Administrative Announcement - Rules Listing

Fandom High Rules, Procedures, Etiquette Tips, Guidelines….

We’re working on an organized FAQ, RP Etiquette Guide and Complete Rules and Information section for the webpage, so this document contains a little of everything. These are the current rules and player guidelines for [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. If you can’t find an answer or clarification here, feel free to ask.

This list has been carefully put together through review of players and procedures from this and other games. We have discussed and considered every addition, clarification and modification carefully. This is a living document and subject to change. As such, each time it is changed you will be notified.

It is expected that you will add this to your favorites or your memories. These are all things which you, the player, are expected to be familiar with.

These are not new rules – merely the collation of the existing rules and administration posts into a single document for easier reference. We have been very lenient on some of these points, but some general abuses have forced us to take a stand.

Rules and Regulations of Fandom High

Communities and How to Use Them

These are the officially recognized communities of the Fandom High Role-Playing Game. The things which happen in these communities are to be recognized as game canon. In order for any event to be considered game canon, there must be an actual log posted either in your own journal or in one of the communities. You cannot refer to something which you did ‘last night’ or ‘last week’ if there is not an accompanying log or mention of it already in place.

The following posts go in the following places:

[livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh - Classes, Syllabuses, Teacher Notifications, Homework Assignments, Exams, Detention, School Club Meetings, etc.

DO NOT POST HERE if you are not a teacher, teaching assistant or club head. We will summarily delete posts that are not directly class/grade/syllabus/meeting/etc related.

You can reach your admins at ([livejournal.com profile] dean_bristow or [livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s or [livejournal.com profile] t_servo at administration@fandomhigh.com)
Dean Bristow’s voicemail and Professor Jerusalem’s voicemail in game.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomhighdorms - On-campus business/life that is not classes. Shenanigans, explosions, riots, protests, magical escapades, school club correspondence/plotting, parties… all those things go here. This community is moderated by [livejournal.com profile] fh_resaffairs.

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_lounge - This is for teacher socialization, discussion, watching the cricket match and the heavy drinking you students drive us to. No students allowed. This community is administered by [livejournal.com profile] dean_bristow and [livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s.

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_clinic - This is the purview of House, Wilson and their assistants. If you are a student or faculty member of [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh, grievously wounded and in need of aid, this is the place for you.

You can contact the moderators/maintainers of this community ([livejournal.com profile] gotcanewillpoke - gotcanewillpoke @ gmail.com and [livejournal.com profile] tooniceuglyties - tooniceuglyties @ livejournal.com) through Dr. House’s Voicemail, Dr. Wilson’s Voicemail, Clinic Voicemail or Dr. Wilson’s Emergency Pager

[livejournal.com profile] fhclinic_charts - This community is affiliated with [livejournal.com profile] fandom_clinic and contains information on patients seen. It is moderated by [livejournal.com profile] gotcanewillpoke and [livejournal.com profile] tooniceuglyties as noted above. Posting only by the doctors or their duly appointed assistants.

[livejournal.com profile] fhightimes is the community for the Fandom High student newspaper which is currently run by [livejournal.com profile] chloe_sullivan and [livejournal.com profile] courier_gavin. All information here is regarded as in-character and posting is limited to the Fandom High Times staff. You can contact the staff at their voicemail or mailbox.

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio is run by a real pirate, naturally. Barbossa goes by [livejournal.com profile] likeguidelines and [livejournal.com profile] fandom_radio is a wonderful, funny place to get caught up on what’s going on. The rumors reported are to be regarded as in character. Any links you follow are to be considered as out-of-character knowledge. Use your common sense, please. Posting is limited to [livejournal.com profile] likeguidelines and his duly appointed assistants.

[livejournal.com profile] likeguidelines can be reached at barbossa @ fandomhigh.com or at his voicemail.
[livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies - This community is strictly for what goes on down in the town. For a complete listing of people, places and shops, try the [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies
Directory. This is no longer an open enrollment community. When enrollment is open, you need to go here before you create any character to be certain that a version does not already exist at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. Duplicate characters are not allowed.

To request being added to the community when enrollment is open, theApplication and complete instructions can be found here.

Students and faculty from [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh are allowed and encouraged to play in Fandom Town, but please be familiar with the regulations before venturing there.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies has its own administrator and you can reach him through his e-mail([livejournal.com profile] _red_xiii_ at administration@fandomhigh.com)
e-mail and voicemail in game.
The Fandom Town Chamber of Commerce can be reached at their own, separate, voicemail.

