OOC Question

Last term, I basically threw together a town field trip with Sara's students to the body farm.

Are there any procedures I need to do this time around? It isn't a plot per se and no extra characters are needed or anything like that. It's just a way for each class of biology, chemistry, and forensics to see practical application of the concepts they are learning.

I think it's safe to say "go ahead and do it". :-D

If you want to use the fh_trips comm, just let me know when you need access to it and I'll set you up. :D

Hmmmm, I am not aware of a body farm being established in town. There is just no room for it, and there definitely is no reason to have one on the island.

A trip to a mainland body farm in fh_trips is probably the way to go.

The body farm was never implimented in the map which is what I'm basing myself on right now. I'm aware that there was a trip to the body farm months ago, but it's sadly enough one of those things that with the changes in the game happening doesn't make sense anymore. There simply is no room or reason to impliment. So yes, it's probably best to take the trip to the mainland.

Okay, this is where you lose me. The map is an awesome, valiant effort to give people a general understanding of where things are, and suchforth, but retconning an entire event and location for the sake of an amendable map that exists more as an OOC tool?

I understand the game has shifted a lot, and I wouldn't invent a new place on the island now without like, submitting a 5000 page application, map on AutoCad, and giving over a firstborn, but Grissom and Sara are two of seriously five or six teachers than have managed to stick around so yeah, we have established stuff that exists, and a general handwave of it being in a semi-open section, or even a tiny expansion into the water, doesn't seem like a big deal. And it's really frustrating to want to have a little class field trip in game and have to consult with 12 people. It's fun for us and self-contained, and these are the moments when the overregulation of the game drive me a wee bit bonkers.

And I didn't run this by Sara's mun, this is just me sounding off like I do.

The map itself was actually extensively redone to fit the established concept of the island as being a very tiny town. So I don't think she literally means that "if it's not on the map, it's not there" but that the map is a visual record of the geographical decisions made by the admins.

(My interpretation only.)

My apologies for replying so late, timezones still suck.

I understand that you're not happy with having to retcon the field trip, but let me try to explain to you why I don't think this is a matter of overregulation. At the beginning of the game, everyone was pretty much able to invent whatever place they wanted on the island. The problem is, it's an island and space is limited. The map is actually something that I see as a lot more than a visual aide and there will be steps taken in the next few days to make it so.

It's alright to handwave one business, two business, but with a game this size you very soon end up with way too many businesses on a tiny island. This is the reason why I'm currently working on an NPC list as well. If the body farm was something that would have a daily use, I'd probably impliment it on that list. However, it's something being used once every few months and I prefer to use the space for something that town really needs.

This is in no way in disrespect to Sidle and you. You are both great teachers and I am glad you have stuck around. Heck, I was in Grissom's class and I loved it. It's just that some rules are really necessary and directing the size of the island is one of those things.

I hope you can both understand this. The field trip to the body farm is perfectly alright and I'm glad that you're willing to do this. I just think it's a better idea to say that the body farm on the island disappeared due to space issues and that the trip will be taking place on the mainland. Or perhaps it was removed after the zombie attack to prevent another huge invasion like the one we had. The zombies had to come from somewhere so why not the body farm?

Tomorrow, Wednesday or Wednesday, March 15? Because next week is spring break.
