: Period 2: Smith: The Multiverse is F'd, Y'all

If there's one thing you pick up on pretty quickly once you start delving into the wide wonderful world of multidimensional travel, it's that the multiverse? Is kind of f*cked, y'all. It can take some getting used to. But fear not, because this course is all about exposing you to some of the weirdest and weirdly specific things that one might stumble upon as they begin dimension-trotting and universe-hopping. Granted, there are infinite universes out there, so this class will only be able to cover the most miniscule iota of a fraction of potential experiences, but, hey, better that than nothing, right?

WED: Period 3: Beaker: Rube Goldberg and You!

Science is amazing! Science using Many, Many Superfluous Bits is just better science. Everyone knows this. Come and solve problems (while creating new ones!) with Beaker, who will probably not explode.*

*The School Board would like you to know that they cannot guarantee an explosion-free course.

THUR: Period 1: Amicitia: Physical Education

A healthy body is just as important as a healthy mind, and so that's where your good old fashioned Phys Ed classes come in! Keep in shape with a class designed to teach you about all your physical needs from head to toe, learn about the benefits of sports and teamwork, and how to improve yourself to be ready to be happy and healthy and maybe even better handle all those weird Fandom invasions that keep on happening around here, too.

THUR: Period 2: Eagle: Sam Eagle Presents: The Weird States of America

Sam Eagle Presents another class on weirdness. This time explaining why every individual state is weird and also why DC is weird (taxation without representation? The horror!).

THUR: Period 3: Foster & Cara: Ass-Kicking 101

Learn the basics of ass-kicking from the two best on the island. Yes, that is us, we will not be taking suggestions.

FRI: Period 2: Rogers & Stark: The Renaissance: Art & Science

A rediscovery of the humanist, political, philosophical and artistic ideals, breaking free from Medieval thought and subjection to God, the Renaissance was the basis for numerous foundations of modern thought and art history. Tony will handle the modern thought, Steve will cover the art history. (There will be at least one trip to Italy if that tips your interest in any direction...)

FRI: Period 3: Blackstone & Diaz: Basic Weaponry

Look! Shiny weapons!

If that got your attention, then, boy, is this class for you, because weapons? We've got 'em! All sorts of weapons, both pointy and blunt, and all of them shiny, and we're ready to teach you all about them! Learn all about weapons in this class taught by an expert at making them and an expert at using them, both of who have been teaching this class pretty much since the beginning of time, so you know we're both really good at it and really enjoy it. So come learn about weapons today! You won't regret it.
