SUMMER 2024 (SESSION 1) WORKSHOP SIGN-UPS

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your First Session Summer 2024 Workshops! These sign-ups are for both NEW and RETURNING students, and in the workshops are open to EVERYONE: students, teachers, and townies. Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. (Not you, recent grads.) Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap.

4) If you sign up, please, please try to show up. It lets the mods judge if you're still in the game and it makes the work the teachers are putting into coming up with something fun to interact with so worth it.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve.

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Friday, May 10, 2024, and are IG knowledge for the Welcome Picnic.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Pit your skill against your classmates in a battle royale style fight.

MON: Period 2: Argentum: Photography Basics: Color

There's a lot to be said about the classic feel of a black-and-white photograph, but it when color enters the conversation that pictures can really pop! This workshop will focus on the ways to use color in photographs in a dynamic way, with a weekly challenge that focuses on a color each week, to give you the opportunity to really show your colorful self in your snapshots! Photographers of all experience levels welcome!

MON: Period 3: Video Games are Great!

Video Games are Great! They help you forget all about the real world! So this class is going to dive deep into some of the best video games there are to show you how valuable experiencing video games can really be!

MON: Period 4: Sims: Cats!

I've given up on pretending to teach anything useful and will instead be indulging in a class all about cats. We'll learn their history, stories and folklore about them, and maybe how to keep one (or more) as a pet.

MON: Period 5: Blake: First Aid

Students will learn to treat common injuries and medical conditions that might arise in, um...okay, wow, after further review we might need to cover some more unusual stuff than I thought.

TUESDAY

TUE: Period 1: Anakin Skywalker & Tano: Self Defense for Shinies

Learning to defend yourself is a vital life skill, especially in a place like this. Your experienced teachers will help you enter the exciting world of self-defence, with a special focus on easing in beginners.

TUE: Period 2: Raiden: Make Your Own Pizza!

You know what's great? Pizza. You know what's even greater? Knowing how to make it. We'll cover all the steps for making your own pizza from scratch, from start to finish. We'll even make cheese! (It's less difficult than you're probably thinking.)

TUES: Period 3: Smith: This Sh*t is Bananas, Part Deux: Even More Banana-Related Food Crimes

Many years ago, I discovered an absolute treasure trove of horrible 20th century recipes that did terrible things to bananas, some of which I almost dare not speak of again today. But that, my friends, was only the tip of the iceberg, and I am back again to bring you even more banana-filled culinary nightmares to really make you wonder what this simple fruit has done to deserve such cruelty. We will recreate these banana crimes in class and discuss some of what may have made them come to be and what we can do to prevent (or encourage!) such crimes in the future!

TUE: Period 4: Andrew Skywalker: Practical Philosophy

At its heart, philosophy isn't about Plato, Nietzsche, or Hegel. It's about thinking about the greater frameworks of our worlds and our lives. Practical Philosophy strives to unite personal experiences with greater thought. Class participation not optional: discussion, challenge and argument are what make us think. And thinking's what we're about.

TUES: Period 5: Beniko: Earth Tourism

Some of us aren't from Earth; others may be from other times, or have had limited opportunities for exploration. This class will go to different cities and places on Earth each week, to learn more about it.

TUE: Period 6: Senshi: Delicious in Dungeon

Too many adventurers head down into dungeons with cheese, bread, meat, and wine as their only food supplies. That's not a diet that can support a lifestyle, especially one that's as active as an exploring adventurer's! Delve into a dungeon to learn how it works as a thriving ecosystem and how adventurers can maintain a healthy and delicious diet by preparing and eating the monsters that live there! Special consideration given to sustainability, preparation, and nutrition, as well as lectures about the habits of the monsters in question.

WEDNESDAY

Anakin Skywalker's Shenanigans will continue this summer! No need to sign up here, there will be a weekly sign-up in the OOC comm for everyone's RL considerations.

I will, however, gleefully take suggestions for team-building activities!

THURSDAY

THU: Period 1: Winchester: Booze Tasting and Drinking Games

Come to class, play a game designed to get you drunk and get trashed. On a Thursday morning!

(This class is for characters over the legal drinking age in their dimensions only.)

THU: Period 2: Vess: Philosophies of Mana

Black, Blue, Green, Red, White. These are the five colors of mana. Each color of mana comes from a different type of land and each color of mana represents a set of beliefs and principles that make up its underlying philosophy. This philosophy explains how it sees the world, what objectives it hopes to realize, and what resources and tactics a color has at its disposal. Mastery of magic cannot come without first understanding your chosen color's ideology, how it interacts with the other four colors, and how your own beliefs align within this system.

THU: Period 3: Cara & Foster: Arts & Crafts for Beginners

Come learn the basics of arts and crafts! Where you can make the most simple of materials into something beautiful. Or at least glittery. Which is basically the same thing.

THU: Period 4: Scientia: A Shot in the Dark: A Comprehensive Guide to Coffee

New to brew? Or are you already a coffee connoisseur? Either way, there's a latte to learn in this close examination of all things java. From different brewing methods, places of origin, and cultural significance, let's grab a cup and expand our knowledge of our daily caffeine kick.

THU: Period 5: Blackstone: Arts & Metal Crafts

It's like regular arts and crafts, but with metal things, so it's cooler! Work in some welding, some forging, a few basic blacksmith techniques, and you're really ready to make some pretty neat things....if you've got the metal, anyway! (Get it??)

THU: Period 6: Beaker & Eagle: Cultural Appreciation

Art! Music! Dance! Yogurt! Cultured things that make us cilivized and not weirdos! Come learn from Beaker and Sam about exotic far-off lands: Japan! Kenya! Cleveland! In this class, you are much less likely to leave covered in fire retardant foam, but let's be honest, it's a course done by Beaker so those odds are never zero.

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Navaan: Doctoring 101

This isn't First Aid or any dumb class like that. This is Doctoring 101, where you will learn the secrets to becoming a real doctor. Not all the secrets, duh. It takes hard work to become a doctor and you certainly won't be one after just this class. You'd need to take, like, another two classes to be a real doctor and then we'd probably become rivals and go after one another's patients, and maybe I'd have to burn out whatever hospital you joined and it would just get ugly. Nothing worse than an infestation of doctors you know. It gets dangerous.

But if you want to learn a few of the secrets to becoming a doctor and living a life of glory and doing doctor stuff like having adventures, solving mysteries, and getting laid, this is the class for you!