Do not, repeat, do not treat Fandom Town as if it has no rules or administration. They have a Mayor, they have a police department, they have an NPC fire department. Please talk to Red before planning anything major involving the Town or any changes to the public areas.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc - General questions, comments on events that will affect the game as a whole, helpful hints and listings, administrative notices, sign-up sheets… all of these things go here.

This is not the place for your personal availability. Please put notifications of availability and access in your personal lj. If people want to know where you are, they know where to look. This is also not the place to ask for access or player apps.

If you want/need access to a community, leave a message here to request membership.

If you want/need to ask about applying for a teaching position, discuss game policy or something equally important, if you have a suggestion, comment or feedback, please contact [livejournal.com profile] dean_bristow at jack.bristow @ fandomhigh.com or [livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s at journalismprof @ gmail.com

You can reach your admins ([livejournal.com profile] dean_bristow at jack.bristow @ fandomhigh.com or [livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s at journalismprof @ gmail.com )
here and here in game.

All of these are set up for a reason. None of these things belong on [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc.

[livejournal.com profile] fh_adoptions is the community set up so that if you need to leave the game or if you are playing multiple characters and find yourself overwhelmed, you can place your character up for adoption to someone else who would like to play.

The adopting player must fill out an application for approval before taking over the character and beginning play. There will be a link on the information page with the various applications for Student, Faculty or Townie. Questions and/or comments can be referred to [livejournal.com profile] fh_resaffairs at her voicemail.

Offers to bear someone’s children, your basic availability, random angst/glee go in your own, personal journal labeled ‘OOC’. Full stop. If you haven't friended everyone's personal journals, you are probably going to miss stuff. The management takes no responsibility.

Friend the other player journals.

There have been several helpful posts on how to do so. Take advantage of them.

Voice-mail and e-mail entries to allow other characters to contact yours should also go in your personal journal, but when posting it for the first time please remember to backdate so that it does not clutter friends lists and also remember to link it to your info page. It does little good otherwise.

Rules for Posting

When posting to any community or to a character journal, please be aware of/sensitive to the following:

1. Do not post multiple threads concerning the same plot unless absolutely necessary. Please. Our traffic is very heavy and we’d like to keep it as easy to follow as possible. Example 1

2. Whenever possible, if doing a long, involved plot thread try to consolidate it now and then so that someone coming along later after the chaos is over does not have to try to pick their way through several hundred comments and go in and out of the accordion-pleated listing. Example 2.

This can be done by copying into another document, pasting the consolidated comments into your original entry, and deleting the original comments. Save early, save often.

3. Also when posting to a long thread, be sensitive to the people who their default e-mail as gmail, wherein the comments become nested. When you start a new set of comments, add a subject line and it will spring up as a separate lj response e-mail and thus make the responses easier to read and track and also keep your comment from being overlooked.

4. When carrying on a conversation in a public place, please be aware that you are leaving yourself open to interaction with others. If you’d like to carry on a private conversation or interaction, please take it somewhere private. Any conversation in a public place is open to observation or eavesdropping unless precautions are taken.

5. When posting in a public place, for example, Fandom Town’s Park, please check to be sure that other people are not already posting in a thread at that time/place. When you start such a thread, please clearly indicate where you are and also when. That allows other people who are going to be in the park at that time and place to use the same thread. Multiple posts for the same time and place are confusing and thus, verboten.

6. Do not use out-of-character knowledge in game or in any post. This may result in being forced to edit your post or to delete it entirely.

It is very, very important that you keep a clear line between what you know and what your character knows. Given the number of mages, psychics, aliens, mind-readers, bugs and ‘other’ around here, unless you’re taking insane pains to keep something a secret… someone, somewhere will know.

Fandom Radio or other gossip is In Character (IC) until you hit a link, when it becomes Out Of Character (OOC) knowledge. Anything you learn from any non-official game community is OOC unless you were directly involved or informed of it by someone who was… or if you’re psychic and or if you bugged the place. Any bugging and the like must be arranged in advance. Saying afterward that you did something without the admin knowing in advance will be disallowed.

Keep what is IC for your character to know firmly in mind and disregard the rest.

If you keep clear communication with the other players., if you check on AIM, write e-mails, check voice-mails… if you speak to each other and be clear what you do or don’t know before acting/posting all of this nonsense can be avoided.

Use the posted contact information. It is mandatory that you have a voicemail post for your character linked to your info page and a listed e-mail address. In a game this large, there needs to be very clear information exchange between players and I have received numerous e-mails from players wanting to be clear about how their plots will affect others, how other’s plots are affecting them, etc. These players are to be commended for their care and dedication. Please emulate them.

