New townie and sunday activity

I'd like everyone to welcome our newest townie Orlin ([livejournal.com profile] ascended_being) from Stargate SG-1.

While I have your attention, I'd like to ask for your cooperation on something to make the townie community more active. As you know, we've had a mass post every Sunday. As this was a nice activity, it was however a limited event as not all characters are likely to go to church. That's why I'm proposing a weekly Sunday brunch to be held in town. For this to work best, it would probably be a good idea to have the food businesses in town organise this event each week in turn (You can do with it what you want, serve whatever food you like, organise themes, etc. You can go wild here). So if you have a diner or a restaurant and you're willing to organise this Sunday brunch every few weeks, please drop a comment or shoot me an email at usurpertex @ fandomhigh.net.

What are the rules on going to the church (or even referencing having gone) if there isn't a Mass post? Tommy's known to show up at odd hours of the day or night to light a candle and pray. I was wondering if it was okay for me to say he does that.

[identity profile] cameronmitchell.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm perfectly fine with referencing to it. It was established in game that there was a church so I imagine that Mass will continue to happen.

And we're okay for odd hour candle lighting?

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh sure. Get in the way of the firefighter who's just trying to find a little work. ;)

[identity profile] heterodine.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, i think the town can form a bucket brigade down to the water. we are on an island after all. but a fire plot, after a snow plot would just be funny :)

Tommy (and I) have some ideas about all that, but I'll bug you about it in email next week when all of us aren't as busy. =)

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Since this relates more to the point of this post, lemme add that if anybody was interested in impromptu sports games after the brunches, be it anything from snowball fights to softball, Tommy would help out with organizing those.

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
NP. Possibly something more for warmer weather. Or - oo! There's also the bowling alley. =)

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
CJ goes every Sunday, but I'm running out of ideas for actual Mass posts. If Tommy doesn't mind a handwavily done service, I'll be happy to keep putting up the Sunday post until such a time as someone else takes over. Right now, what with people coming and going, I know that CJ, Deb, and Tommy might be the only people in town who would do it. Rogue, Fred, the Macmanus brothers, Tony Soprano and others who were curious used to come, but have since moved on.

I've got the Catholicism WOW icon, I may as well use it.

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Tommy is an intermittent Mass goer, and more frequent for hanging out in a pew or by the votive candles.

If there's Mass posts he'll prob. show up. Otherwise I didn't want to step on any toes by doing a post of him hanging out in the church if the church doors were supposed to be locked except for Sundays.

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Without a priest in town, I'd say the church is totally moddable. Plus, what with vampires and such, you never know when you might need some holy water or consecrated ground, right?

Since it kinda fell to me...CJ...me...I'm gonna say anyone can mod it, just don't abuse it. Candles, confession, whatever, go for it. Heck, Tommy might wanna even start up an AA group!

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
How sad is it that my first thought is: "I have just the icon for this! Woo!"?

And cool, thanks.

I should do a post on OOC to ask if there'd be interest in an AA group. Tommy's really, really bad at it, but right now he's still in it. I was going to say he found a meeting on the mainland, but if enough people wanted one here we could try it.

Dude, have you seen how many people get wasted on this island? It's not the worst idea ever.

[identity profile] ladder62.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Where's Leo when we need him? ;)

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*Misses Leo liek whoa.*

*Doesn't miss Hoynes...Ack! Don't make me think of him!*

is the Catholic church the only game in town? Agatha is most likely Lutheran or some such (or so the girl Genius fan-list had decided a while back) but if there is only one church, she will probably show up. and my poor jewish self will have to figure this christianity thing out for her i suppose...

[identity profile] prof-cregg.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The Cathoic church is the only established church in town, but one would assume there are others...at least one of some Protestant faith. I've got to admit, trying to come up with Mass and talking to the actual Catholics in th game I've learned more than I ever did when I got dragged to church with my grandmother when I was young.

[identity profile] heterodine.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
i jsut need an excuse to learn, really :) **loves learnign of religins and things**

[identity profile] heterodine.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
oh that would be wonderful.

[identity profile] wonkacandyshopp.livejournal.com 2006-02-01 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Wonka could host one... although it'd be kinda chocolate based. To put it mildly.

anyone who organizes brunch, if you want a bunch of small robotic thingies to do waitstaff duty, or the CleanoMatic2000 to cleanup, talk to me or talk to Agatha.

I'm sure we could work something out at Luke's. He'd need to be cajoled into it by Lorelai, but it would certainly work. And one of us should be able to be around to put up a post... though anyone is always welcome to start a Luke's post.
