SPRING 2024 CLASS SIGN UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Spring 2024 Classes! These sign-ups are for EVERYONE: students, teachers, and townies. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, please, please try to show up. It lets the mods judge if you're still in the game and it makes the work the teachers are putting into coming up with something fun to interact with so worth it.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve.

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Saturday, January 6th, and are IG knowledge.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Learn about the earth and life sciences as we take a look at biological field research and answer questions about molecular evolution and the evolutionary history of life.

MON: Period 2: Aphra & Isabela: Let's Plan a Heist!

Crime is bad. But crime is also interesting! Especially heists! Where you have to make plans and improvise on the fly. So what better way to work on your problem solving skills than planning a heist. A fake one. Yes.

MON: Period 3: Sims: Learn to Have Fun!

Fun comes naturally to some people. Others have to learn it. In this class, we will explore fun activities with an eye to learning how to enjoy them.

MON: Period 4: Navaan: Creative Writing--So Simple Even You Can Do It! (Probably)

Writing is super easy. Ask anyone who's ever wanted to be a writer. You just put words down on paper, maybe a dirty illustration or two next to the good bits and BOOM! Writer. Just send that off to a publisher and soon you'll be rolling around in those fat stacks of cash they send you for writing so good. It won't even mess with your other jobs, like being a doctor or an adventurer, which are really the same thing! But anyway, if you haven't figured out how to be an awesome writer yet, you should sign up for this class, because then you'll learn to be a good one. Unless you don't, which is on you for being a talentless hack.

TUESDAY

TUES: Period 1: Atreides: Diplomacy, Relationships & Tactics: the Art of War

Using the classic text "The Art of War", Lady Ghanima will once again focus on the different P'ien, and examine how they can relate to personal, professional, and tactical situations. No matter if the enemy is a business rival, a romantic conquest, or an invading army, the principles behind the analytical thinking of Sun Tsu remain the same, and can be applied to almost any situation.

TUES: Period 2: Smith & Stark: In the Cupcake of Good and Evil

Everybody loves a cupcake. Anyone claiming to not love cupcakes is either a liar or someone you're better off not associating with. But, with cupcakes, as with most things, there also lurks a dark side.

In this class, we will explore the nature of baking those delicious little hand-sized treats through various techniques....some traditional, some not so much....and you have the power in your KitchenAid to decide whether you plan to use this knowledge for GOOD.....or for EVIL.

Wondering how one can apply a moral judgement on baked goods? Only one way to find out....if you think you can handle it. Mwa ha ha ha ha.

TUES: Period 3: Rogers & Stark: Art in STEM

A practical lesson in why art is an important element of life, but more importantly, of the traditional STEM studies. Because engineers can't make an aesthetic no matter how hard they try.

TUES: Blackstone: Shop Class

It's Shop Class! Come learn how to build things, put things together, and take them apart! We'll cover neat mechanical facts and fun experiments, perfect for anyone who likes to learn by doing and isn't afraid to get their hands a little dirty! Hopefully with minimal explosions...unless that's exactly what we're going for that day.

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Skywalker & Tano: Trust in Teamwork

The most important part of teamwork is trust. Without being able to trust your teammates, how can you hope to actually accomplish your goals? So let an unbeatable team take you through the process of building that all important trust!

*Both members of said team may not be aware they are teaching this class.

WED: Period 2: Amicita: Wildnerness Survival

Come on out to explore and experience the great outdoors in the way it was intended: rough and tumble and full of adventure! In this class, you'll get plenty of hands-on experience with what to do when you're out in the great wide wilderness, everything from setting up a solid campsite to foraging for food and water, great outdoor activities and how to work in different terrains. So grab your hiking boots and let's hit the trails and learn how to survive whatever the wilderness might throw at you.

WED: Period 3: Beniko & Rand: Music: Everything You Could Possibly Be Able To Learn About It

...In a Single Semester

Most people enjoy music, unless you're some kind of grumpy curmudgeon who works too much. And even if you are a grumpy curmudgeon who works too much, you should probably learn to appreciate it. Over the next 17 weeks, a Sith who likes music in passing and a Jedi who enjoys singing in a rock band will introduce you to various genres of music, teach you how to listen to it, and maybe just a little bit of how to make it.

WED: Period 4: Tanizaki: Conversational Japanese

Hey, all you English speakers! Want to learn a new language? Brush up on your current skills? Or just learn how to use enough Japanese to get by in a conversational capacity? Then do we have the course for you! I've spent a lot of my teaching career teaching high schoolers how to hold conversations in English, and now we're going with the reverse, and for college students! Learn helpful words and phrases and contexts to put to practical use on an every day basis! Assuming you're speaking Japanese on an every day basis, which you would be, if you were in Japan! You should take it! I hear the teacher's really cute!

THURSDAY

THU: Period 1: Vess: Necromancer's Guide to the Undead

There are more types of undead than the kind you see on Halloween and horror movies, each with their own characteristics and subtleties. From ghosts to geists, Alara's aether-liches to Zendikar's zombies, this class will explore the subtleties and intricacies amongst the undead of the Multiverse as only a necromancer can.

THU: Period 2: Foster & Cara: Dice & Danger

Danger can strike at any point, so why not learn how best to address it in a safe, controlled environment. With dice. Why dice? Because sometimes things are merely up to chance, of course!

THU: Period 3: Argentum: Photography through the Years

Though some may make it look pretty easy, the art of Photography has always been about more than just being able to push a button! This class will explore various different aspects of photography, from a historical, cultural, artistic, even technological standpoint! They say a picture's worth a thousand words, right? Well, just imagine what else there is beyond that picture, too, in this class that's All Things Photography.

THU: Period 4: Scientia: Battle Tactics & Strategy

Being well prepared is one of the surest paths to victory, in all things, but this is particularly true in battle and in war. This course will examine many aspects of tactics and strategy to help expand one's perspective, allow them to view situations and solutions from creative and thoughtful new angles, and better heighten one's understanding of gaining an advantage over one's adversaries. One does not even necessarily need to find themselves embroiled in the hardships of war to find them useful, either, as these are skills and tools that can be employed in many aspects of regular life as well, if you only know how.

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Diaz: So You Want to Be a Detective

Whether it's because of watching too much true crime, reading too much urban fantasy, being really into puzzles, or actually genuinely having an interest in solving mysteries, everyone seems to want to be a detective these days. Just look at how many of us are even on this dumb island with virtually no criminal activity except maybe way too many people who are into breaking and entering. You know who I'm talking about.

Anyway, this is a class where you can learn to do detective stuff and find out you're actually bad at it before you actually try and do something with it and embarrass yourself out there in the real world. Or I don't know, maybe you're good at it, in which case I'd recommend going pretty much anywhere that isn't here, honestly.

FRI: Period 2: Raiden: Feeding Yourself 101

You've got to eat. Or...we assume you do. And you can't eat takeout every day. Actually, you can, but it's probably a bad idea for multiple reasons, and if you're not from around here you might not even know how to order it! So in this class we'll cover how to order takeout so you don't starve, and then learn some basic cooking skills so you don't go broke on Doordash.