Talk to each other. Talk to the admin. Communicate clearly. Keep IC and OOC knowledge clearly separate.

7. Indicating in a post that another character carried out an action when they did not is called god-modding. It is also forbidden. You may not make a decision or action on the part of another character without their express permission. If you are doing anything that affects another player, their possessions or doing something that a certain player would (through magic or other means) be aware of, you are required to clear it with that player first.

You may not ever report that your character did something that affects another character in the past without their knowledge or permission. This line has been deliberately repeated in the entry below as it is a violation under both headings and equally serious in both.

It is sometimes easy to make a mistake which results in god-modding, and as long as there is clear communication and rectification of the god-modding, no action will be taken by the admin. Repeated occurrences of god-modding will result in a written warning and, in repeated cases, removal from the game.

8. Posting a past event in your journal or going back and re-writing events is forbidden. This is a game tool that in specific cases may be allowed, as in fixing an accidental error in information, eliminating use of OOC knowledge or repairing an accidental violation of the rules. In any non-admin approved situation it is forbidden to go back and re-write events to reflect more favorably on your character or their situation or to later add information that will allow your character to do something they would otherwise have not been capable of.

You may not ever report that your character did something that affects another character in the past without their knowledge or permission.

This is a ‘first offense and you’re out’ violation. There will be no negotiation on this topic. Ret-conning and tampering with another person’s character in such a fashion is against several rules all wrapped into one.

9. Playing by e-mail and AIM are both allowed, but in order for your playing to be considered as game canon, you must post the finished logs either in your own journal or in the appropriate community in a timely fashion. If it does not appear in your player journal or in the communities, it did not happen.

10. Slow-play is a term referring to the act of adding a comment here and there as you have the time. This is allowable only if a scene was interrupted by emergency and will need to be carried out as time allows after that point, if the players are in widely divergent time zones or if it is a large, multi-day event.

Scenes and logs must be posted in a timely fashion, otherwise the entire game is being held hostage to scenes which will count, effectively, as ret-conning. The game continuity needs to be preserved as best possible and it is highly unfair to require the rest of the game to act and react to a scene that is not completed until several days/weeks after the fact. See Also ‘Time and Timing’ below.

11. Please do not post NC-17 or equivalent not-work-safe logs in the communities. Ever. Regardless of subject, graphic sex and/or violence is inappropriate for the main communities. If you have such scenes or logs, please post them in a character journal and label them appropriately.

12. Always be aware that your actions will affect other characters. Everyone is required to list contact information. Talk to the other players. Gain their permission before carrying out actions which will affect them and might perhaps require intervention/action by the administration.

13. Deleting your journal for any reason is a one-strike you’re out offense.

The logs in your journal, the responsibilities of your character, your responsibility as a player… all of these are removed, forcibly, when you delete your journal. It affects the other players and the game as a whole.

We will respect your decision to leave the game in this fashion by revoking your accesses, permanently. If you feel strongly enough to delete your journal, we feel strongly enough to remove your character.

There will be no negotiation on this topic.

General Rules for the Game at Large

1. All players must be age 16 and up due to the violent and suggestive content of the game.

2. There is a maximum number of four characters for this game. Two students, a teacher and a townie. Four townies. Three students and a teacher… the cap is four.

3. You may add one student/faculty/townie per enrollment until you reach the stated maximum of four. You may not add multiple characters at a single enrollment.

Once you have been accepted and have played for a term as either faculty or student, you may choose to offer a second character at the next enrollment. Please note that preference will be given at enrollment for new players… and that the December application acceptance is not open to current students/faculty unless you picked up a character through adoption. Then you will be allowed to submit an application.

4. All players, Students, Faculty or Townies must fill out an application form.

5. All players must have the full name of their character, the name of their fandom, a valid e-mail address and an in-game voicemail/email entry for their character for in-game communication purposes. Please see Character Information Pages below.

The application form listed above can be cut and pasted into your character information page and will contain all of these things, thus making the information easier to find.

6. Townies are not allowed on school property without express permission from either [livejournal.com profile] dean_bristow or [livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s. School security will remove any offenders – by force if necessary.

7. Townies must have some visible means of support – either a business or a job.

8. Students are required to have either a part-time job or join one of the school’s clubs or other extra-curricular activities.

9. You will be asked to play the character for which you applied. You may not add further mystical powers and/or amazing gadgets after the fact without express administrator approval.

10. There are no weapons allowed on campus outside the firing range or fencing salle.

11. Your character relationships in canon will not translate to your character relationships at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh without the express permission of the other characters involved. The characters here come from all different points in their respective canons. Take nothing for granted and make no decisions for other characters based on your interpretation of shared canon.

