Fall 2024 Class Sign-Ups!

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone! It's time to sign up for your Fall 2024 Classes! These sign-ups are for EVERYONE: students, teachers, and townies. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. Please read the following before you start signing up:

1) Teacher and Student Class Expectations! The all important guideline for what is expected of the players in Fandom High. Please give it a once-over even if you've seen it in some form or other before - consider it a good thing to click and read while I put up the OCD!

2) Japanese characters, please sign up in the Western style - given name, then family name - to make our alphabetical OCDing easier.

The Important Stuff About Signing Up For Classes

1) Since we've removed the cap on characters, we have also removed the cap on the number of classes your characters can sign up for, but please consider your RL ability to keep up before chucking a character at every class we're offering.

2) If you're a TA for a class, you need to sign up for that class. It will count towards your minimum 2. Please note TA-ship in the sign-up for easy of making the class lists accurate. Teachers: please refrain from having your own character act as the TA as it defeats the purpose of having a back-up player to post for you!

3) If it's OOC for your character to take a class but you really want to take it anyway, just sign them up and we'll pretend it was an IG paperwork mishap. "Blame the moose" has been working for years!

4) If you sign up, please, please try to show up. It lets the mods judge if you're still in the game and it makes the work the teachers are putting into coming up with something fun to interact with so worth it.

5) Class descriptions are subject to change at the teacher's discretion.

6) To be fair to people in all time-zones, sign-ups are not first-come, first-serve.

And now we get to what you really want to see: Fall Classes!!!!

FH class sign-ups will close at 11:59pm Eastern on Saturday, August 31st, and are IG knowledge at the Welcome Picnic.

General FYI: Feel free to make changes to your class choices as long as you do it before the deadline. We use the final pings in each thread to make the class lists, not the email notifs. Thor's module on which gods are "punk ass little bitches" will probably not be included.

The galaxy is high on liars and low on teaching critical thinking skills. So what better way to learn how to avoid being taken for a ride than to learn to recognise lying liars and the lies they tell.

MON: Period 3: Sims & Lecter: Sex & Sexuality

Sex is an activity that can be highly enjoyable if handled correctly. Sexuality is how an individual approaches that in their life. This class will cover approaching sex to make it as enjoyable and safe as possible, and some of the varied sexualities that exist and how they present.

TUESDAY

TUES: Period 1: Skywalker & Tano: Ethics

Ethics! They're important. It's better to think through the big choices in a same environment rather than out in the galaxy where one wrong move gets your hand sliced off! Theoretically! Do what Master Skywalker says rather than what he does!

TUES: Period 2: Atreides: World Mythology

A whirlwind tour of stories from around the globe, World Mythology is intended to give students a gentle introduction to various pantheons and mythologies around this planet/dimension. No culture or country will examined in-depth, instead, the class will focus on a broad collection of myths and legends.

TUES: Period 3: Raiden: Food & Cultural Appreciation

There's a whole wide world of food out there, and we're gonna explore it together. Sure, you've probably had Chinese, but what about Cambodian? Or Peruvian! So many great options... In this class, we'll visit (Earth-based, human) cultures through Portalocity and eat their food, and learn a bit about how the local culture and history influences what people eat.

But mostly we'll eat food.

WEDNESDAY

WED: Period 1: Cutter & Temple: Introduction to Fossils

An introduction to fossils and how they are studied. Learn about how fossils are formed and the different types of fossils and how to identify them, class will also include practical elements such as fossil hunting and visiting a museum.

WED: Period 2: Stark & Rogers: Exploring American History

Using visits to National parks and monuments around the United States, your instructors will teach you about important moments in US history. (You know you want to charge up Little Round Top.)

WED: Period 3: Kreia: Morality of Action: Unpacking the Dualities of Power

To many, good and evil seem like simple concepts. Perhaps in some sense, they even are. But receiving power from the galaxy upends these dynamics, for to express power for whatever purpose is to impose your will on those less powerful than you. This class will dive into the question of whether it is possible to exercise your own power responsibly, and what it means to have power at all.

(Sometimes through class discussion. Oftentimes through having metaphorical or actual dodgeballs thrown at your head. Kreia believes in hands-on learning.)

THURSDAY

THUR: Period 1: Cara & Foster: Fun Animal Facts

The world is full of animals, and fun animal facts, and not just related to how tasty they are. So come and learn strange and unusual facts about our animal friends! Not for eating.

THUR: Period 2: Amicitia, Argentum & Scientia: Teamwork Training & Combat Skills

Fighting's always easier when you're part of a team, and this class is going to take crucial skills in combat and strategy and combine them with important teambuilding exercises to make you a better part of a whole when it comes to giving it your all on the battlefield....AND in life! We'll learn weapons, we'll learn skills, we'll learn about working together and that sometimes, the real lessons were the friends we've made along the way!*

*The instructors of this course will award you absolutely no bonus points if you can guess who they let write the class description this time around.

THUR: Period 3: Beniko: Continued Earth Tourism

Earth has a ridiculous number of climates and cultures; we will visit a different one each week and try to learn more about this planet.

FRIDAY

FRI: Period 1: Smith: The Weird, Wonderful & WTF World

Anyone who knows me will know that I've been to some pretty messed up places; I've even taken classes with me to some of those places! But did you know that sometimes you don't even have to leave Earth to find some pretty weird, wonderful, and WTF things? Let me show you with this class that looks at some really messed up stuff right outside in our own galactic backyard. Present day, historical, field trips to weird places. We've got a lot of ground to cover, so let's go experience some wild stuff...and maybe learn some things or something because this IS a class or whatever.

FRI: Period 2: Stark: Food Field Trips

Let's take some field trips to some food related sites! Each week the class will travel somewhere (The Jello Museum! Hershey Park! The Coca-Cola factory!) to learn about some food or beverage.