This is a multi-fandom based role-playing game and the stated purpose is to mix the fandoms. Clumping together with characters from your own fandom defeats the purpose of the game and we would suggest that you join a single fandom RPG or start one of your own if that is what you are interested in. Please branch out a bit beyond your fandom and/or genre or be aware that you’re defeating the entire reason for this game and it is greatly unappreciated by not only fellow players but also observers. If we wanted fandom specific role-play we would not be here.

12. As a player, we would ask you to please not attempt to pass judgment on your fellow players. You can come to us, you can refer people with problems to us, you can ask us to make a ruling on an issue, you can bring your issues to us for consultation or just for an opinion.

As a player, it is not your job to step in and, if we feel your actions were unjustified, you will face disciplinary measures. Please bring your issues to us. That is what we are here for.

13. If you do not have time to play out a scene, neither does your character. You signed up to play your character – please do so. Having someone else NPC your character through a scene is cheating. If you have to go to bed while everyone else is still awake, spend your last waking minutes removing your character from the scene. If your character cannot leave, then they will remain silent and simply tag along until such time as they can. If you have to leave due to emergency, letting someone else make sure your character leaves the scene is fine… but if you did not play it out, it did not happen. Having another player play your character defeats the entire purpose of ‘role-playing’.

If you have to be away from the computer for a short period of time? The scene can wait till you get back. If you’re sick and have to drop out? Bring the scene to an end, put a pause on the plot or please drop out so that others may proceed. Do not commit to things you cannot finish and do not start things you do not intend to end and do not fail to actually participate in a class or scene and claim your character was present because someone else’s was. That is entirely unacceptable.

This is a role-playing game. If you are not actually playing the role, there is very little point to it.

Character Information Pages

Students

You are required at a bare minimum to have your character’s full name and fandom on your info page as well as contact information in the form of an e-mail address. AIM is nice also, but not mandatory and not acceptable instead of a valid e-mail.

If you want to have people interested in/interact with you, it is strongly recommended that you include further information.

Some good examples of a student journal info page can be found as follows:

Clean, simple, yet with info

Also simple, but with character history (short)

A bit more complicated

Because it’s grin-worthy

If you want to include roommates, class schedules, links to further information… please do so. It helps other people understand at a glance and makes it easier to find characters that might be compatible with yours. Also voice-mail or e-mail posts are required and requested to be included as links on your info page.

Teachers

You are required at a bare minimum to have your character’s full name and fandom as well as a valid e-mail on your info page as well as the subject you teach and also either office hours, voice-mail or both.

Links to your course requirements, sign-ups and syllabus are also required. If you’re feeling generous, links to current homework assignments would also be deeply appreciated. It is nearly impossible to find all the syllabus/course info in the glut of backwash and with students adding and dropping courses, it will save your having to constantly re-post.

This is all very easily done if you add these entries to your memories and then simply link the memory category to your info page. This makes it a great deal easier for students to find the classes they are meant to be attending.

Your info page should be more or less a webpage for your students to easily find all class information and requirements. PLEASE link vital information there.

Some good examples of a teacher’s journal info page can be found as follows:

Another very nicely presented one

And one wherein the Professor needs to be on Prozac or something.

LJ-Cuts, Pretty Links, Images and Friends Filters

For those of you less livejournal-savvy than the lifers (so to speak) here are some useful links to help you keep your entries attractive and easy to read.

How to LJ-Cut

How to Link to Another Journal/Website.

How to insert an Image into Your Entry

How to Use Friends Filters

NOTE: When linking to multiple images or large images in a main post, PLEASE lj-cut. Thank you.

Posting Requirements.

This is a High School RPG. This means that students are required to attend classes at regular intervals. It also means that teachers are required to post at regular intervals.

Real life trumps all and excuses are acceptable.

Students are required to carry a minimum of at least two classes and must also belong to at least one school club/extra-curricular activity or hold down a part-time job either with the school or in town.

If you have to be away from the computer for an extended period, your student will miss classes. Please don’t make a random post asking your teachers to just assume you’re in class. There are such things as excused absences and it is easy enough to notify your professor in a class thread or in their voice mail that you’ve been called home. The teachers are already putting in extra time and effort to keep track of the classes. Please help make their job easier by informing them directly when you need to have credit for time missed or be prepared to face detention.

Teachers have a greater responsibility, as is only natural. The disappearance of a teacher with no notice equals automatic execution. If you fail at keeping up with your self-imposed class schedule or don't respond to your students, you will be removed from the game.

We do realize that emergencies come up but if you are called away and can’t drop us a line or get someone else to do it for you, we will remove you. You can always contact us when it’s all over and make a case for being re-instated at the beginning of the next term. Teacher no-shows can cause students to take the penalty for not being able to show up for non-existent class. An instructor has more work and responsibility than a student… not less.

Classes need to be kept on schedule. Get a teaching assistant who can cover for you or arrange for another professor to watch your classes while you are away… but failure to hold your classes as scheduled will result in your removal.

Townies do not have posting requirements, but their businesses do need to be open at least once a week. If you work at a business as opposed to owning it, you need to show up for your shifts regularly. If you are fired and without visible means of support for more than a short period, you will be removed from the game. Townies are also required to be legal adults.

Time and Timing

Fandom High classes have schedules for a reason and, unless a specific class is clearly stated as 'chronofluid' you cannot be in two places at once. Period. There have been a few field trips that also muck with the flow of time, again clearly labeled.

You, being a real person, are allowed to post in most classes whenever your schedule permits over the course of that day. Your character, however, is tied to the constraints of their schedule. You cannot be in plot B and class A at the same time. You cannot be in player X's bedroom while out drinking with player Y and spying on player Z in the undergrowth.

This is why so many of the posts are clearly labeled as to time of day and place. Your character cannot, save when adjusting for specific classes and field trips, be in two places at once unless it is in their canon to do so. Please keep these limitations in mind.

Slow-timing, save in the case of off-campus field trips, off-campus events, people in opposite time-zones, extremely large school events or emergency is strongly discouraged. This is because many people are slow-timing one thing while proceeding with other things and playing over the top of themselves. As this produces plot difficulties, we would ask that you try to keep things as much in real time as possible. Yes, there will be exceptions... but do not have your character doing more than one thing at a time if you can avoid it. If you have to slow time something while doing something else... put the priority on the slow-time and finish it.

Clarification of the above: People in time zones not shared by the bulk of the school are still free to do whatever they have to in order to play. They are allowed slow-timing as it is the only reasonable way they can sometimes get things done.

There has been some resentment expressed over people with multiple characters who are slow-timing one thing while keeping up with real time with their other characters. Try to keep an even balance people, and save slow-time for when you really, really need it.

Addendum: School policy is no ret-conning or backdating. If it didn't happen on time... it didn't happen. Period. Please be aware of this, as offenders may very well be shot.

Combat and Magic

A few things to remember:

1. Never, ever take action against another character without the player’s permission. Ever. If it is In Character for your character to take a swing at them, that’s fine. Do so. The other player gets to decide whether or not it connects, however.

2. Do not god-mode. This means that if you cast a spell or take a swing, you do not control the outcome. That is up to the player you are attacking.

3. Discuss what you plan to do in a combat scene with the other player first. Always. This will make for an easier flow and a better give and take.

4. You cannot somehow detect that someone is under the influence of a spell or has cast a spell at you while attempting stealth unless you are canonically aware of active magical forces in your vicinity.

For instance, I do not want to see any Harry Potter character suddenly declare that so and so is under a spell without some wand waving, an explanation of the suspicion that led to this action, etc. Keep it in character and as close to canon for your character’s magic system as possible. Do NOT use out-of-character knowledge to randomly test for spells after someone has cast one. The admins will point and laugh at you and remove you from interaction with that plot line.

If someone has cast a spell and you want to interfere with it, check with the player first. The admins will be keeping an eye on spells cast, the motivations and the hows, wheres and whys. Do not arbitrarily announce you’ve removed or countered any magic without going through the character who set it in place or, if you don’t know who that is, the admins first. Some of these things are plot sensitive and if you don’t know what’s going on you may not be able to affect it and then you’d just look silly. Vice-versa, do not assume that no one else in the game is powerful enough/alert enough to sense your magic and act against it. Let’s try to avoid confusion at all costs.

Alternately, there are a large number of magic-sensitive characters in play. Do not cast large magics and simply assume that no-one noticed. This is also god-modding.

5. No player deaths without said players consent. Maulings, maimings and severe beatings are all fine, however. The affected player can always press charges with the police or with Rover or Dean Bristow.

6. Keep it realistic, please. If someone decides to hit you with a lightning bolt and you’re a non-magical character in the middle of a field? You do not walk away from that. At the very least, you’re going to be crispy, singed and have a hell of a ringing in your ears for a few days. Feel free to appeal to the admins for rulings at any stage.

7. If you swing on another character, no matter the non-physical provocation, you are automatically the one in trouble. Period. Full stop. I don’t care if you’re the Son of God and you tried to bitchslap Lucifer. You swung first. You’re the one in trouble. You may press charges against the other person once before Dean Bristow, but if you made the first move, you are in trouble.

8. In the case of school elections, etc, all bets are off. You may lie, cheat, steal and rig things… but again, no one may discover/avert such plots without in character effort. Using out-of-character knowledge to mysteriously catch someone at something is a total no-no. Always communicate with the players in question first and/or an admin

9. Be you mage, psychic, witch or priest, no major magics may be performed on the island or within the bounds of the school without administrative permission.

10. When at school, appeal to [livejournal.com profile] dean_bristow or [livejournal.com profile] jerusalem_s. When in town, appeal to [livejournal.com profile] _red_xiii_.

11. The common areas/public areas/classrooms/hallways, etc of the school are bugged using the latest nanotechnology and are policed by a sentient cloud of nanobots. The dorm rooms themselves, however, are free of such devices. Unless you are of Spider Jerusalem’s level of technology or above, they are not detectable, much less amenable to disabling. The Dean and Rover have access to all feeds and all recordings as does Spider. This information is regarded as private and utilized only as deemed necessary by the Dean and Rover. Outside of his own department/quarters, Spider is bound only to use/disclose the information he is privy to with the Dean and/or Rover.

When in doubt about any of the above? Start by communicating with the other player(s) and if there is any uncertainty, someone should contact an administrator.

Crime and Punishment

1. Fandom Town has a police department.

Expect violations of the law to be met with appropriate consequences.

2. Fandom High has Rover.

Rover will take you to the appropriate authorities for punishment, which generally will lead to something inventively horrible courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] dean_bristow or, more generally, detention.

Detention

The new detention rules (also here) are as follows:

From the Student Handbook - Things You Might Run Into: Detention

So, you have Detention. I hope you feel sorry for what you've done, but don't worry. You will. Detention at Fandom High is a rigorous, character-building exercise that allows the participants to really reflect on their misdeeds so that they can return to the student populace as good-hearted, contributing members.

Detention takes place all-day Saturday. If you're assigned Detention by any teacher, please report on the Saturday of that same week to the Danger Shop. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Don't even bother to finish up your conversations from the previous evening. On Saturday, you will be in Detention. Not in your dorm room. Not at a party. Not walking our beautiful, litter-free campuses. You are unable to post, comment, or take any actions outside of Detention. Conversely, your friends will be unable to visit you and there will be no outside services aside from a sack lunch delivery at midday.

We do understand that there may be circumstances under which you will be unable to serve your Detention the week it is given. We understand, but we do not care. If you do not arrive for your Detention that week, you will be assigned Detention for two consecutive Saturdays afterwards, unless you are excused by Dean Bristow, in which case you will only serve the one Detention. Furthermore, one student may not assume the detentions of other students. The faculty will determine where blame falls and who should endure the consequences.

Detention will begin promptly when the teacher or faculty member assigned to oversee it that weekend makes the Detention post in the FandomHigh comm. For the duration of Detention, you will have to follow all of the faculty member's instructions, or be assigned another weekend of punishment. It will end when that teacher or faculty member dismisses you. You will be locked inside the Danger Shop for the duration of Detention. There is no escape, and with any luck, no mercy. So be good!

The Danger Shop itself is a hard-light projector which is capable of forming nearly any environment one can imagine. Please take time to familiarize yourself with its capabilities by reading this article from our friends at Wikipedia. Please be aware that while the Danger Shop is programmed to prevent fatal injuries, we did get it second-hand and without a warranty.

The interior of the Danger Shop is being surveilled on the school's standard close-circuit feed, which means that Dean Bristow, Spider Jerusalem, or another highly-placed member of our friendly faculty may be viewing the proceedings at any moment, but general public viewing will be impossible. This is your punishment, it is not your humiliation. We find that the students can do that on their own just fine.

For the faculty member in charge:

Feel free to program the Danger Shop as you see fit. Whether you hold a disciplinary class with folding chairs or you wish to get a bit more esoteric in your methods, that choice is up to you. However, we ask that the students leave the Danger Shop with more than half of their sanity left. It's only fair.

Big Damn Plots

Any plot that affects characters outside of a small circle, say seven characters, must obtain consent from and be run by the administration.

Physical Constraints

The physical reality of the school is based on Mont St. Michel, a very, very small island. How small, you ask? We are approaching maximum capacity with a population of approximately two hundred.

Due to size constraints, there are a few things to be aware of.

1. We are all living right on top of each other. Literally. Be aware of the close proximity of everyone else before deciding to do something really loud. There is little to no space that isn’t in use for something. Abandoned warehouses, empty lots, deserted roads… these things are in extremely short supply. We live on a tiny, heavily built-up and fortified island and every square inch of space has a function (yes, even the park).

2. The roads are tiny. Really tiny. Scooters and foot traffic and motorcycles, tiny. Yes, the roads will take cars. Small cars. We are on a very small island with very tight roads, the kind you'd drive a Vespa down while saying "Ciao!" Parking is likely limited, if it exists at all. Vehicle travel would most likely be conducted on the aforementioned Vespa or a bicycle. There's not a lot of island to drive on, in point of fact. The school is already at its limit of cars and there is no public parking, parking places or parking lots. What need is there when you can walk the length of the island before breakfast if you’re quick about it?

The sole exception to the above is the parking lot along the edge of the causeway just outside the city limits.

Travel Off of the Island for Students

In order for a student to leave the island without facing detention or expulsion, such trips are limited at this time to holiday travel or by parental/guardian request. The Dean of Students and Spider Jerusalem are working closely with a local mage to prevent apparating and other means of mystical transportation as well as strengthening the specific wards on the dormitories.

Always Remember

Your administrators are here to serve the game at large. We are bound to impartiality and to do our best to keep the game running smoothly and address player issues to further that goal.

Dean Bristow, Spider Jerusalem and Red XIII are doing their best to keep everything in order as best possible. We are here to answer your questions, clarify the obscure, enforce the rules, mediate and generally attempt to make your game experience here as much fun as possible.

In order to stay as impartial as possible, we have several rules.

1. We cannot intervene in a situation that only one side is aware of.

If you are having difficulties with the actions/behavior of another player/character, you need to inform them of this. If the problem is not serious enough (again barring harassment, threats or stalking) for you to inform the other player of your discomfort, it is not serious enough for us to take action.

You would be amazed how many players would be shocked to realize that they’re upsetting the people around them and who would be willing and even eager to change if approached politely and informed of the problem. If, however, you approach them and their behavior does not change, then we would be perfectly happy to intervene.

2. If an admin runs into an issue as a player, it will immediately be referred to mediation under a different administrator. We do not want you to think that any sort of personal feeling might influence our actions and we do not want you to confuse character motivation with player motivation or either of them with the carrying out of administrator duties.

Additionally, if any administrator doubts their ability to be impartial, the issue will be passed to a different administrator.

3. The administration is here to serve you. Please allow them to do their job.

Any issue, large or small, can be addressed to the administrators. If they don’t know the answer, they will do their best to find out what it is or, as a last resort, consult and produce an official ruling on the issue if one does not exist.

We are here to be impartial. We are here to be fair. We are here to keep track of the trivia and the minutiae. We are here to make sure the game runs smoothly, not to take sides or make moral judgments. We are here to do the worrying and the agonizing so that you can concentrate on playing and having fun.

It is our job to keep track of the rules and the judgments. It is our job to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Please come to us for these things. Arbitration, the settling of disputes, the answering of questions… these are all a part of our job. These are the bailiwick of the administrator.

We can’t make everyone happy all of the time, although we try our best. Do not doubt, at any time, that we are not hearing what you have to say or even that we do not agree with it. Circumstances may require us to deny you or to turn you down… but we do listen and we do care how you feel and what you have to say.

Never, ever hesitate to bring an issue to us. We will always do our best for you.

Thank you for your observance.

Quick issue: I hate to ask, but what about when the writer is gone? Over a weekend and a couple days extra, say? Can the character go out of town too, just for simplicity's sake? Otherwise it can get to be more trouble than it's worth.

Yes - any time I has a player have been away, I've sent my kids back home.

May I ask why? Bel has left the island several times in the past and has never been told, in game or out, that it was against the rules. Why is there a need for this rule now?

Kind of off-topic, but... since it's a general admin post...

I've left a note for [livejournal.com profile] miss_thomasina to request posting access to [livejournal.com profile] fh_adoptions so that I can put Mustang up, but I haven't been granted it nor heard from her. I stopped participating in the game a few days ago and have given notice here and in my own journal, but I can't post to the adoption thing if I can't, well, post. Anyway, I don't wanted to be permanently booted from ever playing again because it was perceived that I dropped without warning by not posting to the adoptions.

Turns out it was done, I just hadn't been able to see it from my LJ client. Thanks for replying.

How long can a character be idle before being considered "abandoned"? Is there even such a limitation?

Thanks so much for being so clear about so many issues. All of you deserve cupcakes~ ^-^

So for those of us who are currently playing, we can't add a character at the *next* enrollment, but we can at the one after that?

4. When carrying on a conversation in a public place, please be aware that you are leaving yourself open to interaction with others. If you’d like to carry on a private conversation or interaction, please take it somewhere private. Any conversation in a public place is open to observation or eavesdropping unless precautions are taken.

So, this is probably gonna piss some people off.. Can we get firm ruling that people posting in public comms can't do locked threads or NFB's? If public stuff is open to observation/eavesdropping, there shouldn't be any way, unless you post some super seekrit hoodoovoodoo supahpowah, of making it NFB. I'd also like to see a firm ruling on not making threads in public comm posts NFB either. Cuz basically it's a gag-order on other characters witnessing the scene. We can't report it because the recappers can't broadcast it, which isn't really fair.

*offers a round of pirate-y applause*

Any chance of this getting reposted where people who aren't as OCD about reading all the OOC responses as me everyone else can see it big and bold?

Gah. I hate to be a bother. but I've got another question.

The clinic.

Due to the private and personal nature of some cases...it really shouldn't be bugged. Or, if it is for security purposes, it should only be bugged by school admin and Rover.

The main lobby could be open to broadcast. Maybe the staff office. But exam rooms? Should be not-bugged by default, because if they were bugged, well. That's flat out invasion of privacy. Fandom High should respect Dr/Patient confidentiality. With the possible exception of Admin, as noted above.

I'm not saying clinic threads should carry NFB warnings. Only exam room threads, clearly marked as taking place in a secure exam room. And Jonathan's counselling sessions, of course.

The clinic is a public place, and there is always the possibility ov ebeing over heard/interrupted. But, you know what I'm saying? Closed-door exam room threads that take place out of the open public area, unless someone deliberately crashes, should not be publicly acknowledged.

In the case of patients, such as Jack and Parker and Grissom who have all actively stayed over night (or many nights) in clinic, those are not considered clsoed door threads. Scenes like that would certainly be open to broadcast.

Please, let me know if I'm out of line. I just want to make sure we're all on the same page...

[identity profile] likeguidelines.livejournal.com 2005-11-09 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
As a policy, we only mention who's seen going in and out of the clinic and never their medical condition, unless it's obvious from another thread (getting beat up, bit by a gremlin, screaming in pain in the common room, etc.). We talk about visits to patients, occasional chitchat between the staffers, but never anyone's medical condition.

Same thing for what happens in the law office between attorneys and clients and what's being said in Jonathan's and Brenda's therapy sessions. We're here to report, not to spread priveleged information.

*Nods* I respect what you do. The [livejournal.com profile] fandomradio is great. You deserve a pat on the back.

I just wnat to make sure we can state this officially. Not just for the radio, but for the game as a whole.

I've never objected to anytihng I've seen on the radio (with one wee little exceptoin, reproting that Connor and Murphy danced together at the Halloween Ball, since Connor did not know it was Murphy, no one should ahve realised it wa Murphy behind the mask, but we let it go since it really wouldn't affect a lot of people)

In fact, I *love* when House and Wilson get mentioned in the radio report. *g* And, speaking of that, even when they're in te lab, that could be broadcast because the lab isn't a private exam room. heh.

So, yeah. Loving the radio. Just trying to officially protect the patients in the clinic *g*

*Nods* I appreciate that.

Thanks!

Slow Time

[identity profile] gotcanewillpoke.livejournal.com 2005-11-08 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Just for clarification...

Slowtime.

Often a necessity. No matter how try, I can't always wrap a thread by 11pm EST, which is my self imposed cut off. Why? Because I work. Full time. With children. I go to work on too little sleep, I'm not just grumpy, I'm irritable. Cranky. Onery. And yelling at the kids, termination is a distinct possibility. Can't risk that.

So. Basically. If a scene involves two people, and is a personal scene. Storyline, not plot. Is slowtime acceptable if all parties agree to it?

Example: Connor and Murphy are in a scene right now. In Connor's journal. It's only the two of them, and the outcome of the scene,w hile it will profoundly affect the boys will not directly affect anyone else.

It's 11 now. The scene is nowhere near finished. I HAVE to sleep. I'm asking slowtime. Murphy!mun agrees. We won't be able to get back to the scene until Weds. We're both okay with that.

I'd push myself, if I wouldn't be complete mush tomorrow at work.

*Nods* That's pretty much what I thought.

Thank you for clarifying.

And *hugs* just because you do an amazing Mod-job.
